Re: (313) the birth of a techno fan
When Autobahn came out I remember the title track getting played on the radio all the time. Well, so often that I got sick of hearing it - shock horror! : ) I think you may find that lots of people from my generation in Germany will know Kraftwerk. ; ) On Monday, Jun 6, 2005, at 21:29 Europe/London, Robert Taylor wrote: I think most people in Europe are aware of them, but only to the extent that if you mention them to a non-cognoscenti, they tend to raise their eyebrows and make stiff armed movements and say 've ar de robots'. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 06 June 2005 18:52 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) the birth of a techno fan Indeed. It seems like there were fewer international tourists this year. This will be the first year there's no coverage in Australian media too which is a shame - and it's not for want of trying. (313) Kraftwerk in LA
Overall a great well rounded show. Some very inspired moments: 'Man Machine' at the opening of the show, the 'Tour de France' montage and 'Autobahn' were all stellar. Show was in the middle of the Hollywood Hills, nature, trees etc, beautiful, clear night. A very mellow and respectful crowd, lots of little kids, families etc. My first time seeing Kraftwerk. You know, some things you just have to see. I can't tell if I feel obliged to say 'it was a good show', y'know the way your kinda obliged to like 'Revenge of The Sith' just because it's 'Star Wars' and you invested 30 years of your life! Well, y'know, it's Kraftwerk...whadyaa gonna do? Technically impressive, some live, warm elements could be detected, some very inspired moments. Overall: B+ Peace from So Cal.

Re: (313) Delirium Films
Uhh, looking through their web site I can't tell if they had something to do with it or not. I'm not real clear on how they worked out the video/visualizations this year. All I know is that it was all last second. I did what I did on a volunteer basis. From what I can tell from their web site, they produced the 313 techno doc on Atkins/May/KMS and they've done several music videos. They don't say anything about the festival though. ~Thorin Svagr, Jodie wrote: Hi Thorin... Can you tell me if Delirium Films headed up the screens again this year? Jodie

Oh, maybe I didn't explain those very well. I didn't actually VJ the jumbotron at any point. That was probably Gabe running it in that picture. I made the animation you saw on the screen though. I'd received an email from Delirium a week before the fest. offering me a paid position this year, but with only one weeks notice it wasn't worth me trying to book a flight from the UK... I've been curious to see if they actually ended up running it... seeing that you didn't get paid makes me glad I didn't book the ticket!! Delirium ran the Video two years ago, I was the Video TD for the High Tech Soul Stage... thoroughly enjoyed working with an animator like yourself... but annoyed with how my payment of footage for my reel never came through bastards!!! Francois K, Carl Craig The Detroit Experiment, Grand Wizard Theodore... sigh... memories are good, but payment would've been better... Derrick May's group never thought to get the artists to sign releases... yet they promised us footage... idiots!! Now theres 100's of tapes from 2003 sitting in a box waiting... hopefully one day a lawyer will get those tapes released to the artists (and to the video TDs and camera ops)... sigh... Jodie

Sounds awesome! Thanks. This stuff's like food for me right now. Y'all don't even know. Kamal K. Craig Huckaby accompanied them all on congas. Mike played deep melodic, jazzy house and a few classics for about 2 hours. Osunlade only played for about an hour but really rocked it--took the crowd to an orgasmic peak and back down. He played Cantos... off El Primer Ano and the new one--5th Dimension--otherwise nothing I recognized. Ron Trent played mostly hypnotic afro-funk, taking off from where Osunlade left off. Eventually I left to check out Suburban Knight in the main room at around 5am. It was a very good night of music in a nice space. and I heard on the radio this morning that there might be a high-speed train in the works between here and Chicago - with a station in downtown St. Paul MN just a few minutes from my house. wish they would have thought of that sooner.
