Why do I associate that name with cheese to be avoided at all costs? This is even whilst knowing I have not heard anything by him? I spent most of the night on the dancefloor. No regrets. Dirtybird 006 Claude Vonstroke - Beware of the bird is a brilliant release. But I am a sucker for that sound anyways, especially the stuff coming out on Audiomatique right now. First I thought he was German and now I find out he is from the burbs of Detroit. But I guess Barclay Crenshaw does not exactly roll off the tongue like Claude Vonstroke. cTp -Original Message- From: Cyclone Wehner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 10:43 PM To: Svagr, Jodie Cc: Placid; list 313 Subject: Re: (313) Claude VonStroke I looked him up on imdb - he was location manager for Batman Robin or something! Also some 313 types may like the Spirit Catcher album Night Vision on Ralph Lawson's label - it's the kind of Detroit style tech-house Slam used to do. I don't care at all for the vocal tracks, a bit generic, but tracks like Motown Spring, Roller Coaster, Space Crash, ie the first 3, were very worthwhile.

Re: (313) demf schedule
I'm not sure that pleasing the few to whom this will make a difference qualifies as a 'great reward'. A good thing, yes. It's always a great time and you can't please everyone. Go - or don't. Can't see all the falderal when the lineup isn't fully announced nor inevitable changes made. There's always bickering over the lineup (I have my favorite years as well) and it always means the same thing in the end, in my ears. Of course the lineup is important, but the fest is more than that (easy for me to say it, I realize, as it's a 25 minute drive for me...). j to be honest though, there was good reason to be skeptical after some of the bookings last year. and theres still more than enough room for them to screw this year's up. but if they keep this kind of approach to their bookings, i think theyll be greatly rewarded.

Re: (313) demf schedule
Hmmm...those first few years were a LOT more eclectic than anything I see (Autechre, Theo...Tortoise!) here. I'm not sure if we are hearkening back in that sense, anyway. And I'd wager a lot more than who's there goes into who travels. Like money. I know I'd never be able to afford it if I had to fly to it and book a room. I'm betting many others are in the same boat. Anyway, agreed - it looks hopeful. I just don't think we should pee in that direction before we know what's up. I admit: I'd go if I hated half of what was there and focus on the other half. j I'm not sure that pleasing the few to whom this will make a difference qualifies as a 'great reward'. Re: (313) demf schedule
Oh yeah. I recall the DJ set many fests ago - only a handful of people there, as it was very early on the main stage - bliss. I know it's not exactly the same, but... but the idea of rs for 6 hours on an awesome sound system has me salivating already!
Re: (313) demf schedule
If I was driving in, I'd start checking the outlying burbs for a Red Roof or something equally un-belled/unwhistled. It's only about a 30-odd minute frive from Novi to Hart Plaza... j I can't even afford it this year and I'm only a full days drive away (3 states). They jack the prices on hotels and more than half are already booked so no chance on staying anywhere near Hart Plaza. We could fly but that would probably be more expensive even with my miles available. There is enough there already for me to be excited though and if I can find a cheaper means of staying there ($195 per night? In Detroit??) I might go.

Re: (313) demf schedule
Yes, some of last year was awful (my ole buddy Donald Glaude tops that list, little did I know how far off and gone he has gotten). On the other hand, looking back through the list, Louie Vega (oh my!), Mike Clark, our own Fred G, Rob Hood, the Orb, Nico Marks, the Blaze guys, Tortured Soul, Neil Landstrumm's completely mental mix, Donnacha Costello, our own Clark Warner, and a stunning industrial set from Adam X. And I missed Josh Wink, who amazed at least Plaslaiko which is saying something. Not such a bad year. It was too dam hot though. fh - On 2/23/07, David Powers [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Few phrases are as fun to say as I told you so ... ;-) And the Detroit stage isn't even announced yet! to be honest though, there was good reason to be skeptical after some of the bookings last year. and theres still more than enough room for them to screw this year's up. but if they keep this kind of approach to their bookings, i think theyll be greatly rewarded. tom
