I've had several transmission failures and none ever made a harsh warning
noise.

Thanks for the ideas. Good info Don. I would have expected some noise
if a tc dies. I had intended to convert this car to 4sp, but given its
intended use, I've decided to leave it as auto. Now I just have to
decide what/how much to do to the used spare I have before it goes in.
B2
Mine did not make noise when it died in the 450SLC.

Bushings good. you can feel the detents in the trans. Parked in park.
neutral
I suspect there was a mechanical break between the shifter and transmission.

I had the pump drive ears shear off of the torque converter on the 190D.
That'll stop you cold.
My fix was a manual transmission.

Yeah, something that major I would suspect a bad torque converter or failed
pump. Call Sun Valley and ask Mike what he thinks it is.

Bushings good. you can feel the detents in the trans. Parked in park.
neutral in neutral. No go inforward or back. Was running 55, pulled up
to a stop sign, no more go. no sound, no noise.
Adjustment for what? there's quite a few adjustments. modulator,
vacuum input, linkage, neutral
Isn't there an adjustment bolt on those? I remember something about an
adjustment bolt.
Change fluid and filter.
Trans-medic, rebuild-in-a-can?
Check the shifter bushings.
Does park lock the transmission? If not, the output shaft may have stripped
off teeth.

when the auto trans just quits, won't go forward, won't go back, what is
the usual cause. Seems to me the B2 failure lets you go back but not
forward.
1981 240D. After 20 years with a failing trans, it died, dead, no
warning. 500 miles from the used one I got from Kleb.
