Mike, Levi,
(fuel filter center bolt and housing)
I talked to the local mechanic who has a stash of old MBZ Diesel
parts in the form of about a dozen junk diesel cars in his back lot.
He said he had some parts but encouraged me to try and get that
stripped allen bolt out and switch the parts I had.
OK, yeah, I would definitely NOT use teflon on the bolt that threads into
the fuel filter. That's just asking for something to get lodged somewhere
it shouldn't and with the O-ring at the top, I don't think it would have any
effect anyway. But you seem to already understand that. (:

Mike, Levi, Dave, Marshall, Tom, Rich, Jeff, and Harry-
Thank you all for your very good replies to my question about
teflon tape. The fuel leak is at the fuel filter center bolt (hollow
bolt) that holds the large fuel filter on. The little "O" ring on
this bolt is causing the problem.

Probably not, but teflon tape will also probably not fix the leak.
Leaking fittings require replacement, they are never tapered pipe
fittings.

There is NO location in the fuel system of a Mercedes diesel where
Teflon tape is appropriate! If you have a leak you need to replace the
parts that are permitt
I am pretty sure you don't want to use Teflon tape if it is near a heat
source.
