Re: (313) 808 State

2002-12-13 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
speaking of 808 state, i really love them and i like all
of their albums, but 90 is their best in my opinion-
the most detroit related record however is quadrastate.
the music they did from 93 (including the gorgeous
album) takes quite a while to get into, you really should
love them if you intend to buy them, same with their
brand new album 'outpost transmission', released on
circus (!)
i am wondering about many people reducing this band
to pacific, they've done a lot of other anthems, olympic
for example is a great one too !!

Didn't see much on the list about this (or did I miss it) but Hood dropped 2
different 2xLPs on Peacefrog recently.

One I think with the full-color jacket is "Point Black" (right?) PFG 027
which is also available on CD.

I think there was a preview 12" called "Who Taught You Math"..

Who is responsible for the Brubaker tracks on Ifach, the usual suspects
(Ford, et. al.?) ? That track "texas sun" is great, and stringier and more
detroit feeling than the typical clinical techno --but still good-- Ifach
roster sound. Gotta find this on one wax... ace.

i like this one very much, though it's less
techno than ten days of blue, more latin
elements i'd say somewhere between
his recent output on ubiquty and his more
ambient techno approach on peacefrog /
r&s. i'd say, if you've liked moving through
here and its mix of contemporary beats
and latin sounds you definitely won't get
disappointed by this very nice album but
i can't say yet if it's his best, probably
in the future (lent it a few days after i bought

Re: [313] frs

2002-07-18 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
that's a nice one, b-side very carl craig
sounding, a bit like his paperclip people
stuff the a-side is kinda techy disco house
with typical c2 basslines. essential party
record..
could have been a paperclip people release,
not that easy to get, but not nearly as hard
to get as the ones i'm also searchin for, ykwim :O))
pay no more than $15 i'd say (refers to
availability not quality, but what am i saying
we're talking about a c2 records :O))

double vinyl *and* cd (which is actually

see axisrecords.com for images of c and
d sides of the vinyl and e.g. fe.org for an
image of the cd cover.

Hello!

No, it's definitely NOT a cd.
it's a double vinyl!
It's confusing because it's parts C & D of the series.

[313] arpanet

2002-05-24 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
speaking of arpanet, it was reviewed in a free german
music magazine called intro, and got very negative
comments, and the inclusion of 'one good track' was
called a coincidence !!
they also feature 10 guest reviewers per issue who
rate it, it had the lowest rank and was even given
1/10 by the one and only... thomas fehlmann !!!
i was really shocked by that, cos i think it's a good
one, probably not as kickin as jap telecom, but
still very very good...

Re: [313] Baby Ford / Zip

2002-05-16 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
have to disagree here, mark broom has excellent
dj skills, baby ford is not the typical dj doing lots
of tricks, but i enjoy his mix of classics and newer
stuff very much, and his mixing has improved a lot
expect things like rock to the beat, ride the rhythm,
and disco classics from patrick cowley, and also
quite a few releases from his own ifach and trelik
imprints. it's worth it, and if you like classics and
share the opinion that good sj sets do not consist
of the newest stuff only give it a check.

derrick may in disguise or a producer

Re: [313] Interesting? System 7 & Derrick May Album Details

2002-05-07 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
that's interesting as there's not such a large
number of collaborations... let me think,
'altitude' and another track on the first album,
'mysterious traveller' on the 2nd one,
and 'big sky city' from 'the power of seven',
a version of which is also featured on the
time space cd on transmat (mislabelled as
'mysterious traveller')
that's five tracks so far...

[313] day of the dog / mitch walcott

2002-04-08 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
speaking of mills, what do the listmembers think
of part 3 of 'every dog has its day' ?
i like it very much, better than pt. 2, bit more like
time machine
and did anyone hear tw-400 by mitch walcott ?
also, ax-009cd has been announced (not a 'cd'
version, but the sequel to 'ab', to avoid misunder-
standings)

on all access, beautiful e.p. pressed on green-ish

in the case of the brikha cd, as far as i know,
the cd version and vinyl version of the new 2002

in a few years i guess, but first of all from the 21st will
be put out (hopefully) -> see 'axis 9'
i read that recordtime had promo 12"es of ax25/tw800 (2 cat nos.
but one 12" afaik) for a few weeks
but only close friends of axis do own one (dj hell for example
had it in his dj charts for quite a time)
a brilliant album this is well we can be lucky it's been easily
available on cd at least, unlike from the 21st

that's a good one, and one of the good techno jazz

actually there are not too many releases by stacey, but
what i've heard from him are brilliant.
also check his kosmic messenger stuff on trance fusion,
plink plonk and elypsia... and 'polyphonic destruction'
on end recordings, which is a killer of a track..

[313] art of dance

2002-01-17 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
hi 2 u all..
i posed a question recently to a listmember,
concerning the 2nd art of dance wl 12".
from his descriptions, the track 'without'
by yennek is included on this release.
now i discovered this acapella version on
the art of dance compilation cd, which has
a different bassline than the 'house mix'
also included on the cd. what i'd like to
know is... is the mix on art 2002 a different
one than the versions on the cd, and does
anyone know about differences between the 12"
and the compilation tracks ?
thanks in advance
niko

RE: [313] drexciya LP

2002-01-14 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
a note on the recent dimensional waves transmissions..
laptop cafe on warp is my favourite album from last year,
(alongside funk all y'all ;O)) this is the real detroit
stuff, in a midnight drive style but more chilled. this
album is a must for any 313er imo
transllusion is harder, dark at times, a brilliant album
and, did anyone mention the new japanese telecom album
on gigolo ?
have there ever been more drexciya releases than in 01 ?

that was about my reaction to digital tsunami.
did not buy it at first but did so one week later.
the more you get into it the better it gets,
kind of a more digital drexciya sound, big and
serious stuff. makes me look forward to harness
the storm.

[313] ymo rock

2002-01-04 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis

>thought they were boring and, let's say, a bit proggy! yes, I remember them
>as elp in kraftwerk suits, ah ah.

>lots of good people are influenced by bad stuff, it's their thing and we do
>not have to be exposed to it directly

ok, someone in desperate search
for credibility, like 'i listened to
kraftwerk when i was 5'.
there is no question if ymo are
influential or not, they definitely
were and everyone (ask john acqauaviva,
for example) who knows their music
also knows that they were not a copy
of kraftwerk, rather a fusion of
european synth sound with their own
native influences. also, there's a lot
of irony (or a kind of 'pretended' naivity)
in their music, which some people probably
do not like

i also think that the sample in rob hood's
'rhythm' was a hommage not a kind of rip off

and, it's not the correct way to listen
to music saying 'i downloaded some tracks
and thought it was a bit like this and a
bit like that, all in all not my cup of tea',
as much good music takes a while to get into,
and i know many examples also and especially
in the world of detroit techno.

Re: [313] yellow magic orchestra

2002-01-03 Thread Niko Tzoukmanis
well, of course, 'least favourite' still means
that i like it very much as i'm definitely a ymo
fan. and i also like their 'cheesy' stuff, 'rydeen'
on 'solid state survivor' is my favourite ymo track,
btw some of sss (e.g. rydeen) is on the us / euro
pressing of x infinity multiplies
it's just that all other lps work better as albums
anyway, to put it right, the debut is also a very
nice record i don't wanna miss in my collection,
and, anyone else out there who thinks that ymo
have only put out good albums. haven't heard
technodon however.
