Re: (313) DEMF 2006: To Go Or Not To Go?
I had to miss last year and will miss again this year. I am broke. But even if I had the money, I just find travelling to the US too stressful these days. I don't see me going until there's a change of government policy. The fact that I work in media makes it v awkward to go into the US even on holiday. It's the only country that makes media get a visa to cover things for outside press and they've toughened it up so much that the small papers I work for can't help me and it's just too difficult. You go to Europe and Japan and Australia it's easy, you're greeted. In Melbourne they even have programs for visiting journos which includes people to take you to cool clubs and venues and so on. It's hard when I am going on a holiday and possibly writing on it - the US customs don't have a category for that. We've made enquiries here and it's just too difficult. Re: (313) Poetry To Music
Coo, yep, got Ursula but thinking more of poetry put to music, or music created around the poem, as opposed to spoken word where in Ursula's case the poetry is written to music. This RADA CD they have put Shakespeare's sonnets to music - mind, there's one Kit Marlowe in there. Some are straight readings by various RADA grads like Robert Lindsay, Ioan Gruffudd, etc. There seems to be a bit of Poe used in music - Lou Reed did an album and then there's that Propaganda song. I think it's an interesting idea, quite difficult, but way cool. I was thinking, could you out Byron to music, that kind of thing? Re: (313) DEMF 2006: To Go Or Not To Go?
Yeah I've spent years promoting US music and culture, so it just gets me upset. It marrs the experience. I'm the very person they should be encouraging to come over. I understand that they may need to be vigilant but the assumption that there is something amiss, I find unpleasant and stressful. It seems arbitrary. RE: FW: (313) So anyway... I bought some music recently
-Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 21 April 2006 15:53 To: 313@Hyperreal.Org Subject: FW: FW: (313) So anyway... I bought some music recently I really like this even if it has been slated on here [now who could have done that :-) ] However for me the vocal doesn't work - not cos of the rap but it's that chorus from hell effect DC has used too many times on the response that ruins it. I really wish they'd left it off one side (the second being preferred as that seems to get more Schwarzy if you know what I mean). I know exactly whatchoo mean about the Schwartyness of the B-side, but for whatever reason I think the A-side comes together better. I also like the devlish over-chorused effect. It reminds me of Derrick Carter's mix on the Back2Bacics 'Cut the Crap' 3x-mix-CD for whatever distant reason. NOW WHAT ABOUT THOSE JAKE SIENKIEWICZ CLIPS??? stop arguing about the Movement line up for 5 mins and help a chap out Sorry about the slow reply there. Just back from holiday in Madrid (which was quite good I might add, and Reinhardt Voigt played a few excellent songs the only night I went out, along side some pretty good stuff, along side a couple of complete thow-away tunes, and included 'Where We At', which was the first time I'd heard it loud, but I left while it was playing because the place was too full and I was done)... so apologies for the slow reply, here's the link: http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/203374-01.htmhighlight=sienkiewicz. :) BTW, if you ever want to further deplete Juno's bandwidth, you can search out of stock items by using the advanced search, or by searching for an artist and then scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page and then including out of stock items as well.
