that will do ok in clubs, but its not my thing.

ps, not that judging by an mp3 is entirely fair, but the mastering job on

No

First I thought he was German and now I find out he is from the burbs of

to be honest though, there was good reason to be skeptical after some
of the bookings last year. and theres still more than enough room for
them to screw this year's up. but if they keep this kind of approach
to their bookings, i think theyll be greatly rewarded.

A good thing, yes.
It's always a great time and you can't please everyone.
Go - or don't.
Can't see all the falderal when the lineup isn't fully announced nor
inevitable changes made. There's always bickering over the lineup (I
have my favorite years as well) and it always means the same thing in
the end, in my ears. Of course the lineup is important, but the fest is
more than that (easy for me to say it, I realize, as it's a 25 minute
drive for me...).

but theyre going back to more of what the festival was all about when
it attracted that worldwide crowd. it needs to be something special,
something that is special because it is in detroit. having minimal
superstar x and rave superstar y might bring you in the local rave and
hipster crews, but people who need to pay $1000+ just to get to
detroit are not going to be impressed by those kinds of things. i
think with this kind of lineup and this much advance word, they will
definitely be able to get that worldwide recognition that made the
earlier incarnations of the festival such a big deal.

yeah, i mean i would most likely be going unless they really had
nothing good at all, but it is relatively easy for me to get there.
and im sure things will change, but the difference between what theyve
revealed so far and what they had last year definitely shows some
change in booking philosophy. im sure there will be some weak stuff
added (there always is!) but right now im feeling good that theyll
have more good stuff added as well!

Hmmm...those first few years were a LOT more eclectic than anything I
see (Autechre, Theo...Tortoise!) here. I'm not sure if we are hearkening
back in that sense, anyway. And I'd wager a lot more than who's there
goes into who travels. Like money. I know I'd never be able to afford it
if I had to fly to it and book a room. I'm betting many others are in
the same boat.
Anyway, agreed - it looks hopeful. I just don't think we should pee in
that direction before we know what's up.

I admit:
I'd go if I hated half of what was there and focus on the other half.

yeah they had good stuff like 4 hero and whatnot as well. compared to
how relatively limited last year's scope was (aside from nitzer ebb,
not exactly my first choice for non-dance artists! ) we're doing
better. though i think it would be hard for anyone to match carl's
musical selections in general, so holding anyone to those expectations
might be a losing proposition!

true, but the dollar is now madly weak compared to the pound and the

If I was driving in, I'd start checking the outlying burbs for a Red

minute frive from Novi to Hart Plaza...

j

I can't even afford it this year and I'm only a full days drive away (3
states). They jack the prices on hotels and more than half are already
booked so no chance on staying anywhere near Hart Plaza. We could fly but
that would probably be more expensive even with my miles available.

There is enough there already for me to be excited though and if I can find
a cheaper means of staying there ($195 per night? In Detroit??) I might go.

Yes, some of last year was awful (my ole buddy Donald Glaude

On the other hand, looking back through the list, Louie Vega
(oh my!), Mike Clark, our own Fred G, Rob Hood, the Orb, Nico
Marks, the Blaze guys, Tortured Soul, Neil Landstrumm's completely
mental mix, Donnacha Costello, our own Clark Warner, and a
stunning industrial set from Adam X.

And I missed Josh Wink, who amazed at least Plaslaiko which

Not such a bad year. It was too dam hot though.

id add carl craig, mike huckaby, john arnold, dan bell, and the ghetto

the main difference between last year and previous years for me at
