any one heard of "Frontier Gyancologist"? It used to be on 104.5 The Blitz out of the Saganaw area. I've only heard Juno's MP3 of the Shake (but will no doubt buy it on the strength of that) but I'll second (maybe it's more like seventh now) that Macho Cat Garage 12". It's great! I picked up the Delsin $tinkworx and "Satellite Cities" twelves while I was at it: oh you talented mailing list, you. Also got the Every Dog 3 today, very expensive but thankfully (?) there aren't too many records that are that essential these days - the 4th and 7th tracks particularly stood out to me. Mmm Mmm. I do still like techno after all. I *didn't* by the Akufen record I listened to, so maybe not too much, but I would have bought the one on A Touch Of Class if it was in stock, as it's mighty. Cheers to Scott and his T-Funktioneers for a Friday in Liverpool, I heartily recommend taking him up on his invitation to visiting 313ers. [313] UR 3000
Just picked up the new UR 12 from Submerge, here are my thoughts. 'Inspiration' is superb and classic UR very much in the style of much of his more upligting Galaxy 2 Galaxy style output. The intro is wicked and builds that familiar feeling of knowing you are in for a cool tune, then when the main melody kicks in, all you can do is smile. A very positive tune from Mike and destined to be a bit of an anthem, though perhaps a bit too much so for some people. Not sure yet if I like it as much as I do 'Timeline', but its still pretty irresistable. The B side is instintly surprising, with its spoken word messages of positivity laid over a classic erratic, yet smooth UR beat and synth. Not sure if Mike is aiming for this to be a bit of a crossover for him in the wake of Blackwater and Jaguar, but I can see both these being played in all sorts of clubs, especially the B side which incredibly would probably sound as comfortable in a techno club as it would in a Paul Oakenfold set. Quite a feat from UR. Also got the new DJ Rolando, haven't had time to check it yet but will post my thoughts on that later. Hmmm, I have a PMC 270A which I like a lot, I haven't tried the PCV 275 but as far as I know it's the same thing just with digital faders. The DJM 500 has more inputs but I agree the knobs and faders don't have quite as nice a feel. They both have effects send and return if I am not mistaken. The cue level meter on the Vestax is awfully handy. Are you buying this new or used? [313] Delsin Stuff was Re: [313] Dimension 5
Hi James, According to the Delsin website it should be available on the 29th of March. I played the entire record on the show a couple months ago, and I am going to play a good chunk of it again when I do a Delsin feature this weekend. I am also in the middle of an interview with John Harvey/D5, I will let you know when it hits the web. On an unrelated note, the new Donna Regina album on Karaoke Kalk is kicking my ass. [313] Avalanches - Since I Left You
Any thoughts on this from the people in Oz? I'm curious what the reaction is like there. It goes all over the place, with a common sample source to much of Detroit/Chicago house (and well beyond that really). If I had to try and characterize it, I'd put it somewhere between Dimitri from Paris, Moodymann and DJ Shadow. The album is never as dark as Moodymann, but it hints in that direction. I dunno how 313 topical it really is, except for "a different feeling" which samples at least two Carl Craig songs - Im.mortal Music - Slam Dance, The Climax, and possibly the first track on More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art. I'm really enjoying it, for what it's worth, and the housier moments remind me of Detroit house turntablized. Only song I really don't care for as much is "Avalanche Rock", which leans towards big beat, albeit the most enjoyable big beat sound I've heard. I love the track-to-track flow and that the whole thing is mixed. Any remixes of this in the works or already out there?
