do the vocals run something like this: 'we find out for my true love, never
going to dance to a different tune, going to scream and shout till my dying

if so, then it's the damned, 'smash it up'.

Cameo - Money was actually the same as Kvein Saunderson's Velocity Funk. I
just remember a friend buying it and the guy who sold it to her said that
she wanted Cameo and not the KMS tune. She bought a record which I believe
is the same as my KMS Velocity Funk but it is titled as Cameo - Money (KMS
remix) so did Kev just rehash it later as his own? That is the

[313] London: Koobla - A Correction

2002-07-26 Thread Odeluga, Ken
Early this week I posted about the above newish record shop.

Pls note the correct spelling.

It's on Berwick Street W1, near all the other well-known one's there, same
side as Selectadisc, Reckless.

Since I last visited, they appear to have hired loads more staff and shown
Mr Grumpy the door.

Amongst the stuff they currently have (apart from requisite brand new stuff
of course) is:

complete Basic Channel (vinyl!) collection;

everything else we tend to like including: Environ 4 (back in), Grava 4,
Ataril (new Brikha), Daniel Wang/Balihu, many KDJ's, tonnage of Berlin,
Detroit all other worthy genres.

Note: They're not cheaper than say, Selectadisc.

No website yet as they're: Trying to do something not-run-of-the-mill, so
it takes it bit more time.

I recall Kevin doing the same with an old Inner City tune Do you love what

[313] Fw: Rock The Bells in 2002

2002-07-26 Thread Tom Robbins/Magic Feet
Not exactly 313, but an old favourite anyway.

**

ROBERT ARMANI
'CIRCUS BELLS 2002'

Artist: ROBERT ARMANI
Title: CIRCUS BELLS 2002
Label: URBAN SUBSTANCE
Format: 12
Catalogue No.: USR-08
Release: 16/09/02
Distribution: INTEGRALE

TRACKLIST:

A: CIRCUS BELLS (STROBE LIGHT MIX)
B1: CIRCUS BELLS (STRAIGHT EDGE MIX)
B2 CIRCUS BELLS (REMASTERED)

When you put the words Chicago and Techno together, one man's name
springs to mind: Robert Armani! This Southside Jackmaster has been a techno
staple for the last decade and his discography puts him in a league all of
his own.

He set a blueprint with his signature tough percussion, which was first
aired on 'Ambulance' and 'Circus Bells'. It is the latter track that has
gone on to become one of the biggest classic Techno / House records of all
time. After being remixed by numerous other artists, including the legendary
Hardfloor reworking, Robert felt it was time to give it his own updated
interpretation.

Having released for labels such as Dance Mania, ACV, Dust Traxx,
Djax-Up-Beats, and his own High Octane as well as Urban Substance, carrying
out remixes of JB3 (Joey Beltram), Paul Johnson, Dave Clarke, Blake Baxter,
Armando, and even Gary Numan, Armani's production is world renowned and in
demand.

It is on Urban Substance Records that he has chosen to release 2 new
versions of 'Circus Bells', with the warehouse sounding 'StrobeLight mix'
and the more minimal 'Straight Edge mix'.

Besides the 2 new mixes, label owner Oliver Way decided to include the
original, but opted to speed it up from 123BPM to 130 BPM - making it more
playable in 2002. The original has also been cleaned up (hence the title:
'Circus Bells Remastered') to bring it back to its true sounding tough
Chi-Town groove.

Carl Cox has been playing the new mix to huge reactions, and has been quick
to support it: I have been playing this to death, it's great to see this
track come back with so much energy and power it's hard not to dance to this
new mix. Enjoy!! (Carl Cox, July 2002)
Armani hits back - hard!

I never get lyrics expectally when they are filtered/distorted and screamed,

I _think_ that's Celtic Cross (Bangin Mix) ? The one where the kick seems to
come in offbeat to the bassline.

Stewart Walker anyone? Can't believe he hasn't made more people's lists.
Here's his Force Inc. Stuff. Nevermore is probably my favorite of these:

Stabiles
Force Inc.(Germany)
October 1999

Hurricane Weather
Force Inc. (Germany)
October 2000

Granular Synthesis/Bay Between The Bridges
Mille Plateaux (Germany)
May 2000

Nevermore
Force Inc. (Germany)
August 1999

Gez Varley - Violator Remixes
Force Inc. (Germany)
June 2001
Stewart Walker Remix

One of my older fav's in the Force Inc. catalog is the Car Driver Disco
Award EP. It has nothing to do with disco, but it's some nice hard techno
circa '92. Might be hard to find for the purpose of this order though...

Gene Farris' 'Milky Way' is another nice one.

Guess I haven't followed them too closely in recent years though, so this is
pretty useless...

Was that the 313 night at Public Life, or did I miss something else ? If so,
I will try and make it there first.

I'm going with Dan Butler and Gary Robinson who are also on the list (in
addition to a few friends), and I hope to meet up with Anya there as well.

The one thing I found with the Lost venue is that you need to be towards the
front to get good sound quality, but then I want to be able to see Derrick
and Francois do their thang anyway. :-)

the 313 meet-up was in May? We'll be there from 8 pm onwards and then

I was told the first track he played was Global Communication

At least, I think that was the first track. Kinda ambient. No actual

That was right when I walked in from the backroom.

for the record, it was great. rich tried jacking the sound up really

   yea he was really_testing_that system.(lol)
it's hard to hear the clipping in the dj booth

he spun a nice set and it was a reasonable volume. I didnt catch

yea I'm glad they used the house system because I forgot my ear

kevin had a really nice set. played tons of tracks i reconised with a

I dont think he's put his full faith in to final scratch (yet!), he
   still
had a very large create with him.

[313] decent P2P programs?

2002-07-26 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight
after the fall of Audiogalaxy I haven't been able to find another decent
file share program. I've used LimeWire but can't find diddly on it. Kazaa
and Kazaalite, while I'm able to find what I'm looking for, load spyware
and so far also a couple of viruses (luckily I have Ad-aware and good virus
protection - but the pop up Russian porn windows aren't appreciated here at
work). Please help, I just want to be able to download some decent mix
sets, live tracks, and the occasional old school hardcore punk rock tune -
what are some P2Ps that are free of the add-ons?

Re: [313] decent P2P programs?

2002-07-26 Thread Matthew L. Thompson
I'll second Soulseek. Another relatively bs-free program is WinMX, which
happens to be my first choice. www.winmx.com I've tried Soulseek a couple
of times in the few weeks I've had it... for what I've been looking for,
WinMX seems to have a much larger quantity of offerings. And it's not
simply quantity either, I've had good luck with finding new electronic music
to sample. I'll note that a couple of people I know did initially experience
problems connecting with WinMX, but after tinkering with some settings, they
were able to get it to work fine. Personally, I've never had a problem (I'm
on dial-up and I also use a firewall).

Tried LimeWire... I hated it. Also tried out something called Blubster,
which was so-so... I still prefer WinMX over that. I also have Bearshare, I
have had no luck getting it to even work.

Check out www.afternapster.com for a fairly comprehensive list of what's hot
as far as the current offering of P2P programs go.

I know of people that have had good luck finding songs via ftp, but I'd only
go that route with a broadband connection. There's not much that's more
boring than watching something upload for 20-30 minutes in order to satisy
someone's ratio requirements.
