Since side A is the standout IMO, I'd like to know the title of it, and also if it (and NMYWAGON) is actually a new track. re [313] Karlheinz Stockhausen
-Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Dave Dawson [EMAIL PROTECTED] An: 313@hyperreal.org 313@hyperreal.org Datum: Donnerstag, 18. Januar 2001 05:19 RON Betreff: [313] Karlheinz Stockhausen Here is a text about Karlheinz Stockhausen. This may be slightly off topic. It says in the article that He influenced kraftwerk among others, so some might find it of interest. Any one heard his music? Worth seeking out? Stockhausen has been a great influence on a lot of people. His approach towards composition and sound construction as well as much of his actual music is really inspiring. I will say though that I think his approach towards sound construction works a lot better when he realizes it electronically instead of with traditional instruments/voices. (ditto for Xenakis) As a result, my appreciation for Stockhausen is mostly with regard to his electronic output, which, though only a small portion of his total work, is of consistently high quality. My all time favorite Stockhausen piece is Hymnen, which was dense masses of sound into which was incorporated national anthems, shortwave radio sounds, choral effects and found voices. The whole piece flows excellently and is a journey through a very wide range of moods, sounds and techniques while remaining very focused, coherent and composed. His music is decidedly experimental, though. No beats, overt rhythms or melodies, at least not in any conventional sense, though Hymnen does have an obliquely consonant feel to it and has a very palpable sense of momentum. His music can also shift on you quite suddenly with sounds or voices suddenly, and sometimes loudly, coming out of the mix at you. i wouldn't call it scary music, but it isn't ambient mood music designed to be played in the background and ignored. the music is composed and sounds best (and reveals the most) when you actively engage in it. if you're interested in exploring his electronic works, I'd suggest checking out: Hymnen Gesang der Junglinge Kontakte Telemusik Mixture Mikrophonie I II They were all released on Duetsche Grammophon on LP and have been rereleased on CD recently, though the prices on the releases are obscenely high. If you have a good public library nearby, I'd suggest stopping my the classical music dept. first and seeing if they have the LPs available for listening. Have fun! cc --== Sent via Deja.com ==-- http://www.deja.com/

Kompakt Education Please
I picked up the Kompakt - Total 2 compilation last weekend and I'm love with the M. Mayer track Amanda. The only other Kompakt record I've been inspired to buy so far was the first M. Mayer 12. I see there's a new one, KOM 25. Anyone heard this? How does it compare to the rest of his output? I like the overtly 80's style of Amanda, and the overboard triumphant synths on the first one, but a lot of the other Kompakt stuff I've heard doesn't really grab me as much as say, Perlon, Basic Channel, etc. It almost feels like it's stuck in a grey area between heady dancefloor stuff and super-quirky IDM, never really satisfying my cravings for either. Maybe it just doesn't go over as well in headphones at the record store? So... if you can point me to more Michael Mayer stuff that's worth picking up, or releases on Kompakt that are sure to impress, I'd be much obliged. On that tip, anything that's on this German retro-80s meets German house tip sounds good to me. The Popacid mix of Fackeln Im Sturm by Wolfgang Voigt is another example of this style. previously... On a completely different note, 70s soul fans should be sure to check out Radio 2's show on Leroy Hutson's Hutson I album tonight at 10pm. What an LP! dagnabbitt!'s drunken selections, down yonder..
i have a mix cd that i have been making copies of and giving it out locally and such, if anyones interested in hearing it it's playing over and over and over @ http://www.djbrunob.com/ or you can just click on the link: http://64.31.198.106:8000/listen.pls you will need winamp. it was something that was recorded at a little studio/apt. private party we had back in novemeber, and it came out decent so i've been making little ghetto copies and handing them out. the mix starts out on the hard side cause andrei was banging pretty hard before me, but it gets a little more mellow i guess. it was all on the fly with hardly any practice in forever, and to be honest i kinda want to redo it. :) selected tracks include everything from ben sims, umek, samuel sessions, paul damage.. to casey hogan, g-flame, kenneth graham and the smith vs. ebe on jericho. the mix is only about 55min and the CD i gave brunob had a few extras at the end. so anyhow, all feedback will be greatly appreciated. i think the mix has its good points. :) also, carola played here back in dec and the mp3 is up @ http://www.713tekno.net ...possibly one of the best sets i have ever heard in my life! more on the funkier tip than most of the mixes i have heard from him, but i guess he had too in order to keep the houston crowd going... marco is a very amazing dj, possibly the best IMO. thanks for your time. v[§|§h裣ìë2Ð] v[Ha®Ð®ìvë][+ëk|xùÞÞØ®+] v[Çhëm¡§+®¥|®ëÇø®Ð§][7|3.52|.4797] v[|| | | || | | || | v[http://hardrivefuture.com] [http://chemistryrecords.com] v[http://713tekno.net] I have also been removing people who do not like me. Repetitive music
Greetings, This quote just came over to me from the Coil list. It was so damn funny, I just have to forward it. The original author's name was not included, so I can't give proper creditanyway here goes: Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music. http://www.mp3.com/zarathustra http://www.assasins.net

Also Traum releases are very good, maybe to heady for what you are looking for but still worth the listen. On KOMPAKT you cant beat Robson Ponte by Reinhard Voigt I believe it is #15. KOMPAKT's web add. is www.KOMPAKT-NET.DE There you can find the discography of the labels they dist. and descriptions of each. Also listen to the Freiland series by Wolfgang Voigt and the max-earnst series by Thomas Brinkmann. Re: [313] Kompakt Education Please
Tristan, I have Kompakt 25 'Pensum' by M. Mayer. It has a very generic tech-house Kompakt feel to it; soft noise laden synth pads, with big bumpy basslines, and off kilter shuffled percussion, not his most shining moment (try 17 4, or the Wasserman rmx that he did.) While I personally enjoy all the Kompakt releases, on some level or other, I would have to say that for someone who wants the best of the best, grab Joachim Spieth's 'Abi 99' (Kom 5), Dettinger 'Blonde' and or 'Puma' (Kom 2 and 6), and Dubstar 'Shining Through (Kom 11). I would alos recommend checking out Kompakt total 1 if not for the Salz track alone (Salz is possibly the most undervalued tech label), then the Dettinger, Mayer, and Paape tracks. In any case I hope everyone would listen to the kompakt backcatalogue or what you can find of it here's a start www.kompakt-net.de weirdness for all todd - Original Message - From: Phonopsia [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Thursday, January 18, 2001 11:21 PM Subject: [313] Kompakt Education Please I picked up the Kompakt - Total 2 compilation last weekend and I'm love with the M. Re: [313] F L A T P L A S T I C // mixshow for 011700 // JACK IN!
I realized that wasn't too descriptive of a post, so I'll expound. I've been cecking out Gilles' mixes for while, and it's cool to see the focus on the deeper side of techno towards the beginning of his shows these days. When I first started checking them out it was almost all house, and he's developed a really nice blend between mellower deep techno and deep house. I try to to do a lot of the same thing towards the beginning of my sets. Plus, his mixing is always extremely tight. Seamless even. It's well worth an hour/week to check it out, and he's got a very nice looking site to boot! Enjoy. :) Tristan --- tristan watkins [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Excellent show this week! Looking for record suggestions...
I used to live in the Detroit area and go to alot of good hard techno parties.. Now I live in the SF bay area and all there is is 'cyber trance'... Now that I'm becoming proficient at beat matching and DJing, I need to expand my record selection into the stuff that I truly love.. Hard, minimal Detroit techno. But there are very few stores here that carry the sound I'm looking for, so I'm asking you guys to make some suggestions on what I should pick up in a big Record Time internet order. :) I'm really looking for that Hawtin-style heavy drum techno style sound. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

re: Blue Monday
You also have the Richie Hawtin remix on the From Manchester With Love compilation (and I think it is also available on their second best of... compilation which I think was called The Rest of New Order). There was a dodgy reissue which I think was called Blue Monday 88 which was not in the same class and of course there is the classic Hardfloor remix which I think Mulero and Molina dropped at the end of their SONAR set last year... then again it may have been the original - all I can rememember is everyone everywhere bugging out on hearing it!
