'Gloria Muse' is easilly my favorite Blaze track. Otto and I each pooed
ourselves both of the two times Ron Trent played it @ DEMF '02, soon before
it was released. Also, if you have the opportunity to catch one of their
rare live performances, don't sleep. Was lucky enough to see that in NYC
this May. Really excellent, if not the most stunning 'liveness'.

PAUL ST. HILAIRE with SCION (Burial Mix/Chain Reaction - Berlin). Sat Nov
15th, two sessions, 8:30 PM/11:30pm Recombinant Labs Compound, SF

An atmospheric evening awaits the visitors to the outskirts of San
Francisco where traditional deep dub music and Berlin-style minimal techno
will intertwine. Following the international success of of the Burial Mix
Series and the "Rhythm and Sound presents Tikiman" on Chain Reaction,
Vainqueur and Substance, a.k.a. SCION, return to the Bay Area with
Dominican reggae singer PAUL ST. HILAIRE for a rare night of postmodern
electro-roots through the Surround Traffic Control audio system. Those who
witnessed the 2002 concert will testify to a truly unforgettable dubtronic
experience.

Paul (Tikiman) St. Hilaire was born in the Commonwealth of Dominica, where
he developed his vocal talents "under the supervision of his Imperial
Majesty Jah Rastafari." After moving to Berlin, he teamed up with Moritz
Von Oswald (Maurizio) and Mark Ernestus to record 'Burial Mix', a series of
12"s that materialized on the Rhythm & Sound label, a late addition to the
Basic Channel / Chain Reaction cult. While the previous recordings of
Maurizio, Vainqueur and Substance on Basic Channel blended the sound of
Detroit minimal techno with the hypnotic bass of reggae-dub, the Rhythm &
Sound productions set themselves apart by emphasizing an old school dub
aesthetic. Tikiman & Scion will perform 2 sessions (8:30 pm and 11:30 pm)
at the Recombinant Labs Compound on Saturday, November 15th . Tickets for
each of the sets are $12 at the door. Location information and additional
data will be updated at the [http://www.musork.com/recombinant] or

Seasons of love

great track !!

Lovelee dae (I really like the beloved vocal mix :-))
...and many more that I can't recall at the moment...

i like the bill withers original version better

raw

Ahem! It's a totally different song - it's not a cover version of
'Lovely Day' by Bill Withers (although it sorta borrows the title).
Sorry if someone already pointed out.

The Beloved version is sweet (although the original is still my
favourite.)

Also check the Freaks Radioactive Dub. Approriately sick!

Errrm, on a Blaze/Shelter tip, yesterday I found 'The Groove Project'
by Nick Jones on Shelter. Actually from '97, but IINM the copies
currently circulating are new pressings.

If you like jazz keys and you like house and you like Nord, have a
listen. I like this producer a lot.

LOL! I wonder what on earth your colleagues make of your music alex? Any
converts?

Speaking of TP, just heard a mix he's done of quirky Japanese pop princess Meg
- excellent stuff! Quite a mad package in fact, with mixes by TP, 313's Dennis
Desantis (also nicely done), Hiroshi Watanabe (ditto) and DJ Assault! Not quite
the remix team you might expect, but I'm told that Meg specifically requested
the DJ Assault mix! Since eveything's going a bit weird at the moment I suppose
this just fits in...

Hey, thanks for the props!

I'm just curious, though - how the hell did you get ahold of that? Is
it available now on vinyl? The advance copies I got were CDs, and I
wasn't aware that vinyl copies were going to press, or that ANY version
was available outside of Japan.

Hi guys!

Sorry to go a little off track here... I just noticed this at Undercity...
Since we're speaking about Theo Parrish and funky stuff, this is certainly a
magnificent release to watch out for!
I know it sounds really strange if I say "Battle of the year 2003", but this
an incredible compilation of Funk and breakdance edits. It's def. not
Freeland style... yaaaghhh... with all respect. It's deadly serious sh_t and
if I may say so it goes nicely into a mix of Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Futher
Details... ooo and that new Iken of course!!!
Check http://www.undercity-072.com/ud/index.php?page=schedule and see the
"Battle of the year" CD and 2x12 inch on Dominance Electricty. The page is
not up to date, because I've already received a promotional copy stating it
is already available at the Courthouse recordstore. Oooohh and of course
they show a lot more quality stuff on there too... : )

Btw Where can I get this release with those magnificent remixes? I wanna
know too!

any advice is appreciated.

Tomorrows World was a show on the BBC before Top of The Pops on Thursday's,
it used to feature the latest and greatest things in technology etc - loads
of great ideas that never got made and in 1973 it featured Kraftwerk with
their Motorway Music - playing live - I have the clip on tape - remember it
really well - I wanted one of those drum kits :)

I found plenty of tracklistings for an astonishing array of artist both 313 and
non-313 alike, but no Theo Parrish mixes. ???
What a great radio station - we need something like that in the UK?

No, The mix of Theo is not yet online on Radio Nova website.
And there are no more tracklisting of mixes recorded in this show.
And since few days, the mixes recorded on the station were no more free. You
must pay for download it. (but it's not expensive)

To see that, click on "Entrée" to open the site in the big popup ... then
click on "Musique" on top, then click on "Novamix" just below.

Tracklisting (no updated since 2002) :

Reading this reminded me of something that just happened yesterday:

Kenny Larkin got pulled over by the cops in Beverly Hills for no reason.
(Just hours before his comedy showcase at the Laugh Factory!!!)

I'll let Kenny pick up the tale from here (apologies to those on Friendster):

"I'm on Santa Monica Boulevard in a brand new white Mercedes Benz CLK 320,
that my friend let me keep for a week while she's out of town. I've driven
this route almost every day in my own cars (BMW, Porsche), and never had a
problem. But, guess what happens? I get pulled over by the Beverly Hills
 Police!!

I'm shocked because I wasn't speeding, traffic is heavy, my seatbelt is on,
blah, blah... The cop approaches the car and says, "Your driving is fine,
but I don't know about the registration. Can I see a copy of your insurance,
registration, and driver's license?" I say, "Well, this isn't my car.
A friend let me borrow it for the week. She didn't leave her registration,
or insurance with me. Oh, here it is, and here is my license." Now, mind
you, I'm wearing sweaty, workout clothes. I have on a black skull cap, and
I'm totally unshaven. To him, I'm lookin' like, well... you get the picture.

He goes back to his bike to check everything, while I'm chillin' in the car.
Ten minutes go by, and I look in my rear view mirror to see what's taking so
long. When I look up again, I see this paddy wagon pull up behind me!!! The
other cop gets out, confers with his colleague for another 10 minutes. I'm
thinking, what's going on? So, finally the dude walks back to the car and
says, ``What's your social security number?'', I said ``Why?'' He says,
``Your driving privledges are suspended in the State of California. You have
a warrant out for your arrest from San Bernadino county stemming from an
unpaid speeding ticket you received last year. They sent you a notice to
appear, and you didn't, so. Step out of the car, place your hands behind
your head.'' I almost passed out on the spot!!!

Boy, I wish there was someone there taking a picture, just so I could see the
look on my face when that cop put those handcuffs on me in front of full-on
rush hour traffic. For those who don't know me, I am the squarest man you
 will ever know. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. But, here I
am in the back of a paddy wagon about to go to jail, on the biggest nite of
my comedy career!! Who did I screw over in my previous life?? I'm sitting
in the back of the paddy wagon, while they search my friend's car, and I'm
hoping she doesn't have anything in her car that might "complicate" matters,
but they find nothing. So, they take me to JAIL, and book me, fingerprint me,
take mug shots, put me in prison overalls, the whole nine... I'm in shock by
this time, because I learn that if I don't make bail ($5,000 cash), I will be
staying with them for 2 days, and then transported up to San Bernadino to
their jail, until my court date. ``What! But I have a show in 3 hours!''
``Not if you don't make bail buddy.'' So, I had to call my parents, who both
flew in from Alabama, and Michigan to see their son perform at this world
famous comedy club, to bail me out of jail."

A year ago, the same thing happened to me. I got pulled over for speeding
and, it turned out, due to an unpaid parking ticket in SF (!) from years
ago, I'd actually had my license suspended (and didn't know about it, 'cos
they sent it to my previous address and the forwarding had long since expired)
and I, too, had a warrant for my arrest.

Did I get carted off to jail? Did I get fingerprinted, mug shot'ed, put
in prison overalls like Kenny Larkin did?

No. I got sent home on my own recognizance.

I'm disgusted at what happened to Kenny. Only in Amerika.

Reading this reminded me of something that just happened yesterday:

Kenny Larkin got pulled over by the cops in Beverly Hills for no reason.
(Just hours before his comedy showcase at the Laugh Factory!!!)

I'll let Kenny pick up the tale from here (apologies to those on
Friendster):

"I'm on Santa Monica Boulevard in a brand new white Mercedes Benz CLK
320,
that my friend let me keep for a week while she's out of town. I've
driven
this route almost every day in my own cars (BMW, Porsche), and never
had a
problem. But, guess what happens? I get pulled over by the Beverly
Hills
 Police!!

I'm shocked because I wasn't speeding, traffic is heavy, my seatbelt
is on,
blah, blah... The cop approaches the car and says, "Your driving is
fine,
but I don't know about the registration. Can I see a copy of your
insurance,
registration, and driver's license?" I say, "Well, this isn't my car.
A friend let me borrow it for the week. She didn't leave her
registration,
or insurance with me. Oh, here it is, and here is my license." Now,
mind
you, I'm wearing sweaty, workout clothes. I have on a black skull
cap, and
I'm totally unshaven. To him, I'm lookin' like, well... you get the
picture.

He goes back to his bike to check everything, while I'm chillin' in
the car.
Ten minutes go by, and I look in my rear view mirror to see what's
taking so
long. When I look up again, I see this paddy wagon pull up behind
me!!! The
other cop gets out, confers with his colleague for another 10 minutes.
 I'm
thinking, what's going on? So, finally the dude walks back to the car
and
says, ``What's your social security number?'', I said ``Why?'' He
says,
``Your driving privledges are suspended in the State of California.
You have
a warrant out for your arrest from San Bernadino county stemming from
an
unpaid speeding ticket you received last year. They sent you a notice
to
appear, and you didn't, so. Step out of the car, place your hands
behind
your head.'' I almost passed out on the spot!!!

Boy, I wish there was someone there taking a picture, just so I could
see the
look on my face when that cop put those handcuffs on me in front of
full-on
rush hour traffic. For those who don't know me, I am the squarest man
you
 will ever know. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. But,
here I
am in the back of a paddy wagon about to go to jail, on the biggest
nite of
my comedy career!! Who did I screw over in my previous life?? I'm
sitting
in the back of the paddy wagon, while they search my friend's car, and
I'm
hoping she doesn't have anything in her car that might "complicate"
matters,
but they find nothing. So, they take me to JAIL, and book me,
fingerprint me,
take mug shots, put me in prison overalls, the whole nine... I'm in
shock by
this time, because I learn that if I don't make bail ($5,000 cash), I
will be
staying with them for 2 days, and then transported up to San Bernadino
to
their jail, until my court date. ``What! But I have a show in 3
hours!''
``Not if you don't make bail buddy.'' So, I had to call my parents,
who both
flew in from Alabama, and Michigan to see their son perform at this
world
famous comedy club, to bail me out of jail."

A year ago, the same thing happened to me. I got pulled over for
speeding
and, it turned out, due to an unpaid parking ticket in SF (!) from years
ago, I'd actually had my license suspended (and didn't know about it,
'cos
they sent it to my previous address and the forwarding had long since
expired)
and I, too, had a warrant for my arrest.

Did I get carted off to jail? Did I get fingerprinted, mug shot'ed, put
in prison overalls like Kenny Larkin did?

No. I got sent home on my own recognizance.

I'm disgusted at what happened to Kenny. Only in Amerika.

Anyone have a current contact for Mr. Carson?

If so, hit me back privately.

Thanks much.

2003-11-06 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight

g*d damn racial profiling -

How in the hell could they tell the registration was bad? If his driving is
fine they should not have any reason to run a check.
They see a scruffy looking black man driving through BH in a nice car and
decide to run a check on the license - as far as I know there is nothing on
the outside of a car that gives any info on the registration - if the tabs
are good then there's nothing wrong.
So, there is no way for them to know - from the outside of the car - that
Kenny's license is suspended. Obviously there wasn't anything wrong with
the registration because the cop never mentioned it again (according to his
story). The issue was then his license suspension - not the registration.
They have too much power.

(313) decisions, decisions ?

2003-11-06 Thread Chris Anglesey

Hola 313 Peepz,

I'm in a bit of a quandry. For the first time in what seems like eons
we have 2 good house/techno do's in Manchester, UK on the same night.
Thing is, i'm not sure which one to go for - Pepe Bradock or Joe Clausell ?

Don't know much about Joe's choice of tunes (but have heard that he's
supposed to be a fantastic d.j), have heard a mix CDR of Pepe's and although
his music selection is great (funk, disco, house, detroit stuff etc.) I get the
feeling
that he's more a producer than a d.j.

Has anyone seen these two in action ?

Chris.

seen both...i'd take mr.clausell over pepe anytime.sets a great mood and
puts a lot of energy and passion into his performance...not very 313 mind!
