i believe that the biggest bottleneck is the hard drive, I think there is a

most people using the mac mini probably aren't looking for a proformance

i was under the impression that the only way to install the 3.7 release
of OpenBSD/mips was via tftp / netboot. this is the only installation
method mentioned in the install doc. it worked fine for me.

I need to add another ethernet card to the box, but have run out of
PCI slots. Currently there is an Intel dual port (fxp) in there and
I'm considering one of the above as a replacement. Could anyone with
experience with one of these cards comment as to the pro's/con's of
either card?

I recently acquired a Broadcom 5805 for use with my OpenBSD box.
Googling for the past hour has not quite yielded the info I need,
though I may not be hitting the right keywords, so I'm turning here
for a bit of help. Will I need to recompile any of my applications

Thanks Theo!! Ever time I learn something like this it really makes me
appreciate OpenBSD even more.
Maxim, Dave - I found mine on eBay. There is a chap that must have a
truck load of them as he posts two a week. Opening bid is $24.99US
with a buy it now price of $49.99US. Not too bad for an entry
How about a Dell PowerConnect 2216? They are currently $49US for an
unmanaged 16port that can be rackmounted with the included hardware. Quiet
and fairly reliable.
hi,
I'm going to extend my i386 machine with a USB 2.0 (PCI) host adapter.
Are there any recommended cards or cards that I should not buy or that
do not work?
thanks,

support was included on 2005/04/05. so yes, use a snapshot if you need
it right now, or wait for the 3.8 release.

'netstat -in' will give you a better indication of duplex mismatches (since
it shows errors and collisions.)

wouldn't it be easier to set up a table with IPs to block and put the IP of
this computer in that table at night/remove it again in the morning?
should be easy with pfctl.

1. copy your files somewhere safe
2. umount /var
3. edit the partition with: disklabel(8)
4. create a new filesystem within the modified partition: newfs(8)
5. mount /var
6. copy your files back
read the manual pages, additional examples of disklabel usage are
available in the FAQ!

y you have wd(4) (/dev/rwd0a in your case) instead of sd(4). this is
just a guess, you did not provide enough info.

Accidentally? Are you positive your installation is finished?

point people to
the OpenBSD FAQ (especially faq4.html), and to the afterboot(8) manual page?
When you copy over pf.conf, do you set its owner/permissions correctly?
Anyway, /etc/security will let you know if you didn't. :)

d it's also
useless since your next line is saying pkg_add.
Instead of releasing "this worked for me" type of documents, maybe your
efforts would be better spent writing a clean document that does not
suffer factual inaccuracies, does not deviate too much from the actual
topic, adds explanations where appropriate, etc. Yes, it's not an easy
task. :)

try pdftotext, it's in the xpdf package.

some thoughts:
1. make backups: dump(8) and restore(8) are your friends.
2. wouldn't it be much easier to use the installer to install OpenBSD onto
the new hard disk, boot from the new disk when finished, mount your old
disk and copy over files as desired? (you could consider unplugging
the old disk if it is going bad, and plug it back in when you're
ready to start copying.)
