Why is it pathetic? Some people heavily recycle their collections,
rather they are tools and not collections, as with collections, one would
generally keep.

People like to have new records and don't have a thing for old ones and
so forth. Does the amount of records one owns have a correlation to the
quality of performance that DJ could give?

You could also argue that he has the cream and none of the sh*t. I know
that in my time of buying 'techno' and 'house' or dance music records,
that I've sold about 0.25% of my records because the sound is 'tired' or
I just didn't like it.

(313) Movement '03 Reflections

2003-06-02 Thread O.L. From The Basement
I had a super time at the festival but ever since I started going in 2001 I
have always had a good time. Each festival for me has something special that
makes it unique and worthwhile. Whether its a special afterparty, a DJ set
or live performance from an artist I have heard or not heard before, or
meeting new people, there is always some aspect of each year that makes me
want to return for another year. But there is nothing more special than
hearing a Detroit artist perform/ DJ his/ her music in the birthplace of
techno. Thank you Derrick, Carl, and Kevin for keeping the festival going. I
hope that everything works out financially for them in the end so they can
bring it back next year.

Well, all that dancing - using up energy and calories - add a touch of
alcohol and maybe vitamin c-busting smoking, possibly not getting enough
sleep for 48 hours (and all this is just the 'radio version') can leave the
immune system vulnerable, plus in a place like Detroit, you need a strong
one (I understand) ... but I would happily trade anyone the experience of
being there for their sickness!

Get well soon all.

(313) Joey Beltram mp3s, swapping circle

2003-06-02 Thread Joachim Castellano
Does anyone have mp3's of Energy Flash or Mentasm? Send them to me
please!

Also, anyone interested in starting a CD swapping circle? Basically it
would involve making a compilation (mixed or unmixed) CD every month to
each member of a circle. I'd like to limit my circle to 5 or so
people. The whole point is educating each member on music or tracks
they might have missed. I don't want to limit my swapping circle to
techno either.

If anyone's interested in prog. rock (Interpol, Trans Am), IDM (Dabrye,
Casino Vs. Japan), hip hop classics, first wave detroit techno stuff,
I've got loads of that to share. So if you're interested in swapping
comp. CD's with me, let me know, and also tell me what styles/ genres
you'll be providing.

Agreed. Could it really be sarcastic? My impression is that it's just an
innocent mutation of the 'English' phrase which somehow missed the literal
sense of it.

Seems about as sarcastic or ironic as 'Irony' by Alanis Morrisette. Possibly
the least ironic song ever written!

this looks amazing (A Guy Called Gerald acid house set almost swings it

he's the same guy that had that Cosmic Twins thing advertised (for

Talking of Gerald, who else made it down to the Rocket on Friday? I have
to admit that, having turned up, I pretty much stuck in the room where
Gerald was playing an amazing set of classic house, acid and early
techno. It had actually been quite a long time since I'd heard so much
music of that style in a single set, and I was dancing like a moron!

I got the idea that Gerald is *really* on form at the moment, and I will
definitely be there next time he's playing in London.

Yeah, I stayed in the room that Gerald was playing in (even though it
was a sweatbox, some aircon would have been appreciated!). Really great
set with loads of classic chicago acid house and other early sounds.

I also thought it was a good idea to have a record stall in the place, I
bought a couple of 12"s and from what I could gather so where a lot of

Re: (313) Homelands Warning

2003-06-02 Thread Gary . Girard

I'm a bit late on this .. had a week off & been to Amsterdam since H/L.

The dogs weren't a problem at all - who would seriously use an amnesty bin
anyway ?!?
What they should have warned us about is the f*cked up scheduling! I got in
the place at about 5:30 pm & had missed Umek & most of Green Velvet
already. Umek must have played to about 4 people sitting down!!
Dave Clarke came on a 6:00pm & Mill at 8:00pm. It was pretty much over by
1:00 am - they let Christian Smith play the last two hrs until 3:00 pm -
talk about 'anti-climax!'
I just thought it was a waste of money - I was sucked in by the line-up. I
thought the sound quality was as bad as always and it was freezing at
night. Sonar is about 10 times better!!

Oh well, lesson learnt!
Amsterdam was great tho ;o)

Nope, that doesn¹t mean punters can leave planet earth whilst listening to
the likes of the Chemical Brothers, The Streets and Audio Bullys without
fear of arrest. What it means is that revellers will be faced with sniffer
dogs as they enter the site. Action will be taken against people found in
possession of illegal substances, and in addition, they may possibly be
excluded from the site by organisers. However, ?amnesty¹ bins will be
provided prior to the festival entrance, where punters will be able to

Yeah agreed - I thought it was a pretty good lineup just totally

The nerve of this guy, promoting what he claims to be one of the biggest UK

I'm sure quite a few of you remember the 313 t-shirt designs that were
voted on the eventually made into t-shirts that were sold at the Record
Time tent in '01...
was there ever another run of them? I should have picked up one then.

Has there been a second run considered or another series created?

I loved that show of talent that became wearable art.

hmmm... I disagree - there's a tiny bit of ghettotech here, but this mix is far
from standard ghettotech fair. True, he plays a lot of stuff sped up on 45,
and he mixes the tracks in and out really fast, but I don't think this style is
strictly limited to ghettotech. For one, the track selection demonstrates a
knowledge of electro that to me is very DREXCIYAN.
