I observed the Brown Booby yesterday at the White Lake WMA in Hardwick Twsp.,
NJ on Rte. 521/Stillwater Rd.. It was far away on the dock but did fly a
little towards us into a tree to roost for the night. I was there from about
7pm to 8pm and it was still there when I left. A scope is needed.
Still having my Ruby-throated Hummer pair at the feeders though the male left
for several weeks but is back regularly now. He seems to come mostly in the
late evening while she comes anytime during the day light hours. And for the
first time I just had both of them interacting together at the

The baltimore orioles finally showed up today at my birdbath. For some reason

The New Rochelle peregrines were noisy again today. They were calling to each
other and at one point flew off slowly next to each other towards the coast.
One also went after a pigeon in a half hardy attack but totally missed it and
then slowly flew low over me back the the plaza. Quite cool.
Went to see the raven nest on the bank facade on Main St. in New Rochelle today
and was pleased to see the chicks moving around. No adults were present. They
look to be near fledging. Also had the house wren back in the yard today,
always a treat.

I've noticed the peregrine pair on the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle have been
hanging out on one corner of the building where there is a large flat area and
saw one of them walk back from the edge towards the rear of the ledge. Could
be a nest area. We shall see.

Had a Common Raven in the parking lot of of the new Hmart across from the TD
bank in Hartsdale on Central Ave. It got chased off by the ubiquitous Fish
Crows and flew north with them in hot pursuit. It was most likely one of the

My friend Mark Schwartz reported he saw a flock of 4 Monk Parakeets in
Freeport, NY yesterday afternoon. I went to Shawangunk Grasslands NWR with my
friend Scott Perry yesterday late afternoon and saw some good stuff but no
owls. We had 3+ Rough-legged Hawks, 3 Red-tailed Hawks, 8+ Northern Ha
The peregrine pair on the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle were at it again. One of
them was chirping as it flew up and down in front of the other as it sat on the
ledge. The third falcon came back and joined in for awhile. One of them,
probably the female, made a stoop from the building over the

After going to Pelham Bay Park today and viewing the Trump Plaza and Co-op City
from there I'm tending to agree with Richard that the Bronx ravens and the New
Rochelle ravens may be one in the same. I didn't realize how close the two

I was at the Pt. Lookout beach parking lot looking for the Grace's Warbler in
the Japanese Pines to the left of the boulder field from about 1:30 to 4:30pm
without any luck. As far as I know nobody saw it during the time I was there.
Did see an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull in the lot though.

For you NYers who don't get the Connecticut list there is a gorgeous male
Painted Bunting being seen at the Cove Island Park in Stamford. The park is
adjacent to where a White-winged Dove is also being seen at a private

The juvenile White Ibis in Park Ridge, just south of the NY border in Bergen
Co., was still at the Silver Lake off of Mill Rd. as of about 9am this
morning. It was on the north end where the river comes out by the sand bar and
was feeding along the far shore and on the land. Quite nice views.
Just got this from John Votta in NJ who wanted to me to send it to the NY
listserv. I couldn't see any photo but maybe someone else can. If it's true

earthquake yesterday. Despite the name - this is a green parrott. The b
Went on a brief frip to the south part of Pelham Bay park and had a small
influx of migrant warblers. Most notable were a pair of Hooded Warblers but
the flock included Black & white, American Redstart, Chestnut-sided, Blackpoll,
and a few other species. I also noticed unfortunately that none
The Gray-hooded Gull was seen by myself, Doug Bloom and Orlando Hidalgo from
around 8am to 9am at the same spot across from the ferris wheel where it has
been seen regularly. A juvenile Lesser Black-backed Gull was farther down the
beach.

I took a look a the Gray-headed Gull photo and do agree with Doug's id. I am
familiar with them having seen them in their native habitat several times and
it
does look 100% like a Gray-headed. Great find. Hope it's refound.

I just had the two male Baltimore Orioles and juvenile oriole at my feeders
together. It just occurred to me that maybe the other "male" just might be a
female with male colors. I know some females can look similar to males but are
usually obviously female but this one is identical to the male
For the second time in three days I had a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird join
the male Baltimore Oriole and catbirds at the feeders. I was very surprised
since they don't breed around where I live and they should've been through by
now. I guess it's just a late migrant north. Pretty neat.
They are closed until further notice so I hope it was seen from the road.

Was able to see the 5 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks at Wallkill River NWR's
Liberty Loop Trail at 8am today. They were actually north of Oil City Rd. in
the second impoundment on the left where all the mallards and pipers are. Had
nice looks as they flew around and fed. Observed them til 8:30
Just wondering if anyone out there lost a Canon camera eyepiece at Doodletown
recently? I found one yesterday there. If you did let me know and I'll mail
it
to you.

Well I haven't gotten any birds at my fruit feeder yet, but amazingly did get a
fresh Question Mark who is still there. That's the first butterfly I've ever
had at a feeder whether intentionally or unintentionally. Pretty cool, hope
more come. I do hope the oriole and catbirds don't pick it o

I know have two gorgeous Fox Sparrows at my feeding stations. They are such
beautiful birds. The Hermit Thrush is still putting in appearences aswell.
Spring must be close cause all the birds are more vocal and the grackles have
arrived back at the feeders and nesting trees.

Here, Here. I'm glad so many people responded to the unbelievable actions of
this person. As I've said before not all but many if not most so called
photographers have no scruples and will do anything to get close to their
quarry. You would think that when this guy found the end of the trail
Just had two Common Redpolls at my feeding station. This is only the second
time in 39 years we've had them, go figure.

yet? It says on the cornell site that they'd be posted in early january. Well

My Hermit Thrush was back again today feeding on the window feeder. I'm
surprised it's eating the mix b/c I think of them as fruit and insect eaters.
I
put out a window feeder filled with dried meal worms and it's not even touching
them. Does anyone out there have the same problem? If so an
