That's the idea. I find when I haven't welded for awhile I need more light.
Eventually if I'm welding a lot with too much light my eyes will get tired so I
dial it darker.
Earlier this year I cut down the bucket on my garden tractor loader, it was 42"
wide, I want it 36" so it'll fit in the
Hell, clear polycarbonate safety glasses block 99% of UV light.

Yes, it is adjustable.

Yes, it is adjustable.
If I understand correctly, the lens block UV regardless of setting, which is
the dangerous light. So it's safe to dial the darkness back until you can see
adequately?

I have a cheapo horror fright one too and it’s fine for MIG but for TIG you
really need to see the weld pool and the tungsten electrode distance from the
puddle. You need a good helmet. Kari got me the optrel panoramaxx (which is the
Mercedes of welding helmets) last Christmas.

I've had 2 auto darkening helmets, I don't know where the first one came from,
it was a gift from my in-laws. The replacement is from HF. Both are pretty good
with adjustable darkness levels using a dial on the side. MUCH better than a
conventional helmet anyway.

The ability to lay down a good weld [insert pretty weld] is a factor of
coordination of hand/eye control you see the color change of the weld
puddle and make minute hand movements to control the size and direction of
the liquid metal, the filler rod material, arc distance [which controls

I use a small bright light to illuminate the work area. If you are TIG welding
you really need to see what you’re doing. Either illuminate the area and/ or
get a high quality helmet. Optrel is what I use.

I made a 50A extension cord, with the same triplex outlet set on it as is
mounted
inside my garage doorways. I can put anything out there now. Welder, camper,

That would be why I bought an induction heater for bolts and nuts, instead of
buying an oxy acetalyne set. Cherry red is cherry

Bright sun helps.

I would never, ever do that. Not of the construction, or other contents, is at
all flammable.
As mine is.

Inexpensive and harbor freight are key words here.

Most are somewhat adjustable. Look for a knob or switch that will change
the degree of darkness.

I have an inexpensive auto-darkening welding helmet. Pretty sure I got it at
Harbor Freight.
It works OK but when it darkens all I can see is the point of light that is the
arc. I can't see a "puddle" or really even what I am welding.
Is this normal or would a better helmet not get so dark but
