I put a tune on Angie's Golf because it also fixed a problem we had with a
sensor in the turbo. The results were absolutely worth it. Her car wasn't slow
before but it's a rocketship now.

140-150hp depending on which one exactly but about 230lbft of torque. It's the
torque that makes it fun.
A stage 2 tune on that engine takes you to 160hp and nearly 300lbft with no
hardware modifications. Stage 3 needs a new turbo but is 190/325...

Number two of the top three cutest girls attending East Peoria Community High
School had a Levi’s Edition Gremlin. Her dad traded it, in 1978, for a Gremlin
GT. By comparison, that GT was badass. I drove it once, taking her home through
blizzard condition (she was afraid to drive in the snow).
Nice car!
AND red haired girlfriends are good stuff. I have been married to my red

I know! The gremlin is the anti-mercedes. Everything that makes Mercedes

I was quoted $170 for my focus, with tow-away. The yard pays $160/ton. Is that
about average?
It has a good running engine and transmission, all four wheels are good and I
have two extras, tires are good, how likely is it that I could sell it as a
parts car for more? I guess the answer is list
Steering wheel should be a lot easier to fix than the paint.

My Mom's Microbus, 18(?) window had the 1200cc 36HP engine. She hated it
because it was too slow. She said it was too slow to drive on the highway.
We later found out that the speedo was reading 10MPH too low. When she
thought it would only go 60, it was actually 70. She never did believe that

Not bad for $10k.

The worst Vanagon was the diesel (1.6 liter, 48hp non-turbo same as the rabbit
engine). They were dangerously slow accelerating and people often blew up the
engines trying to drive them faster than they should.
I would guess a 2.0l TDI would do quite a bit better, I think they make about
never having had one of those, how good would they
be pushing something as heavy as the Vanagon?

"Manual" transmission -- well I guess you select "P", "R", or "D" manually...
Rusty, like all of them around here that are this old, and needs suspension so
the price is too much. But I guess factor in about $500-$600 for the new tires.
Fuzzy pics but Interior looks nice.

Yes that could be another good option. I believe that they bolt up to the
transmission without an adapter -- at least some of the inline-4 VW engines
did. They kept the transmission bolt pattern the same over many decades.

There was a kit to put a Ford Focus (Zetec) engine in a Vanagon. It seemed well
done, but not cheap -- $7,900 and that doesn't include the engine. I'd probably

I was thinking it'd be way more drivable, the original engines were
