(313) Main Street/New Henrik Schwarz
Following on from that Main Street conversation last week, has anyone bought that new Henrik Schwarz record? I know there's a few Henrik Schwarz fans about. it's here: http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/mp3/Henrik%20Schwarz%20-%20Leave%20My%20Head%20Alone%20Brain%20Mix%202.mp3 "Mix 2" is a BIG track. Think Recloose's 'Dust' about 5bpm faster, not in sound, but in a saturday night at loads of clubs in a hands in the air type way. It sounds more 'techno' than dust, it's got a heavy early main street feel - not in style so much, more those basic channel type sounds... percussion in that mid-90's deep house type vein, vocal isn't quite as well produced as a main st record it's got a more instantly catchy driving bassline all the way through, vocal drifting in and out...and it's an instant killer.. definitely his 'biggest' track to date. he's done us all a favour as well, doing a track full of samples and parts.. build your own. ace, I'm getting to work with 'em shortly : ) not everyone's bag, and I get a funny feeling you'll be sick of it in 3 months because everbody will be playing it but check it out! alex *disclaimer, I've only had this record about 4 hours. blame me later. _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. I don't know. There weren't enough basslines on his lp for me to really get worked up about it. Good nonetheless though. And yeah, I'm that guy who didn't play "strings" cause it didn't have a bassline. For a long time at least. It's aight though 'cause sir stinx got enough to go 'round. Kamal K. The mp3 snippet on the Delsin site of the track on the compilation didn't catch my attention, maybe I should hear it full length. "Themefrom" is probably the most original track of em all. A bit on the repetative side of things, but very original. Blows the rotating assembly and the new moodymann stuff away... easily. Cheers, Maarten

looking over the Jean -Luc Ponty releases on the All Music website I'm finding the reviews don't always match up with the star rating like this review for "Individual Choice" >Even if one grumbles on principle about the reduction of spontaneity in Ponty's music >over the Atlantic years, the musical end here absolutely justifies the means. I heard one of his songs on the radio the other day (KFAI.org). Don't recall the name of the track but it was very "deep space", if you know what I mean. Ace techno prankster Fred Giannelli has delivered a multi-flavoured EP of groovy mid-Atlantic hip-swivellers that's very satisfying. Distant Gratification" offers the unsettling sensation of two machines slowly meshing together, but in a wholly unexpected way. Deeply comforting funk melodies merge with off-kilter kicks before submerging in supremely delicate acid squelches. Some say it's the missing link between Metro Area and Kraftwerk; we say it's a killer early-set track. "Delirious" is tough, electrifying, machine funk. Crucially, it re-injects disco magic into the swinging Chi-town formula, dropping monstrous minimal techno bass lines that have been pimped up in Studio 54. It's the sound of a glitter ball being hit by a sniper's laser. "Prescience" is an exemplary slice of minimal tech-funk which updates the hypnotic groove template with insect noise electronics. Major support from Roland, Fabrice Lig, Craig Richards, Tomaz, Rob Da Bank and Jack De Mareile . Radio Support Xfm, Radio 1, Filter, RTE, Juice FM, Passion, Beat 106, Schwadnick and Switch. Get on this one and twist your head!
