TRANSMIT (XMIT). It's been a while, but IIRC the basics are:
XMIT DIS3081.OPERATOR MSG
will prompt the issuer.
XMIT DIS3081.OPERATOR MSGFILE(ddname)

How do I use TSO to send the message to z/VM operator at node DIS3081?

So... where does the command issuer run... e.g. as a TSO user, as a batch
job, other?
If they have the proper privilege on z/OS, they could issue the JES2
command:
$Nn#;nodename userid 'message text here'
Where the '#' is the JES2 node number of your target z/VM system.

This receives the message in z/VM.
I need to send it from z/OS first. This is where I am stumped. I have
a few replies which I've not tested (yet).

Jim,
>From TSO you can use: XMIT (or TRANSMIT) node.userid
That places you into EDIT on a file permitting multiple lines to be
entered, after which you press PF3 to send the file.
The message appears as a reader file on the node.userid on the target VM
system.

I fully agree with the retirement of these programs. If DATE() doesn't fill the
bill, something else may.

Please use TSO XMIT command - provided RACF doesn't prevent you VMRDR.

Don't know if it still works or what authorizations might be required, but
at one time you could use the operator send command: se 'your
message',njenode.userid
or something to that effect.

I do recall this function and even used it (trying to find archives) back in
the pre-Y2K conversions. The internal DATE() function in REXX seems to
provide most of what is needed, though. You can translate date formats ..

I am able to send messages to a z/OS TSO userid using the RSCS command
MSG from z/VM.
How would the TSO userid send a message to me on the z/VM node?
z/VM node is DIS3081. Z/OS node is MVSSYS.
Would the z/OS TSO userid be able to issue commands to the z/VM system
or would PROP be involved?
TIA
We have a legacy (pejorative intended) program named REXXDATE MODULE for which
