[313] An old mix
I haven't posted a mix in a long time, and I've been limited to a few mixes for listening while in a transitory mode. I've been really itching to share a new mix forever but two of my recent live mixes got f*cked up in the recording, so I thought I'd share this one from early '99 if anyone is looking for Real Audio goodies. I've listened to it a lot lately and it brought back a lot of good musical memeories, particularly the first four tracks, and my favorite techno song ever, Clark (Mark Bell) - Clip. another good point. how many people went to the bunker records event? sharif is an excellent promoter. he doesn't even work hard at it. he just makes a few phone-calls, and casually hands you a flier. but he has a excellent run of fun events, each one perpetuating the next one. another question- how much was juan's party? RE: [313] birthday party info line 734-945-6925
that's a gross generalization. why is prog/trance always the scapegoat when techno doesn't do well? derrick may draws. richie hawtin draws. steve bug packed time square a few weeks back. shit, when juan played necto last winter it was packed. whoever promoted this event was completely out of touch with the crowd that goes out in detroit. they not only failed to let people know it was happening. they failed to cause a buzz and to make it an event that appealed to people beyond ('hey- famous old dude playing somewhere you don;t know') there is an art to promoting any event, and a lot of people that throw events don;t know it. where was the venue anyways? Well...the artists were there, the venue was PERFECT, but there WAS a lack of promotion. Obviously. I just think that most of the people that are in the scene now, are more of the commercial/progressive persuasion. I'll have to look out for them, but here's some background information in case you didn't know. the head of marketing at Rockstar games is Terry Donovon, who used to be resident DJ at the house of god (www.hog.org.uk) in birmingham, uk. I'm pretty sure they've licensed surgeon ( that'd make sense given the hog connection) and other techno in the past for there games In fact i saw him play there about 2-3 months ago, and he played groove la chord in his set Hope this helps Stuart _ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [313] 313 Party Live set
That is indeed right Ken! The only way UK 313ers can show true commitment to 'the cause' is to go to the WIDE night in Hackney this Friday, dance like a moron to the booty/electro/ghetto-tech wares on offer, and then make a fast recovery on Saturday before heading south to Spitalfields for the bleep43 night at Public Life. This level of commitment is what is expected, nay demanded, of London's 313 subscribers. :) It's not every weekend you get to see upwards of four 313 members playing within a four-mile radius over two separate nights! RE: [313] 313 Party Live set
The strict definition of a 313 night is that there's no off-topic conversation, no spam, and at least one vitriolic argument about Richie Hawtin before the last record is played :) No, seriously, the last one was more like a pseudo-313 night what with the short notice and the large numbers of "normal people" who staggered in off the street. It was fun to see 313ers' music selections serve as a backdrop for a bunch of people's Saturday night in London, but it didn't have the feeling of cohesion that the Public Life night had. So I am quite up for doing another night at Public Life, hopefully in November sometime (although not the 30th, as WIDE and also Ultimate Base are apparently planning to do nights on that day - planning in advance here!). I have been in talks with a *very* well known, *very* old school figure on the UK electronic scene and am currently trying to persuade him to come and play. I can't say who it is, but I think most people would agree that it would be a coup if we could get him on the decks :) More news as it comes in! [313] Fw: DEAF
- Original Message - From: Richard Brophy Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 10:24 AM Subject: DEAF Dear All, Sorry for the circular nature of this email. Here's some information about the first Dublin Electronic Art Festival (DEAF), launching today in Dublin. I have also included a schedule of acts confirmed to date, many more will be added in the run up to the festival. It's the first event of its kind to take place in Ireland and any support would be greatly appreciated - news stories, interviews etc. DEAF is an independently run festival. If you need any more information, just mail me back. Thanks Richard Brophy DEAF DUBLIN ELECTRONIC ART FESTIVAL OCTOBER SUNDAY 20th - OCTOBER MONDAY 28TH 2002 This October sees the first Dublin Electronic Arts Festival (DEAF) take place. DEAF will bring together Irish and international record labels, music promoters, musicians and visual designers to host various stages and showcases over 9 days, from October 20th to 29th inclusive. DEAF will become an essential annual event on the global calendar for electronic visual designers and music enthusiasts and will take place in numerous venues, bars and galleries throughout the city centre area. Over the past ten years electronic music has moved from its origins in Detroit and Berlin and its influence resonates through popular culture, evident in fashion, technology and the visual arts. Dublin was prematurely heralded as the 'dance capital of Europe', but in the intervening years has developed a flowering indigenous scene and currently boasts a healthy and diverse cross-section of underground producers, DJs and artists engaged in a never-ending succession of exciting projects. As such, the Irish scene has gained the confidence it needed to carve out its own identity and the time is right to provide a focus for this creative energy, to place Ireland's burgeoning scene in an international context. DEAF is the first Irish electronic music event to fully embrace these new opportunities. This first year will put Dublin on the map and will kick start an essential annual event on the global calendar for electronic music enthusiasts. DEAF will begin in IMMA featuring a collaboration with The Crash Ensemble, while other venues include The Guinness Storehouse, Ri-Ra, The Temple Bar Music Centre, 4, Dame Lane, The Crypt [Temple Theatre] and Parnell Mooneys. There will also be plenty of bar activity all week in The Thomas House, The Globe, The International Bar and Handels Bar. DEAF launches on Tuesday, September 17th in 4, Dame Lane, featuring a live performance from Dave Donoghue [D1 Recordings] and visuals from Pixelcorp, Click & Fuselage, which will offer a taste of what to expect at the festival. I've never tried this place, but it maybe a cheaper alternative. http://www.spybox.co.uk/ > > You can get those crates at The Container store here > in the US. They are made by Tucker. Re: [313] Fw: 28 SEPT. JEFF MILLS / STEVE BICKNELL...
maybe francois k was just trying to correct the balance of genre shifting between cities. durring the mid 90s in new york there seemed to be a lot of techno djs coming to new york and playing second rate garage/body and soul styled sets. it seems to have tapered off after that. but rob hood always tries to play hip hop sets in new york (or is that how he starts his sets everywhere?) james www.jbucknell.com > > 'a change is as good as a rest.. > > Very dissapointed with f.k I kmew he wasn't going to body and sould esque > but he was just banging aprt from 4 or 5 toons... > > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [313] record crates
I agree with Minto, I've been using the Container store creates since the early 90's and they have held up the best from all that I have come across. They can be seen here http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?PRODID=65121&CATID=166. Note they are stackable and have handles. I do suggest though if you pick some up you place 2 or 3 12x12 inch pieces of cardboard in the front and back of the records. This helps keep the records on the end very ridged over time. dK -Original Message- From: Minto George [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 11:19 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] record crates You can get those crates at The Container store here in the US. [313] Heading to NY next week
Hey all, I'm heading to New York next week for my honeymoon. Can anyone help me out with some good places to go out (techno, electro, house, jazz, hip hop, broken beats, whatever!!) and also for picking up records? I'll be in NY from 25th September til 4th October.
