Hey all, I Need a copy of Laurent Garnier's DJ set from DEMF 2001 Planet E Party. I know it was taped to DAT cause I watched the DAT machine rolling. Re: [313] Italo disco top fives anyone?
Ah wow, now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time... course, it's been at least 2 or 3 years since I last dropped by Gramaphone, but I'm glad to hear that Andy is still in the business there. Seems like I was seeing him in there less and less in recent years... I'm not sure if that's because he took on some other things that were filling up his schedule, or whether I was just overlooking him cuz he's such a short little guy. ;) It still remains one of my all-time favorite record shops, but the traffic and parking (lack of) in that whole area tends to add a slightly tainted flavor to what is otherwise a wholesomely enjoyable experience. Funny you mention the TV thing, last time I was scouring Gramaphone in Chicago for used italo, Andy Moy (one of the oldest school employees there, really nice guy too) was telling me that back in the early 80's on ABC Sports they were used to use italo tracks by Trilogy and Dharma to use as intro music to the sports shows... so appropriate that for that highghtened dramatic cheese factor ... - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] John Tejada
John's new album is great! I just picked it up on wed. and it's really nice stuff. It is very much in the vein of the de:focus album. It's different without being too IDM. It's great to hear so much variety from John. He's one of those guys that has pure talent and an uncanny musical ear. Does anyone know when his immigrant LP is coming out? minto __ Do You Yahoo!? [313] Lawrence
Has anyone else heard the new Lawrence record on Ladomat? Is it just me, or is there some major Theo Parrish worship going on? I'm hearing a little bit of KDJ in there as well (the third track sounds like an interpretation of the Soul Sounds 12). Re: [313] Adult Trans Am Thoughts
- Original Message - From: Paul V [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Friday, June 14, 2002 9:27 AM Subject: [313] Adult Trans Am Thoughts Hey all; Any thoughts or reviews of the ADULT/Trans AM show in Detroit last night? cheers P.V Chiming in a bit late on this one, but they just played DC last night, so there you have it. :) First off, the economy of shows is completely whack when I only had to pay $10 to see three great bands last night, and I usually have to pay that much to see local DJs. El Guapo were very tight. A good 3-piece, with everyone playing lots of different instruments, and a very healthy dose of electronics on-board. Both El Guapo and Trans Am used a Nord Lead 2, and seemed to have an awful lot of fun with the wooden pitch-bend knob. We only caught the last few songs of the first set, but I'd definitely go to see 'em again. ADULT was ADULT. Not too much to say. Lots of tight electroclash in their uniquely punkish way. It was a lot of fun to see them live, and hear some new material. Does anyone know what song has really fast vocals and every verse end with Stop? That was a really nice track, and I didn't recognize it. Their music really carries over well to a live performance, even if it's very laptop-driven, probably because they're both obviously still doing something. Trans Am really stole the show though. They opened up with 2 drummers and 2 keyboards, then pretty much everyone switched instruments throughout the show. The drumming was really energetic throughout, and the more-than-healthy dose of Nord was beautiful. It would have been interesting to see the same show in Detroit too, since the home towns are inverted for ADULT and Trans Am. I think maybe 30 people in the fairly large audience knew who ADULT were here. It was a very indie-rock crowd.
