Ha, kraftwerk was fun!
4 old people behind laptops, moving like robot's, great sound and nice
visuals...
The 20:00 show was the same as the 00:00, although at the 00:00 they laughed
a little bit more, ralf danced a bit more and florian had to use his glasses
once, to look at his laptop...

Well, playlist (in random order): Robot's, expo (ur mix), neon lights, trans
europe express, the model, autobahn, airwaves, boing boem tjak, numbers,
computerworld, radioactivity, tour de francemaybe i forget one or two...

I met Greg Earl, John Osselaer

Oh, and jeff Mills was there to...

I think al the laptop 'live' performances that i have seen where all done on
apple powerbook g3...don't know why...there must be some reason...
i am actually an owner of one and using it in my studio, and i must say that
it works absolutly perfect...i don't use an external audio device because i
am more of a hardware man, but if i use some audio...the built-in device
works well...

Well, i'm wondering if anyone could post an overall review of Sonar. Having

 Hi,

one of the longest running clubnights in Holland.

For those of you who don't have a clue who she is (proberly 95% of you

we have added to DJ mixes from her to our website. One of them is
recorded
live at Fluid, the other one shows the state of the dutch techno scene,

[313] When going to Sonar remember this....

2002-02-21 Thread bart wolff
Sonar is really a thing to concider. The weather is mostly great, Barcelona
is a great city and the music is fun (and the food is good...).
There is only one big but...the festival is growing and growing and
growingI have been there last year, and the year before and last year
the 'magic' at night was all lost because they had chosen a very big
nightvenue. Two large halls of an exhibition centre and one outside area
(more a place for a big rave then a electronic music festival)...fare away
from the city centre and a complete nightmare when it comes to getting
homeThe saturday is mostly the day to skip...a complete overload of
people...day and night (two years ago they stormed the night
venue.complete madness...)

Again, one nice thing...rumours go round that kraftwerk is playing at Sonar
this year

Dopplereffekt, I always thought, is a Detroiter named
Gerald (don't know his last name), who used to be a
member of Ectomorph and in and out of Drexciya too (I
-think- on the latter) and his girlfriend (sorry to
refer to her that way but I don't know her name). I
have a picture of him (if I am making the right
connection) doing one of the last PAs he would do with
Brendan as Ectomorph at the release party for Beyond
The Third Wave.

You could check out the 'music for...' series from brian eno, very
interesting. Also 'another green world' has some strange electronic things
that you can relate to cage and stuff i guess. On the other hand you can
make a link to Nam Yun Paik, who's an fluxus artist as well and experimented
with sound (modelated piano's, televisions etc0 Another link could
probably be, although i am not quiet sure, Tone / No Tone from germany. And
that guy who plays records on an recordplayer with two tonearms. I also know
that The Surgeon has some sideprojects where he experiments with
soundsscapes (on Fat Cat??) and speaking of which, Merzbow is very
interesting as well (and of course all those 'Glitch' music things, that's
really cage style music...)

And again some old stories...

when the first backcatalogue came out (1988?) there was this live version of
'take one' on it. recorded, i believe, in detroit (or chocago?) and i
wondered why in gods name the would play in detroit...well we all know the
answer, don't we?!

Oh and that live version really, and i say really (g'damm), rocks!!!

my 242 cents

decks. My initial impression of her was, That poor woman. I'd sure hate
to have to open for Jeff Mills.

Woo-whee boy. Did *that* impression change in the next couple of hours ...

You can not quote me on this and i will sure deny everything i will say
right now: Estroe doesn't like Jeff Mills (Yep she told me) ;-).

Chris was going more or less in the same direction as Burden, Burden,
Burden, Burden Burden Sons. Funky techno...didn't stay long enough to
hear the whole set. Lauwrence Burden was realy cool though, should come more
often to holland. Big thanx to the Rushhour crew...

So, any reports on Random Noise Generation on Saturday night?

Hans, Otto and I went to see Lawrence Burden last Saturay in
Amsterdam. The venue was some kind of semi-legal location under a
highway with room for only 300 party people. First DJ of the night
was Antal from the finest recordstore in Amsterdam 'Rushhour'.
Playing a really nice selection of some old and new techno and
electro goodies. After a little vote we decided Natal could stay :).
After Antal it was time for Lawrence Burden to hit the decks. Mr.
Burden played some nice and really funky techno tracks, i wish
somemore dutch dj's played tracks like this. After Lawrence Burden it
was time for another Rushhour DJ, hristiaan. I didn't really heard
him play but i assume it was ok, maybe Marsel or Bart can fill his
gap for me...
