If you're using MS Word 2010 you can do an alt t for tools, followed by O for options. Arrow down to, save and then tab to the browse button and press enter. Select your default folder for saving documents to here. This will change it for Word but I'm not positive it will change it for

Go to your desktop then put the focus on the icon you want to delete. Click on the application key on your keyboard then a menu comes up. Arrow down to delete. You should then get a box up that asked you if you want to delete the short cut. Click on enter and your icon will be deleted.
