I had a calamares failure whilst DITHERING on installer in focal.3 daily
install earlier; so I'll attempt to repeat my DITHERING here and see if
calamares
System was rebooted, live started & install completed on next try.
The difference was lack of selecting this, selecting that, & loads of
hovering over partitions to get 'sda1' & 'sda2' to show on map down the
bottom.

This is a very belated reply to your last (final paragraph) question of
2020-12-03, and I can only give my opinion, ie. what I'd do.
It's a low priority bug, and I'd test for it occasionally.. but not
daily (a quick look at shows you very regularly testing for it;

error while installing ubuntu side-by-side with windows 10
To manage
Booted today's impish daily (live QA-test) on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
On initial boot there were glitches on the top of the display (panel &
top of wallpaper below panel). It booted with wallpaper (not no
wallpaper today so not identical).

I'm unable to change wallpaper now.
On selecting some they appear to flash on screen, then get replaced by a
image... currently this firefox window appears on my other display with
this "add comment" box frozen at the word "currently" last line when the
image was changed...

having TOP/BOTTOM displays the wrong way, detected via mouse
Current Lubuntu daily was written to media using
`sudo dd bs=4M oflag=sync status=progress of=/dev/sdb
if=/de2900/lubuntu_64/impish-desktop-amd64.iso`
and that boots normally... with desktop up & visible within 6 mins
anyway (I forgot to look at clock; too busy picking up mouth from
floor..)
