Suffice to say that other squeezelite' players I have, all play the aac

Yes. But I'm pretty certain when I first installed SB Player a couple
of weeks back that I played the BBC streams, as they are in my
favourites & I almost always use those as test streams for new devices.

I haven't updated the SB Player on the Fire TV but I think (not 100%
sure) that the Fire TV did some kind of update the other day now I think
about it. Perhaps the AAC decoding is now broken.
It's very strange that it actually played ok for a bit.

Strange case of white noise with BBC aac streams
Pretty much as it says - white noise when playing BBC live via the
android-based SB Player.
I think these streams did play when I first installed the app about 2
weeks ago.

streaming formats for some streams:

SB Player will just tell LMS that it doesn't support AAC. You just need
to disconnect and re-connect to apply the change.

Ok thanks. I have a feeling (due to dicking about with upnp bridge
recently on my new onkyo that the bbc stream may in fact be delivered as

It's not all Androids bpa only Amazon Fire TV. The debug option in SB
Player says it is AAC at 16/48 but I am not convinced.

The sampling rate shouldn't matter since SB Player will resample. Check

Actually, I just remembered, when the Android system decodes AAC, it
automatically downsamples. So the FireTV is probably not downsampling
correctly.

You're right BBCiPlayer does seem to stream flac at 16/48 even when the
player is set to 44.1. But it plays fine on a Nexus 7, so it can't be
the internal resampler in SB Player.
It also plays fine on my Samsung Tab 3.

I should add that sometimes - after a disconnect and reconnect possibly
- it will play Ok on Fire TV but switching to another channel will
instigate the white noise.

What I really like about the Amazon Fire TV are the fantastic
screensaver photos. They are stunning and keep getting added to it
seems.

Interestingly we have established that by default SB Player announces
itself as 44.1 capable but that BBC Plugin / LMS still sends the stream
as 16/48. Why would that be? LMS correctly down samples 24/96 FLAC to
14/44.1 etc but the BBC plugin seems fixed at the original HLS format
16/48.

At a guess - the player announces to LMS in Slimproto HELLO that it is
both 44.1 and 48Khz capable !

For me, the "Ban this Artist" doesn't see to be working. In my
"Classical" genre radio mix, I got a track from the "Timeless" Album by
David Garrett. I banned it yesterday, and today when I used the Mix
again, the exact same Track showed up again. So, either the ban did not
work at all or somethin
V1.7.1... a tweak on the EXPERIMENTAL mix control?
No, more tweaking on the pause/resume mix feature. Previously if you
paused a mix, then deleted all remaining tracks and resumed, the mix
would have stopped playing, as it forgot to add new tracks.
