My database size is big i.e more than 150GB, so Iam using pipe(mknod) feed thru dd input and output to tape, same way Iam importing back thru tape as input and pipe as a file input to imp. So Iam geting no response..I hope you understood now!!

mode. He didn't know that it supposed to be done in BINARY mode. Now, he

Never in production. But once I was writing a paper on upgrading databases
with low downtime, then I tested
I have been using it on HP and it speeds up export with direct=y. I wish HP
should enhance this value greater than 65535 as it is maximum limit on HP.
It helped me in export when we were changing block size from 4K to 16K

For imp, there's lot's of opportunities for speeding up it's speed.
For huge tables/schemas I would:
1) Import the table definitions without any constraints or indexes.
2) Disable triggers if any.

Most likely, you will have to run the imports to get the data and the
primary keys. Then run them again with ignore=y and rows=n to get the
foreign keys.
