RE: Large Format vs. Digital/Stitching

How is an out of focus image pleasing to the eye? That is what will happen if the circlar plane of focus doesn't have enough depth of field on a flat object. As far as technical accuracy goes, why stitch if the goal isnt a higer resolution image and if you're out of focus you wont achieve it now

If you pan the camera to take the sequence of photos to be stitched later, isnt the fact that the camera back is panning going to give you a curved plane of focus or in the case of vertical as well as horizontal panning, give you a spherical plane of focus? I would think this could be masked

Im not talking about panoramics, Im talking about using a DSLR to do normal photography and stitching both verically and horzontally to simulate LF. I don't see how you could do that without a tripod unless you do a lot of overlapping and that would require even more exposures and time to shoot.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. When they went to K, they HAD to change the mount to provide bayonet mounting and the new mount was better. THEY GAINED A NEW BETTER MOUNTING SYSTEM. There is NO new gain with the istD mount, just loss of K/M AE. JCO -Original Message- From: Antonio [mailto:[EMAIL

I never said there was anything wrong with the design, it's just that AT THE SPECIFIC magnification the older designs were designed for, the pseudo-zooms are going to hard time matching the classic fixed designs, the extra elements needed for faster speed and wider focus range become a burden

But don't forget, you can do C-41 at home for less than any photofinisher charges and it is nearly just as easy as BW. I do all my large meduim format C-41 processing myself now and it is really easy and inexpensive. The chemistry I use is only 3 steps with only the first step being time and temp

Just to clarify, my comment was that LONG FOCUS lenses are rare, telephotos, which are different design (physically shorter than focal length) are very common Generally, long focus designs are usually better than teles especially with regard to geometric distortion JCO -Original
