Hmm... i think i messed my mind. I did a confusion with the tracks... i was sure to know this last track when i heard it, but i had no idea it was Don Carlos. Plus, i definitively didnt know it switches to this kind of piano solo ! (313) RE: Japan
Hi Alex Yeah Womb is pretty big, and isn't the Liquid room still open? Anyway my recommendation is to go to either Disk Union or Cisco and just pick up some flyers. I remember seeing some bigger clubs on them.. but I can't recall right now what they were. I put up some info here http://www.technotourist.org/modules.php?op=modloadname=phpBB_14file=indexaction=viewtopictopic=971 Yeah I don't know any mags that do reviews in English, but I know of Shift www.shift.jp.org which is a design mag which is bilingual and has lots of links etc. so there might be something there that is electronic music related, but not necessarily techno related. Japan would be more fun if you know someone, but i think you can get around ok and it wouldn't be that much diff to begin say, in another foreign country where english isn't the first language. Most people know a bit of english (even if they don't speak it well or pretend not to) and signs are in english and it's easy to get around. The language barriers are very profound. Disk Union is the best store that I could find and even had a wall dedicated to Movement. The Tower Records in Shibuya was great for electronic music and urban and soul. There is an English language mag Metropolis which is more lifestyle. I like Remix magazine but can only look at it and is probably best for electronic reviews. I found it frustrating not being able to converse, though I tried with my dodgy phrase book. I didn't go out much, stayed in reading Thomas Hardly which didn't do much to alleviate my spirits. Wonderful country, but would have been more fun if I'd had company methinks! One night I went to a club-cum-design store called Sputnik which was great. It's one of those days where I just rattle on to myself. Oh well. Anyway, can anyone help me? Have you ever been to Japan? What are the music magazines that do techno reviews in Japan? What are the large clubs there? I notice that club womb seems to have been going for a while. Are there other big techno clubs? Can anyone help? Thanks! Alex ## Notice: The information contained in this electronic mail is intended solely for the addressee(s) and may be confidential and/or privileged. http://www.jetgroove.com/news.html October 9, 2004 Tuesday this week October 5th JetGroove the biggest on-line underground music provider has launched its website. On the website it offers alternative music downloads in mp3 format made by independent record labels and artists. During first three days JetGroove received an enormous amount of attention from users, record labels, artists, authors and publishers. And this attention brought some contradictions to the light of music community. The music community was disappointed at some parts of our website and made some wrong assumptions. We wanted to clear up all misunderstandings that arose so we want to explain our position how our website is organized and business is led. JetGroove is the unique project that we created to give the worldwide exposure to independent record labels and artists, producing alternative music. The way our website organized is: First part of the website - music, that is represented by record labels who already signed contracts with JetGroove. These tracks are available to be purchased and downloaded. Second part of the website - information about music that is placed on the website for promotion of independent record labels and artists. These tracks could not be purchased or downloaded. However they could be put ON HOLD. As soon as this happens, record label or artist to whom this track belongs is contacted with the offer of doing business with JetGroove. This greatly increases the exposure for many of the record labels. The line that JetGroove is going to continue to follow is: LEGAL SALES ONLY. The project was created to give independents a good chance of being known in the world, and earning money, not to make them suffer again as they do from p2p systems. And the least thing JetGroove planned to do is to violate rights of record labels, publishers, artists or authors. JetGroove officially states that if you are not interested to have your tracks on www.jetgroove.com, you should contact JetGroove immediately and all the information we have about your tracks will be taken off the website ASAP. Welcome to JetGroove where Grooving is Living ___ interesting - I like the part about And this attention brought some contradictions to the light of music community. I wonder what these contradictions are? Let's assume that Jetgroove is doing what they are saying they are (for the sake of the argument). Then Jetgoove is trying to act as a rep for the record labels and artists without the label's permission, possibly f*cking up the labels business if the label has an exclusive distribution deal with another organization. IF Jetgroove is laying their cards on the table - then they know absolutely nothing about the recording industry and how to operate within it. Too bad you don't need a license to drive this thing. Re: (313) Jetgroove responds
JetGroove is the unique project LOL, right. seems to me they are borrowing the strong-arm tactics of US junk mailers, i.e. ... if you don't send back this card saying you don't want our magazines, we're going to mail you magazines, which you will then have to pay for, and if you don't pay for them we will send collection agencies after you or my recent fav was from a credit card company - they actually sent me the card, a real card, with a letter that said I had to call them if I didn't want the card, otherwise it would become activated. this is absurd! tactics like this have not stood up to attack, but who knows ... this is international space, where the rules are different? in theory their idea could seem like a good one, but the manner with which they've approached the implementation is highly unprofessional. almost seems like they're banking on the idea that some artists/labels won't call them, won't find out ... and they'll offer their music for sale anyways, thinking perhaps someday when the artist/label finds out they'll have to fork over the moola, but by then JetGroove might be gone. *sigh* lisa [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: http://www.jetgroove.com/news.html October 9, 2004 Tuesday this week October 5th JetGroove the biggest on-line underground music provider has launched its website. (313) My new flavour of the month (read: obsession)
Time for me to wax over-enthusiastic about the latest Henrik Schwarz on Sunday Music. While 'Chicago' is a totally original rework of a classic, his remixes of Wei Chi and Induceve are outstanding examples of how to show your mastery of multiple genres in single outings, and 'Marvin' is another contender for record of the year based purely on it's distillation and tweaked-to-hellness, I think this new one has it all. Massive Basic Channel (or perhaps Convextion is a better comparrison) ultra-delayed synths on top of ever-evolving David-Alvarado-on-Peacefrog-style pads and subtle breaks beneath a dp house beat. The man's sense of timing and space are impeccable. What's more, the record comes with an authentication code to check out mp3s on the site! Future grooves, future business. I'm throughly impressed. http://www.sunday-music.com Anything else essential by him I may have missed? (313) Other records floating my boogie board - 20 second reviews
My investments in electronic music's future, trying not to repeat those already discussed aplenty: Blake Baxter : Poetry And Rhythm - Session Two (Nice covers of Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence) Etiop: Sub + Sub (Recognition Poland) 12: (Newcomer on Jacek Sienkiewicz' Recognition label. 'Mysticism' has a kinda-acidic bassline, merged with detuned pads and slightly-clicky beats) Solo Action: Opulence (Solo Action Germany) (*PROPER* techno. All three tracks killer) Analog Fingerprints : Age of Hypocrisy (New Marco Passirani on Submerge-affiliated label, churning out classic Detroit and full-on rave sounds. All four track = detonation) Kirk Degiorgio : EP3 - (Four tracks of kinda-slow Detroitiotechno) Duplex 100 : Extrapoliert (MJ goes UR) Horror Inc. : I Plead Guilty (Akufen goes deep dark piano) Karizma : Strings Emotional EP (Interesting 'deep burnt'-style strings with a kinda UR synth taking over the second half. A bit tracky, but good) Sebo K : Changes EP (Drum 'n bass producer doing acid and old school Chicago stuffs) Ultradyne : The Privilege Of Sacrifice (Sinister stuff Alex! I totally scared a hungover friend with it Sunday morning. Some of the synths remind me a bit of Skinny Puppy, which is a big compliment in my book) DJ Rels : Theme For A Broken Soul (Madlib and Peanut Butter Wolf go broken beat, and end up sounding something like Theo Parrish were he to do the same. A few gems on here, solid throughout) Umod : Enter The Umod (Differently broken beats from Domu. 'For Funk's Sake' and 'What Melody' are sick, particularly the latter, which has as much attention to detail as any track I've hear. Domu's stil on a roll. The 12 of 'Tromboline' is also worth getting for the flip) Various Artists : Del Alma Sampler Vol.1 (New on Amalgama, featuring a tasty Titonton stuff that may be atyically broken enough to not scare away those who don't usually feel broken beat stuff) 808 State : Prebuild (Ancient rarities unearthed on Rephlex. Particularly enjoying 'The Ride', 'Sex Mechanic' and 'Automatic') Population One : Earth 2976 (Old Terrence Dixon reissue on Metroplex. All three tracks nice. Crappy recording or pressing but still playable) Mike L Lanoiraude : Mystic River EP (Sounds like a Charles Webster Remix. It is a Charles Webster remix!) Bjork : Medulla (Mostly acapella album featuring Icelandic choruses and Razell, formerly of The Roots. A must for fans) Ame : Mifune / Shiro (Two excellent new tracks on Sonar Kollektiv, the first reminding me a bit of Attend 1 without being unoriginal) Ethnic Heritage Ensemble : Running In The Streets (Another Charles Webster Remix. A slow builder. Really tasty if that's your thing) Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: (313) RE: Japan
I found it very hard, a lot of my young buddies studied Japanese here but my generation did French and German. There's minimal signage and the Lonely Planet book I had was misleading on that. The thing is the script is hard to look up. You definitely need a contact. I meant to visit the Imperial Palace but got lost in the subway. ;) Also things like finding an ATM was hard as Cirrus is not universal. You need to carry cash around in Japan. But it is a wonderful place and on my own I felt very safe there. I missed casual conversations but then I talk too much so 10 days of enforced silence may have been good for me. ;) Japan would be more fun if you know someone, but i think you can get around ok and it wouldn't be that much diff to begin say, in another foreign country where english isn't the first language.
