[313] What happened to Maurice Joshua?
A few days ago, at a society dinner party, myself and the guests were enjoying the subtle delights of Maurice Joshua's I've Got A Big Dick over hors d'ouevres. One of the gentlemen politely inquired as to what Maurice Joshua, a man whose sensitivity was equalled only by his immense talent, might be doing these days. None of us knew. Then the next day, an advertisment appeared on television for a Destiny's Child remix album. My ears perked up when I heard that it included remixes from, among others, Maurice Joshua. I had to do a double-take to make sure I wasn't hearing things. So what's Maurice Joshua up to? Is he making sleazy acid remixes of songs like Survivor and Emotions these days? Or what? It's all pretty intriguing - kind of like Luke making a record with Alanis Morrisette... Re: [313] What happened to Maurice Joshua?
From what I've seen, his work of late has been house remixes of commercial pop tunes. His production is fairly slicked out now - nothing like I've Got A Big Dick or This Is Acid. Middle of the road vocal house. However, he was responsible for remixing a stunning Mary J. Blige cover of First Choice Let No Man Put Asunder. It was available only as a B-side on an import single...I'm not sure if its still around. Find it if you can. -Eli B On Wed, Mar 20, 2002 at 10:36:34AM -, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: So what's Maurice Joshua up to? I know he's been doing R'nB/soul music for a very long time now. I think he does remixes of every R'n B artist around. He's changed to this since the early nineties. [- afaik these are still available at submerge, so the person is just making use or abuse from the fact that these records are only sold in detroit, and through ebay you can offer them to basically anyone in the world. so my question is not about detroit specifically, but about the fact that people take advantage of other peoples sincere motives to make it a special item, just to benefit from it themselves.] jURren _ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Body Soul @ Vinyl 6 Hubert Street Many taxi drivers don't seem to know exactly where Hubert Street is (it's relatively small), so I would tell them between Greenwich Hudson, a few blocks south of Canal. They shouldn't have any trouble from there. And just in case: I noticed you referred to it as Body Soul night, but it's more like Body Soul evening/afternoon. Just an important point so your friend doesn't show up too late. I generally hit the place around 7: 00PM. http://www.bodyandsoul-nyc.com/ And make sure she doesn't miss it! here's my spin: If you beleive that we live in a somewhat free country, then people are free to do whatever they wish. So if someone wants to sell a promo/whitelabel on ebay, that's their buisness. as for the SID records we all know you can only purchase them in detroit, so it may be worth someone's time/money to buy one off of ebay, if they won't heading to the 313 anytime soon. [313] Put A New Ear On.
hi folks. I recall that a number of mailing list members have music collections that could be considered greater than average. at last count, i have upwards of 500 titles. one of the joys that i have discovered as a result of building such a large collection is what i call the rediscovery event. on occasion i may choose a title that i haven't given a listen to in some time. i may not even remember that i had it in my possession. press play or drop the tone arm... and suddenly you rediscover an engaging and enthralling piece of electronic, soulful brilliance. a few days ago i put the needle to arc of blueness by q-moog. lo-fi, high energy soul by a little heard of producer. i am enthusiastic to hear of other members' encounters with the rediscovery event. perhaps this is a silly thread in our environment of heavy issues, but i feel it's time to indulge in the stories surrounding the great trax we have heard in the past. regards, lrh - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The last year or two he's been producing weekend radio mixshows on the for B96 in Chicago... also been featured in various clubs around the Chicagoland area, pretty much spinning underground and disco house. I don't know that he's done any tracks or studio work as of late, but he has been included on the last two B96 Mixmaster Throwdown compilation albums. It's always a fun journey, isn't it? Even though techno represents a small percentage of what I have on vinyl, most of what I have is back from the early 90's (and mainly from Europe). I have a couple of white label pressings from Rabbit City Records that I loved to play back in the day... the ones I have are simply labeled Rabbit City 1, Rabbit City 3 and one or two others as well that I can't remember off the top of my head. Those make for great personal flashbacks. :) Another one I love to blow the dust off of on occasion is an import on Rhythm Records (Amsterdam, I think) called Windows by SIL. M. Closer to home, another one from a few years back is Pullover by Speedy J, although it's not really a flashback since I've never quit spinning it. ;) Matt E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web Site: http://www.magicmattkelly.com - Original Message - From: Lee Herrington [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2002 4:16 PM Subject: [313] Put A New Ear On. hi folks. Ahh Windows...I think both sides of that record were pretty dope. I believe it was Amsterdam too...speaking of Holland, some 'Touche' releases from the early/mid 90's weren't too bad neither... The Rabbit City's were fun to play with, along with the kinda unmarked ones with the drawn robot head that had the light beam purtruding from the forehead.
