Having delved further into the issues here, I am doubting that this
really has anything to do with the way Warsow is packaged. It may be
that glxinfo is reporting direct rendering incorrectly, but there are
also issues with the video card drivers. I'm marking this bug as invalid

Okay, I have some updates.
I tried installing a big bunch of OpenGL games through Add/Remove and,
in the process, ended up getting a different libcurl3 that Warsow likes.
So now I can run the latest Warsow binaries from the website just fine,
demonstrating that this is a bug with the Ubuntu
That workaround did the trick, but the bug is still there. If the power
to the drive is already on and then it is connected via USB, why does it
not automount?

external hard drive, it does not mount. It is displayed correctly by

Ubuntu Feisty detects bogus
Interesting thing I noticed today -- if I open Sound Juicer, it reports
that the bogus CD has 104 tracks. I don't know if that will stay
constant every time I boot, or whether that number could mean anything,
but I thought I'd share it.
