Everyone on the list I would like your oppinion on this matter . I live in
detroit and love the detroit techno scene. My question is do you agree with
313.net for not posting my info regarding the scan 7 party, he has only
posted the price , How can this possibly help the party, and also what sense
does it make to single me out because I made a point of saying why calll
this 313 if you only want to post Richie's Partys and SELECTED other artist
info where they are playing. Please give your opinion to me.

My opinion is THAT why do people sitting behind computers now act like they
are ruling a nation in dictatorship and censorship.

That is very Silly to Me and They suppose to love this scene and Music.

Im sure the party will be a sucess and make a statement, In closing I am

Without question it would be the Model 500 live show put together by Mad
Mike and Aux 88 for Juan's/Metroplex's 10th Anniversary party oh so
long ago--1995. The repertory of material to draw from in addition to
Mike's analog--serious--funk made for the most memorable live performance
of live techfunk I've yet to experience and I've humbly witnessed a lot of
shows.

Yes, we've tried unsuccessfully in the past and are still trying to get the
right situation (developmental $$) to re - present and tour that
moment.it truly is the finest/most memorable to evolve out of this
city--however it remains an uphill battle. Someday perhaps..

How about a top 5? Too hard to distinguish which sets I like better
than others after that.

1. underground resistance w/jeff mills (1992)
2. aril brikha & time:space
3. rob hood
4. moodymann (based on the short set he played at All Access this year)
5. inner city

I missed the first Model 500 show in 1996 so I can't comment. The
second one (what year was that again?) wasn't worth mentioning
unfortunately.

I believe Blake Baxter was the first Detroit artist to play live.
London in 1988 to kick off the compilation on Virgin. Anyone on the
list see that one? :)

Detroit's Brendan M. Gillen AKA Ectomorph, is coming to Seattle for his
first appearence on the west coast. Brendan's Seattle performance will
mark
the debut event for the new collective Edos Productions. Edos is the
focused efforts of Jerry Abstract, Chana Goodman and Kuri Kondrak, to
provide a North West conduit for Detroit music and dedicated techno
variations.

The event will be on Fri, Aug 31st, at The Aristocrats, located in
Seattle's
Pioneer Square on the corner of 4th and Main. Spinning with Ectomorph
will
be Detroit's Jerry Abstract, and Kuri Kondrak, music editor of Resonance
magazine. Doors will open at 9:30 and the show will run till 4:00am.

Some info about Brendan for those who may be unfamiliar:

Gillen has engineered electro's second coming with a three-pronged attack
of
producing, distributing, and the creation of his own label.
Brendan's productions under the guise of Ectomorph and Flexitone have
enacted some of the most focused, compelling electro mandates to date.
Gillen's Star67 distribution company has also quitely been helping to
push

the genre's anonymous labels from the deepest sound recesses into the
light.
Since 1995, his own record imprint,Interdimensional Transmissions, has
actuated a strain of global neo-electro/tech-funk that has seen the
earliest
incarnations of Ectomorph (from the skeletal thump and fuzz of "Subsonic
Vibrations" to the more recent dystopic take on dubby Arthur Russell
disco

on "Destroy Your Powercenters"), the seminal From Beyond compilation and
subsequent releases from Holland's I-F (responsible for the dirty-Italo
disco sleaze "Space
Invaders Are Smoking Grass") and Austrian-based GD Luxxe (his 20th Door
EP

revealed a hitherto unknown connecton from electro to post-punk/new wave
with strains of Joy Division). Whatever Gillen's actions, the purpose has
been to link the past with the future, the finished with the unfinished,
the
ass with the mind. Expect to be inspired.

it for fear that they would get showed up by lesser known artist. If you can
have rap battles and rock battles why not so that we could see the real

Calming Down

2001-04-01 Thread T Mind
Im sorry Diano plotts for my comments a few monts ago about some of the
artist I think desrve recognition. I am in for a real treat this year
finally some of these names are going to really be heard this year
dopplereffect live , Keith Tucker Optic (Nerve Live) , Strand frictional and
shake. Things are about to get a little interesting.

I think at the festival these artist have a lot to prove and will prove some
important things about this great music Techno.

My comment concerning not mentioning some of these guys was sort of
disrespectfull.

And in closing I reallly do love all detroit techno artist they are truly
different.

lAST BIT OF FREE GOSSIP BESIDES THE number of names performance with keith
tuckers (Optic Nerve) . His label puzzlebox is putting out a new rework of
Shari Vari with original members of a number of names along with some
remixes by Anthony Shakir, Mike Grant, and whol slew of others , Now that's
KOOL.

See that is just it , with the scene the really professional people get
overlooked , but if all these promoters want innovation and change , I guess
their idea is to stick with detroit artist who dont show up . I wont name
any names .

Pretty obvious reasons really. Exchange rates, airfare costs,
uneducated/uninterested people, the scene, blah blah blah.

Are you willing to pony up the cash??

Keith Tucker really suprised me with doing covers like cybotrons cosmic
raindaince, Grandmasterflash's scorpio , no ufo's and his classical training

Fresh off the keyboard...i figured it'll be on the
site soon anways...
enjoy and as a mr.Burton once said "...but you don't
have to take my word for it..."

d

Comin' from the D, Blueprint

For many in Detroit, the first introduction to
ghetto-tech (known as "booty" in its rawest forms)
came via the Detroit based radio station WJLB. Their
late night broadcasts from the now defunct nightspot,
Legends, made the heavy bass and in-your-face lyrics
synonymous with a classic, Detroit night on the town.
Eventually the music leaked into the suburbs,
appearing at underground parties and started to evolve
as a solid break-off of classic electro. It went from
a music only heard in black clubs to a kind of music
that could be heard rattling the metal of any car; no
matter what neighborhood it was starting from or going
to. Taking full notice of ghetto-tech's evolution and
popularity is Intuit-Solar Records, who not only
releases the music but hosts many of the artist who
produce it.
This installment of the "Comin' from the D" series
acts as a grab bag of the label's artist, and each
grab is a gain. For the first time on a larger scale
release, the Detroit Grand Pubahs showcase their solo
efforts, each having a separate and strong musical
presence. Tracks from LeCar, Ectromoph, and
Dopplereffect well represent the deeper and also,
classic, side of Ghettotech. Productions from DJ
Assault, Aaron-Carl and Detroit's golden boy of booty,
DJ Godfather, balance out the CD for those craving
something a little more ghetto-fabulous. To lighten up
the overall audio appearance Tony Ollivierra and Sean
Deason contribute contrasting, lighter efforts. The
CD's one handicap is that Ectomorph's Brendan Gillian
seamed the tracks together so well, a first time
listener is left to wonder when one track officially
begins and ends; leaving little room for separate
artist identity. However, "Comin From the D:
Blueprint" capsulizes the kind of talent that will
keep Detroit's reputation for producing quality,
forward thinking artists alive and well. Diana Potts
