Hi, Jesse. The Detroit Hardwax is a label run by Robert Hood (as opposed to the Hardwax based out of Berlin which is a record store). Drama also has a Hood connection. 430 West is a label operated by the Burden brothers (who record as Octave One and Random Noise Generation). The URL is http://www.430west.com I dunno about any label called Mills or any artist that records as Mills other than Jeff Mills. I also don't know of a label called Brown and Black. There's Jay Denham's Black Nation label, and there's a band called Black Label Society that's headed by Zak Wylde (Ozzy's former guitarist; i know this cos a guy a work played it last night, by the way! :)), but that's all I can think of that's Brown and/or Black related. hope this helps. andrew duke :) Jesse Bagshaw Gay wrote: > Does anyone have any contact info for the following labels/artists? > We have been getting multiple requests for them, and the local stores > don't have/only order limited copies of them. > > Drama > Hardwax Detroit > Brown and Black Label > 430 West > Random Noise Generation > Mills(not Jeff) > > thanks, > > Jesse Gay > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > OMCO(Outward Music Company) > www.outwardmusic.com > Your source for innovative electronic music > 503-284-8255 > 503-939-1961 -- Cognition/Andrew Duke's In The Mix mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://techno.ca/cognition 1096 Queen St #123 Halifax NS Canada B3H 2R9

He did two more 12"s with Open House before falling off the radar for a few years before reappearing with the stunning "Earth & Nightfall" full-length on R&S. He then released the equally amazing "Ten Days of Blue" full-length on Peacefrog and under the guise Placid Angels (which sums up his sound quite well) released one of the most acclaimed aesthetic deep tech-house full-lengths ever, "The Cry" also on Peacefrog. He then began to branch out in much the same way as Carl Craig or Kirk "Detroitio" did (towards jazz and fusion) with the "Moving Through Here" disc on R&S and also on the Indio disc on the Transmat label. Much like the response to both Planetary Folklore and Programmed the hardcore fans (like me) of Beltran's early sound generally appreciated the new releases but found they lacked the emotional depth and the consistency of his earlier stuff. If you like Indio (not a bad record) I'll venture a guess that any of his first three albums will just blow you out of the water, especially "The Cry" which at one point I had on tape in my car and listened to (no other full albums) for about six months in a row. There is a really good Beltran bio at the R&S site (much better than most of the rest of their bios). Matt

(313) news from the finalfrontier
New release info from the Final Frontier collective of labels... Nature records Artists: Mat101 Title: Arcade remixes (feat. Adult, D Arcangelo, De Lisio) Cat. n°: NAT2116 Format: 12" Release date: now After their first album out on Balance (that was a collaboration between our "oldest" labels Nature & Plasmek), finally here s the long awaited remix release with contributions coming from Ersatz Audio s Adult, from Rephlexian & Natural s D Arcangelo plus a new act coming out from Rome: De Lisio. On this 12", the versions of course are very eclectic: Adult brings his own style into the Mat101 melodic structure, a kind of hi-speed new wave electro; D Arcangelo destroyed the original theme of Arcade, adapting Mat101 to their abstract disturbed sounds; De Lisio brought us a classic Nature flavoured version, tons of melodies with broken beats. There s a bonus version coming from Mat101 it s the very original version check it out! Artists: J s Pool Title: Mepsinalium ep Cat. n°: NAT2115 Format: 12" Release date: now Another act from England, and this time it s a new band comin from London. The J s Pool (a quite young duo) appeared already on the first Finalfrontier sampler with one track. Their music is a deep downtempo electronic with very interesting rhythmic structure, "from hip hop to jazzy" influenced. This is just a 4 tracks preview of their entire range of sound that will be available later on in the year on a double LP & CD. Engine Artists: D Arcangelo Title: Blind Retina Cat. n°: Engine 01 Format: 12" Release date: now The long awaited D Arcangelo s label is finally available!!! Five tracks of introspective D Arcangelo sound that come back after their great double pack out on Rephlex a year ago. This new label will feature most of the times D Arcangelo s experiments but there will be also some special guest from the electronix network, later on Plasmek Artists: Sprawl Title: Unknown patterns Cat. n°: PLASMEK 009 Format: LTD 12" Release date: now Limited series from Plasmek with three electro tracks taken from the Finalfrontier archives. Also this time the tracks are coming from the label creator Andrea Benedetti. Hypnotic electro on one side, and deep / dark electro on the other side. Yea, Alan's interview reminds me of the time I was introduced to techno and house music at the young age of 13 back in 89" from listening to a local community radio station, http://www.knon.org/ The dj at the time Jeff K who went on to host a very popular techno/ electronica show Edgeclub 94 www.edgeclub.com/ on a big alternative rock radio station 94.5 KDGE http://www.kdge.com/ and later went to work for Groove Radio in LA. thanks for the info: stephen.

RE: (313) DJ assault belle isle tech
I have the Electrofunk/ Assault Rifle version and was a bit let down after the first listen. I'd heard many of his best tracks at various clubs and had always liked them: a guilty pleasure. The "Belle Isle Tech" album may be one of his worst, in my opinion. The first CD is all gangster rap that has an NWA sense of attitude and a 2 Live Crew sense of sexism. The beats are pretty good though. Just too bad Assault and De can't rap. The second disc is a mix. It's alright. The mixing is pretty bad, but he drops many of his best tracks including "Ass'n'titties," "sex on the beach," "shake it baby," etc. I'd recommend the "Mr. Muthafucka" compilation. It's not mixed, but it has many of his best tracks. Stay away from his rap CDs unless you really like some "straight up ghetto shit." -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of martin clark Sent: Tuesday, February 22, 2000 6:50 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) DJ assault belle isle tech 313 i've got DJ assault's belle isle tech mowax comp. can anyone tell me how it compares to other assualt stuff? is it more on the electro side or the tech/base side? martin __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

This would not happen to be the Dominator remix he did for Human Resource? ;) If you want a blackmail 12" I gave a friend of mine a copy of "The Final Dominator Remixes" With Rich on one side, and a Damon Wild remix on the B-side. I can't remember which label this come out on? It is pretty funny stuff, It is very much one of those VH-1 "Before They Were Rock Stars" type records. It makes you realise that these guys did a lot of growing in order to get their production where it is today. take care, Mike "Zoo Rave" Taylor Kent williams wrote: > > In Iowa City Saturday, Richie mentioned that he had done one remix > that he was particularly unhappy with, for an artist he declined to name. > Maybe this was the one ;-) > > kent williams -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > On Tue, 22 Feb 2000, Matt Holland wrote: > > > Ok. Funny, I remember as a kid hearing about someone getting in trouble for shouting "Errol Flynn" and all and I thought "how come he's in trouble for talking about an actor???"
