 que?

Mu is Mutsumi Kanamori, Maurice Fulton's other half:

http://www.discogs.com/artist/MU

A really crazy Japanese (?) lady from Sheffield UK (?) but often seen in
this town. Over the last few years, since hooking up with her (while DJing
here I think) and relocating to the UK he's mostly been doing music with
her. I've got mixed feelings about this as I'm a fan of him but her stuff
isn't always to my taste (she sounds a bit like a very demented Bjork!) so I
can't help wondering what we might have missed that he'd have done if
still solo. Ah well hopefully he's enjoying himself. His DJing is always
top notch (though I did a double take last time I saw him as, as well as
only spinning CDs, he was using tiny in-ear headphones which made it look
like he didn't have any, making me wonder what was on those CDs!).

Re: (313) Juan Atkins Up For A Grammy

2006-01-17 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight

yep - that's correct.

here's the publishing info on it

LOSE CONTROL (Legal Title) BMI Work #7580774
Songwriter/Composer Current Affiliation CAE/IPI #

ATKINS JUAN OWEN BMI 447768507
DAVIS RICHARD DELANO BMI 130424032
ELLIOTT MELISSA A ASCAP 335960842
FREEMAN ISAAC III BMI 347992315
HUDSON CURTIS LEE BMI 79307651

Publishers
BIG COLORADO MUSIC BMI 475656807
DEEP SPACE MUSIC BMI 120139525
WARNER-TAMERLANE PUBLISHING CO BMI 185314175

damn, that would be one expensive track to license
five writers and three publishers!

Juan still owns publishing on it - at least part of it
I might be wrong but I think Fantasy records set up Deep Space Music
(publishing) with Juan Atkin Richard Davis to handle the publishing for
Cybotron's Clear
Fantasy, of course, gets a cut of any earnings.

Even if he sold the publishing rights he'd still be getting money from
the songwriting rights. (royalties are usually split 50% between the
owner of the publishing rights and the songwriter, if the publishing
rights are owned by somebody else that is, correct me if I'm wrong!)

If you like Nina Hagen, the idea of Björk hopped up on sugar and caffeine,
a touch of Cyndi Lauper, LCD Soundsystem, and maybe some Polysics thrown in
for just that bit of huh? then you might like Mu.

loads of fun if taken from that approach

Thanks for the link and the recording. Out of curiosity, was this
a laptop live set, or were there any hardware synths/sequencers being used?

Cheers,

Dave
