Extended warranties are mostly a waste of money, there are very very
few things I buy an extended warranty for.
Buy your equipment with a credit card that offers automatic warranty
extension. Mine doubles the manufacturer's warranty.

Check the terms of your VISA/Mastercard. Often purchases made with
these will extend the warranty to double the manufacturer's warranty up
to an additional year.

Did you compare the cost of the extended warranty with the cost of the
repair?
As a general rule, never insure against any risk you can afford to pay
for. Over your life you will spend two or three times as much on premiums
as you would on repairs and replacements. Who do you think is
When I buy the K10D I will be taking out extended warranty. I just have had
to have my istD repaired under extended warranty and believe its great
insurance. (My delete button wouldn't work.

I was always under the impression that this extended warranty thing is
"retailer"s" side business
Not me, but then I haven't purchased a K10D yet. :-) In general extended
warranties are scams. I always ask the salesperson (if offered a warranty
on something) whether they expect the product to fail.

Hello,
When I purchased my *istD several years back, I bought the extended
warranty through my local camera shop. I never did have reason to use
it though - Thankfully!
So, my question is, how many of you purchased an extended warranty for the K10D?
Thanks!

When I took out the extended warranty CR Kennedy was the OAMPS repairer,
but OAMPS were so slow to pay and caused so many hassles for CR Kennedy
that they refused to have anything else to do with them - or so the
person at CR Kennedy told me.
I finally got hold of the person who is in charge

That has been my strategy for a while.
Mine too. They are a real cash cow for retailers and the limitations/
exclusions in the fine-print often make them virtually

Hi Stan
thanks for sharing your "warranty experience" and your good advice.
3 month waiting? Glad you had another Pentax ready to prevent withdrawal
symptoms!
So do they not guaranty any response or repair times in the warranty
contract?

Yes, you're screwed, though you have a nice camera to make you feel

Last year I bought my MZ-S at McBain Camera in Edmonton, and nothing was said about
any extended warranty. After reading a post a few weeks ago about an extended
warranty, I called Pentax Canada in Vancouver, and was told the only extended
warranties here are from dealers, such as McBain
In case anyone is interested, I did call B&H and Cameraworld.
Neither had the 2 year Pentax ext. warranty for the MZ-S yet.
B&H had it in their computer and said they will get it around the
end of March. Cameraworld also has it in their computer and will
have it for sale sometime soon for $50.

Thanks all for the replies.
Tom, that's what the Pentax rep. told me. He also gave me a product number
for the Pentax MZ-S 2 year extended warranty as Product 80200.
He said the list price for the Pentax extended warranty is $149.99, but the
actual price charged by the discount mail order h

As I understand it, the extended warranty on a MZ-S is two years, which is on top of
the normal one year warranty. T
