Thanks Sandro - just installed it, seems to be working.
It seems like maybe they aren't going to bother with it. If anyone else
is running Ubuntu 12.10 and having trouble, I have taken the liberty to
create two scripts from Sandro's instructions. Run the first one from
the regular graphical interf

Well yeah, but Ubuntu without Unity and Compiz and it is stable. I had
constant freezes with 12.04 64bit with Intel processor. Freezes
persisted with every fix until I changed the kernal. Then with
subsiquent updates from Ubuntu not matching the kernal I eventually had
other little issues, nothing
When I turn on the PC and start ubuntu, sometimes, instead of the login screen,
it gives me a black screen with a blinking dash in the upper left of the screen
and I get only the pointer. So I used "xdiagnose" which gave me this error

Guys! MINT is based off Ubuntu.
Mint is nothing less than Ubuntu with another Desktop Environment
(CInnamon) and some tweaked options to make it look like Microsoft Windows.

Oh the horror... Guess what? What ever upgrade came down the pipe

I've just installed a fresh version of 12.04 on my machine and am having
terrible problems with the screen flickering/going blank for several
seconds as well (it was fine with the previous 10.04 version).
lspci lists the graphics card as:

This issue may be resolved in linux-image-3.7.0 RC6 which I tested for
Bug 1081283. I will do further testing with that image and report.
