I just noticed that my DFA 28-105 f3.5-5.6 does not show up in EXIF
data. I've tried it on the K1 and the K3 and in both cases when I view
file info in Photoshop the lens field in blank. I noticed this because
uploads to flickr with this lens also do not show any lens data. I tried

Hi Mark,
Here are my thoughts (but you might have already had all of them
yourself..)
Your photoshop could have a problem if it's RAW module version is older
than the lens. But since Flickr doesn't show that name either, I'd assume
it is not there.
(A slim chance if that PS strips it out ...
Firmware up to date?

In the Pentax system, the lens doesn't report a readable name to the
camera, but reports a couple of unique numbers that are recorded in the
EXIF. Your software then has to be updated to map those numbers to the
user-readable name of the lens. According to this page:

Thanks, Igor. The contacts on the lens look fine. Since this problem
only happens with this lens and appears on multiple bodies, it clearly
is the lens that is at issue. Since flicker shows a lot of exif info I
compared what it shows for shots with my lens verses Larry's copy of the
same lens.

Larry's version of Lightroom is new enough to understand the 28-105
lens code, and the version he exports to Flickr has the human-readable
name somewhere in

You're right - I pulled a shot into Pentax's Digital Camera Utility and
it correctly shows the lens name and other info. So I won't worry about it.
Eventually I might have to update my software...

Matthew,
You are correct in your assessment. I think it is the 2nd time I am making
a wrong assumption that Flickr keeps its database up to date.
I need to take a mental note of it, and, more importantly, remember about
it. :-)
What I didn't know is that LR/PS, etc are actually writing the
