Re: [313] industrial vs. hip hop
a conversation that started between dave the wave dresden and i @ wmc this year centered around how people got into the scene, and i started an informal poll while i was down there. ratio? about 60% industrial, 40% hip hop. and one - neither. neither? his answer - heavy metal. hmmm Ha! I was going to write a facetious post referencing the Krokus and Dokken diss (I admit I was down with these guys as well as Saxon and Manowar) a few days back as far as industrial and influence. I have been surprised by the extent of love for industrial 313 has. Industrial was what made me take so long to come around to loving this musicTo me, it's everything detroit isn't; angsty, soulless, and whiny, plus the sounds stink. the funk just ain't there. It seems some of the biggest detroit names love(d) it so I'm obviously not correct on this, but industrial and trance are the only genres in any type of music I've never found a redeeming quality inI came around to techno thru ambient groups and crossover bands like My Bloody Valentine. my boring 2 cents -jason GMOrecords http://www.genmod.org [EMAIL PROTECTED]
DEMF problem solving
this is a time and geographically based email about getting to the DEMF for those who want to skip it I am going down to the DEMF after a weird last minute scheduling allowed for it, unfortunately I HAVE to be in Toronto very first thing(7 am) in the morning on Monday the 29th, so I miss that entire daythis sucks but between the first 2 days and the after parties, I'll see and hear more than enough real music to keep me happy for a long while . My problem lies in that the last train leaves at 5:30 on Sunday back to TO. This means I'd have to miss the dopest section of the event for me; the electro madness with Adult, Assault, ectomorph, etc. I REALLY REALLY would love to figure out some way to pull off staying to the end of the event on Sunday...does anybody from the windsor/detroit or Toronto area know anything about late night buses making the trip past or close to midnight? I'm thinking all the hard core gamblers might want to go till the last minute on the weekend or something. Any help would be appreciated. See you all soon! -jason GMOrecords http://www.genmod.org [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] DEMF questions
Wow, what luck! Well, not really luck, but it's still great. I have to go to Toronto for surgery (bad) I got my appointment bumped up to may 30th (good) this means I can make it to DEMF (very good). I'm afraid I've never been out this way before, and should have been paying more attention to the emails about accommodation, etc, I just didn't want to learn a bunch of info about an amazing event I couldn't go to. I am hoping to stay on the Windsor side to keep costs down (also because I am such a proud Canadian) I wonder if people would be so kind as to give me ideas as to how to get around once I'm there? Is there any public transit that goes cross-border? I would prefer to get a bus (or train?) from TO, but if there is no public transit once I'm in Windsor/Detroit, I might as well rent a car. I only found out I'd be going a few minutes ago, so I apologize if this makes no sense. Please reply privately if you have any info/suggestions. Thanks a lot jason http://www.genmod.org
Re: (313) dbx - giving it to ya raw
-Now we're waitin for the BOSS 550mkII/660 drummachine mania to sweep over the whole civilized world. Now the only people who actually use (and abuse) the machine are Dance Mania producers and rockmusicians... Hint hint ;) Proffit This was the first instrument I picked up, and I got it solely based on the fact it was Squarepusher's only piece of kit for drums..the 550 is pretty lame but the 660 is a great machine, tho basically you're buying a bunch of samples of roland's earlier accomplishments...it's sitting in the corner looking sad these days. I lend it to a friend sometimes who plays only acoustic guitar to use as a glorified click track, it sounds so crap in this setting it's scary. Jason
