Cari is one of the scandinavian bangers colective, but his early works as
MR. James Barth were outstanding. Very floor, but inteligent music. Then on
Hybrid and Drum Code songs were much more stupid bangers. After that i didnt

so banging leeds to suffering, and suffering leads to dark side...

Re: [313] Is Techno in a Critical Moment?

2002-06-17 Thread Berislav

i see this maybe in another way, i was thinking alot i past few months about
techno, because of the scene in my town and cities around me. there is bunch
of partys, all hard techno, pounding and trashing sound systems. so i asked
my self, am i still for it, do i realy want to atend partys with bass
kicking my ass. and was a little dissapointed. but now i look in another
way, techno is on a scene for how long now, 20 years, big boom in last 10
years. and you had critical mass of producers, that had unexplored teritory
with a lot of influences, from music to socity. today you have world wide
producers, and much of them are influenced with music from big boom.
maybe we are missing other teritorys to explore and we are to much focused
on teritory that first wave of producers explored.
i dont think techno is in critical moment, i think kids that ar now 12, 13
years old, with all this new technology coming with a speed of light into
our lifes, will find new moments in music. new ways to express them selfs.
and for ourselfs, just to keep open minded and not to see all in black,
techno was allways sound of the future, so we just have to look forward...

i got same problem with Rob Hood`s Kick Dirt... its skiping so much, that i
have it for nothing, played it once on party, but i had to do very fast back
spin and some miracles to save my self.

other day i spoke with another guy about that and he told me that things
like that had to do something with mastering... another look on record and i
could see that record groove on some place just crosses with another one,and
on this places record skips like it was printing on very fast speeds...

Strange.. my copy on cd suddenly stopped working one day. Luckily i made
a copy for my then g-friend and stole it back after we broke up ;) Same
thing happened with my Ricardo Villalobos mix cd, which is not in a

Wouldn't surprise me if basic channel rigged the cd, inside the case it

> i dont the point being raised was 'which dj is the best' it was to do with

this one is gone from one way to another, from racial problems to who is
better dj, and who is what , and how is who working on the scene.
i cant say juan atkins is super dj, he didnt play in croatia , and i didnt
have chace to hear him. on richie i can say that man can do miracle on
turntables and music, and everything is just like it should be. but on
another hand juan is to me much more better producer then richie will ever
be. but that is my opinon.
on that dj side i have juan`s mix from mastermix series and i enjoy it
everytime, ist not mixed perfect, and i dont need that, but music is
perfect.
so that who is better or not, it all depends on that in what part of world
you are living. over here rush, mills, hawtin, are all big stars, everytime
when they come, you can expect 2000 ppl or more, no problem.
and about racial problems, i had few weeks ago discussion on that topic with
Badi and Phonopsia, and we didnt get some explicit conclusion. we agreed
that there could be a problem, and i said "could be", because at most of
time you dont have proof that somebody is ditched beacuse he is black. i
agree that can happen, but anybody heard someone from big label said "he
cant get contract beacuse he is black". and im not trying to defend anybody
hear.
i just want to say that we are spending lot of energy on "conspirasy
theory". and in this topic, we have break the quota of used energy for
nothing.
maybe there is just plain problem that techno will never be so popular like
rock, or hip hop, and that big contracts will never be usual in techno
music, or maybe contracts will be usual , in 10 years from now.

nobody can tell streight what is going on. and i agree with atkins on topic
about interviews, you can tell one thing, but you cant be sure that your
words will be putt just as you said themone little word and whole
concept is lost

i hope nobody will get me wrong here.

understand a racial problem in us, and again everything we do (in smaller

i have a very big respect for black artist, and realy i dont have any

I totally agree! computers are totally ruinging electronic music! I mean,
where's the TALENT in pushing some buttons, or twisting a knob? whatever
happened to what a few guys, ONLY IN DETROIT, did 12 years ago, like PLAY
THE DRUMS, or LEARN THE GUITAR?

im sorry to tell you but electronic music is about that everything is
controled or made by some kind of computer, synthsizer or sampler.
im not on hawtin side about mixing 1450 tracks in 60 minutes with computer,
but please "guitar", drums, what is next...banjo.

How can some foolish upstart who's not even from detroit, some moron
canadian, possibly think he can start calling himself a so-called "tecno
dj" when he uses a COMPUTER? I for one, am shocked an appalled!

am i hearing this right or you just said that anybody who is not from
detriot cant be a dj, techno dj.
i always tought that techno is about pushing the limits, making something
new, be the first in upgrading the music. in mixing im on your side,
turntables is my first choice, but choose your words.

maybe im a little bit out of time, but about what are you talking. What new
cd.

Mixed reviews is the consensus. I personally thought musically, the cd
was pretty cool and funky. I've said before that it sounded Studio
One-ish. This series is all about the gear and techniques that goes into
the production of these mixes, not necessarily the music itself,
although some people expected way too much from Richie musically, hence
the mixed reviews.

Bought the new album of New Order ´get ready´ yesterday.
After 8 years of silence they still sound pretty good!!
Although it´s more of rockier sound they play nowadays,
it´s great to hear these guys again who have been such a big
influence on the (acid)house-culture (a bit of 313 here:)
Hearing Bernard Sumner´s voice and Hooky´s bassline again
brought back some great memories..aaah..the early days:)
try it, if you can!!! (opinions??)

There was that nasty Sven Vath album, the name escapes me but it was really
pretentious and along the lines of - the robot the ballerina and the
something or other

it was "harleqin, robot, and the ballet dancer", but i think it was not made
with idea to be ballet or something classical. It was big mix, between
trance, ambient, and it showed that piano can be used as instrument in
electroinc music.

at that time it was really good piece of music.

Does anyone know of any ballet (or dance) productions that may have been

a list. Apparently the Australian Ballet performed X, a ballet based on

So if I follow your reasoning then Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Richie

Ishii, etc... who all play or played the I love techno party together with
Underworld, Pills, Mixmaster Mike and others for 3 people here in
Belgium (which does qualify as a big event me thinks) do not play techno but
pop?
I'd give a lot to hear their opinion on that...

When I heard Laurent Garnier play 'Man With The Red Face' live as early as
1999 I don't think that he made that track with the specific purpose of
becoming a hit record. If you could actually know which techno/house records
will cross over into the mainstream I'm willing to bet that all names
mentioned above would not hesitate to make such a track.
Or did you think that Rolando's 'Knights Of The Jaguar' was pre-conceived to
becoming a hit record? He would be glad to hear that...

CANT stop some records..."
And by that i also mean on Rolando, and Laurent Garnier etc. Im still saying
that moby goes in studio and makes songs like pizza`s. A little bit of
everything on top and its one million selling record.

RE: [313] Moby, underground techno

2001-07-25 Thread Berislav

Honestly I think some people here have to start making up their minds,
always stating that techno is underground and should not become commercial
and at the same time always complaining about lack of exposure or being mad
whenever a big event does not pay respect to the underground.

What'll it be?

RD

In the beggining techno was underground, but then it was only techno, today
everybody that use somekind of filter is techno.

So if we talking about big events you cant make event, book Moby, FBS,
Underworld(without emerson), Paul van Dyk and call it Techno, because its
POP.

you can stop that some records go out of thier original place on scene, but
when you start to make songs with that purpose you are history for
underground electronic music. Then you go on "Top of the Pops".

Long time ago Moby and crew made that.

vocalists instrument through which to 'bare' ones soul, a bass player, a

instrumental soul music over the years (Love Unlimited Orchestra "strange

maybe problem is in term of "soul", when we are talking about soultechno,
everybody thinks that its got to do with soul as motown or i dont know what.
maybe its just soultechno, techno as techno, not with roots in soul .
and im talkin about plain electronic not vocals or acoustic instruments.

i dont see here connection between moby and i dont know what is your
problem, i just wanted to say, that you can compare maurizio (maurizio as m
series)with aphex twin , and you can always put aphex to intelligent(come to
daddy or richard james album). on this two examples there is moments but
they are not even close to "i care because you do", "selected ambient
works", "polygon window"

is it clearer or you need more .

maybe because its not intelligent techno, but we can talk also about how
"intelligent" richard is.

yes and one of the tracks that are on m series cd is on main street

but it doesnt mean that all series are on main street.
and that is all another story.

The 'M' series on Chain Reaction /
>M is definitely worth investigating (M4 is a particular favorite).

i would not bet that "M" is on chain reaction, its not.

for BCP compilation look for metal box on cdnow or amazon, also look for
maurizio you will find m series.
you can find there lots on chain reaction, something from rhytm&sound, main
street.

also look for farben aka jan jelinek im not sure you can find tat on cdnow
or amazon. look for herbert.
if you like sound like that you want dan bell`s "button down mind" on
tresor.(142)

that is about that.

for web site check out circonium.

there is answer for the question , why synth pop didnt evolve. i was into
PSB so , but by the time i just realise that its all the same, every album
that got out it was just better because the equipment was newer. but
proudiction was same. and im not sure that those guys have any pontential in
them, its over for them, but they still putting albms out, and destroying
good things about them.
another example, modern talking in germany, it was huge, then they
disappeared now with same songs, they are back again and they are huge
again. and people are just happy, they like that kind of easy music, ohh yes
another one Bad Boys Blue

and its better that they havenat adapt and become trance because i hate
trance, and if PSB become trence i would have to hate myself. :-)

jazz, techno,house

2001-01-08 Thread Berislav Oremus
in past week i was going thru old messages on the list and found some posts
about jazz and techo and house.
few posts was techno is not into jazz, some were oposite, and i can make
judgement about is it or not.
it was fuuny that i was listening Lalo Schifrin in concert and in his "Fox"
theme found some parts of St. Germains " Soul Salsa Soul".
i kinda want to sell this record now:( , first thing that impressed in techh
music was innovations, not some boring guitar themes and craying about
beatles and rolling stones.

also i got Le mighty bop " greatest hits" and that is jazz, but there is
another tpic thhat is interesting to me.
its more downtempo rhyhtms, hip hop like.
where do you see hip hop and other like styles in electronic music, if say
electronic music is music that is made with electronic instruments(drum
machines in first place). and we now tat hip hop rhythms wasnt made with
acoustic drums. today .

thnx.
