apologies if this question has already been answered: why was 430 West UK set up? I'm not sure why 430 West would take this step ie why not just continue to import 430 West into the UK/etc? and, it follows, why is the Mayday mix of Jaguar just out on 430 West UK (and not 430 West as well)? I realize the remixes came out on 430 West instead of UR, but why did that happen? Damn, I'll have to check this out. Other cd's - you could -try- getting from the 21st on Sony Japan, or maybe borrow it from someone. This is one of the best ones IMO. Also I think Every dog has it's day is on CD and this is recent. This is definitely what you're looking for, every song on there is fairly mellow and there are some real gems. RE: [313] UR live pa tape
I got hold of a recording of a live UR pa from new york 1992, it starts of with sonic destroyer(i think), amazon's on there, there's also an MC on there (Rob Hood?) about 4-5 tracks in human resource - dominator drops in and someone (Jeff Mills?) starts djing.. was this the standard fare, live and dj sets combined for the UR pa's? what was the lineup for UR at the time? yeah some sort of. although they didn't that many live show they toured australia late 92 also, same deal as marsel outlines for the utrecht show.. rob 'the noise' hood mc'ing, banks on machines and t-1000 9alan oldham) was the dj as mills quit UR two days before the tour.. IMO this was UR at their peak - at least here in adelaide _everyone_ who was into any serious form of dance music at all was into UR. It's changed a hell of a lot since.. j

Reg. 1000capacity Thus Night/Windsor DEEP DEEP DEEP Venue!
I appreciate the responses received from my last email...your support and energy is what will make this Thursday night happen. Similar to my last question, I'm looking for any feedback regarding a new Thursday night in Windsor (1000-1500 capicity) Here's the deal; every Thursday w/ bi-weekly monthly international undeground house, garage techno DJ's The weeks in between will showcase local talent. This nightly venue is about deep, soulful music. Music that deserves a large venue with TIGHT sound! My name is Andrew Folkes (CKLN 88.1FM, Garage416 Toronto) . I'll be your weekly resident so I'm looking very forward to banging out some deep tracks for peeps across the river. The underground scene in Toronto is literally explosive right now, however I am very excited about experiencing the Detroit scene - it's gonna be MAD fun! I have a strong belief that there's a very large underground community in Detroit that would come to Windsor Thursday nights to check out good music in a very nice club atmosphere. However, I'd really like to get some more feedback on wether this is correct or not. Also, any links to underground, deep, soulful local DJ's (+ promoters!)is also appreciated. This night is as much about local talent as international talent. Thanks for your help! Peace - Andrew Folkes _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. KMS 49 - what's that noise!??
Does anybody know where *that* synth sweep on Chez Damier's KMS49 (untitled, but it goes Come on girl, you ain't dancing - the other side is the same as the Climax, as an aside, where's that from?) comes from? Off the top of my head it's also used by Grant Nelson (GOD project part 1) and the Basement Boys (250lbs of remix). I'm pretty sure I've got other tracks that sample it, too. I don't which of these came first (I heard KMS 49 first, but that means nothing) nor if any of these are the original source. But it is a wicked noise and one of my favourite tracks, so I wiz wondering... Cheers, Jonny.

Re: [313] re: Mayday mix of Jaguar/430 West UK
Hmm i bought the 430 West UK version didnt look at the track listing i thought it was the one with the MayMix and CD-Rom vid but all it had was the orignal mix, lawrence burden radio edit and the jeff mills mix. Seems this version of jaguar is geared for the charts over here cos the radio edit and also less tracks as in the uk there are rules on the lengh of a cd and how many tracks can be on it for it to be chartable or something like that. So as far as i can tell there are now 3 versions out maybe thats why jaguar didnt chart as high as it could? Re: R: [313] Mellow Mills (Was: what do you reccomend?)
I forgot to add there's also the Lifelike CD. thanks for answering and the help fab (1) The Other Day Very soulful and sensual - the sleeve notes are really insightful. Was released through React in the UK. (2) From The 21st Some very abstract moments, very cerebral, arresting - definitely worthwhile. Hard to find! Released in Japan only through Sony Japan. (3) Every Dog Has Its Day Soulful, deep. You could almost say that it represents Mills' take on a classic Detroit sound. Very hard to find. On vinyl through Axis. Also look out for If on Axis - with that jazzy scat/gospel vocal by Anna F, it's amazin'. (4) Metropolis Mills has conceptualised his score in much the same way as he approached X-103's Atlantis, which recounted the myth of the ancient city sonically. Mills' Metropolis is surreal and subtle in its scope, as he turns techno into incidental music, manipulating the mood... At last Metropolis has found a sympathetic score that matches the stark beauty of its celluloid images. I heard a Dj Pierre record on Stricly Rhythem (wrong spelled) witch has has the same sound All I can say is ;? that is a reverse sample second it's a filter over a chord or a bundle of tones like a stab of trumpets ect. ? instead of a filter over 1 sound/oscillator A lot of ppz in the 313 area used this technology check the 'fear of spiders' remix by kenny larkin on plink plonk. (if anybody wants to know how he did it ;) I know I know (sorry sorry mis quote from drexcia) It can be done with for instance a k2000 sampling it own chords !! this is tech house like it shout be ( not like theorem ect. ) that is my opinion ;? but I'm still a copycat And Kevin is cool for answering the questions on-site - Original Message - From: Jonny McIntosh [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2000 5:47 PM Subject: [313] KMS 49 - what's that noise!?? Re: [313] Mellow Mills (liner note dribble)
hello, I think the real problem is that he has read a bit of R. Buckminster Fuller, and has tried to emulate Fuller's very peculiar way of expressing himself. If you can get your head around where he is coming from, Fullers style is not dribble at all, in fact it is probably more effective and accurate than standard english. I would imagine that Mills picked up his fancy for Fuller during his university days as an architecture student. The problem comes when a hip-hop dj from Detroit tries to sound like a Harvard educated polymath and philosopher...heavy on form, not much substance. take care, mt Scott Vallance wrote: re: jeffs liner notes on his records: am I the only person that thinks its all total dribble? I mean, really! no I definately think its dribble, have you read the lifelike compilation notes? *sheesh* If he wants us to know about him, why doesn't he just talk a bit about his life, his family etc etc All this intellectualising gives no insight into him except to say he's a bit full of it. Re: [313] Re: R: [313] Mellow Mills (Was: what do you reccomend?)
What cat no is this one and when it was released? Thanks and if jeff mills is x-103 then x-102 is mad mike i suppose ? thanks robert
