(313) SF Spam - BassSubMission October 2nd

2004-09-30 Thread James Hurlbut
For the bay area techno freeks - all night warehouse jam this Saturday
after the Love Parade. No big names, only local bass lovers. We'll be
clocking in around 150 bpm for most of the night. I'm going to play a set
of accelerated funk/techno around 2AM with a healthy selection of 313
related music (albeit scandalously pitched up!).

Sean Deason maybe?

He was in the buff. With a banjo covering his knob.

Sounds good.

Recently found 'Colin Dale Presents ...' 3x12 " which has 'Mystical Rhythms'
which is sweet. Add that to his V-Phorms stuff like 'Fragments' on Native,
and new stuff would be v welcome indeed.

One thing: did he ever release on Soma? Can't see anything on discogs under
his name. Interesting, since he's from Glasgow and sort of from that era.

Not sure Ken-doh Nagasaki my wrestling friend.

Although I heard one by him the other week he'd probably rather forget
about.

It was from '96, it was just in a pile of stuff my mate had in his shop,
and I saw his name on it so thought I'd give it a listen. It was the worst
'tekno' kinda thing I've ever heard in my life. Must have been at least 150
bpm, sort of like a hardcore record, but without the breaks. Ravetastic.
feckin bag of s**te. Glad he's got into some good stuff tho, very much
looking forward to this LP.

got a promo copy of the fourth soloaction release
by Shed again - one lush ambient piece
and twice dancefloor craziness
with his remarkable beat programming
kinda shake, with lush strings, melodies,
spaced out things

next to that, the first two releases on sound architecture
are juicy as well - pretty dancefloor,
but as well some more quiet tracks

also on this sub label of Merck, called Narita
third release - there's a sampler of four tracks
one track really stands out! by Aii (??)

ep worth to buy only for this track

blasting Drexciya into Softcell as loud as he could onto Oxford Rd. Funny!
There was loadsa 313 action down oxford rd last night..!

Duncan played the Chaplin Band so he could go to the bog (special 10 minute

Why do we appologize for posting a party or appearance from a d.j.I
don't think of it as spam.

I love to see where these guys are playing and learning about different

this one has been bootlegged as well and with a sound quality so poor you
have to boost your gains and eq's to their maximum level to hear some music.
I never experienced such a bat pressing, never...

The pressing on of the relics lp was not 10 times as good imo.

Hmm.

It's so odd that they are so bad really. I mean, obviously they've took
them from the records, but you should still be able to get a decent-ish
pressing from something recorded from a record.

I mean, not that good, but not THAT bad either...

(313) Buzz bootleg/repress - what's the skinny?

2004-09-30 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight
Well, yeah. That's my point. If it's known by anyone if whether these are
bootlegs I imagine the good folks at Submerge would.
So, how was it discovered that these are bootlegs, besides the fact that
Buzz isn't in business? If they are bootlegs then why is Submerge selling
them? Have they given up the "Don't buy bootlegs" motto just to cash in on
the sales of these?

also, it seems that practically *every* store in the US and those I've
checked in the UK, Netherlands (including Clone), Germany (incl. Hard Wax),
etc. are carrying these and they are not listing them as bootlegs but
represses. Looks like they've got themselves a nice distribution deal set
up and they've got enough production capability to get at least a few
copies to every DJ shop in the world. Not to mention they are pressing up
not just one Buzz release but a number of them with artwork and all -
however crappy the mastering/pressings are.

So - what the f*ck is going on?
Either the entire dance music community has had the wool pulled over its
eyes or these are legit (and someone got their info wrong about them being
bootlegs)

yep - had a listen to it as well. Terrible sound - what you'd expect from a
bootleg. If it was a bootlegged movie you'd be watching the back of

not that I want them to make a better bootleg mind you - I'd much rather

i'm all for people partying in the streets of sf, but
looking at the lineups, it's a lot of the usual
suspects who play here every week, with a few notable
exceptions (stewart walker!!!)

he hasnt actually put out that much stuff that im aware of. i have
the godson 1 but not 2, and i have the UK release of the soul edge
12". plus the tunes he did on the beatdown comp, and the first 2 3
chairs joints, and the one on abstract fusion 2, plus the rmx (i
think huckaby did it?) of his tune on the beatdown rmxes 12".
pretty much everything he's done is one of my favorite things by
him : )

i guess if i had to pick, id choose godfather 1. great 12", and
one of the least popular KDJs.

(313) great definition of techno

24. FIRESTARTER
PRODIGY

Who'da thunk techno -- that girly stepchild of rap and punk --
would ever hold a place in the sports world? This tune knocked
down locker room doors with punishing, bouncy bass; soon
rave-goers and running backs were mimicking the Brit accent: "I'm
a fiya-stahta, twisted fiya-stahta"

hahaha.

Heya

Bone's tracks are better in my opinion, but it does sound like lohie is
taking a cue from Bone..which is a good thing.

Also, I wanted to mention that Orlando Voorn has re-released basic
bastard 4, and has now officially released basic bastard 5!
And...(drumroll) ... Los Hermanos 5 is now available through Submerge (
on 7 inch)

Did I mention the new hieroglyphic being samples! More great music,
you can hear samples at dancetracks.com

...
...
..
.
you still reading? go get these records! ;)

yeh don't get me wrong they're both super dope. I wrote that last
message as the second track was coming in. that release is my favorite
from bone so far. having given the rest a listen, I'm not as keen on
the dj lohie (who is he?) as i am on the two bone releases, but it
still kills 98% of recent techno activity imo. but that's just me.
