you picked a good time to visit! Laurent Garnier's supposed to be playing live at Berghain on Thursday 18 May (it's not on his website though so not sure if it's confirmed yet). Andrew Weatherall's at Weekend on Friday 19 May. Theo Parrish is also at Weekend on Saturday 20 May. also on the Saturday Berghain/Panorama Bar have Vitalic (live), Fidel, Ben Clock, Booka Shade (live) and a few others - even if that's not your thing you should still go as the club is one of - if not the - best in the world. it also gets going late (4/5am onwards) so you can check Theo first. on the Sunday Berghain/Panorama have an outdoor Hardwax party with Rhythm Sound feat. Paul St.Hilaire, DJ Pete, Ricardo Villalobos, Soundhack and a very special guest from Detroit who they're not announcing. stores: Hardwax www.hardwax.com Space Hall www.spacehall.de Rotation www.rotation-records.de Digalittledeeper www.digalittledeeper.net From: Southern Outpost ( [EMAIL REMOVED] ) Date: Apr 26, 2006 Subject: (313) Record stores and stuff in Berlin. Hi all, I'm hitting Berlin from the 16th -21st next month and wanted to know what record stores I should check out, obviously apart from Hardwax. Also, anything happening club/partywise? Any tips would be appreciated! Peace, Patrick. -- Southern Outpost - Sydney. RE: (313) how Richie does it -- how do most do it?
there's a pic of Sendex's set-up here: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f52/tony_little/TTB007.jpg -Original Message- From: Tristan Watkins [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 05 April 2006 01:10 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) how Richie does it -- how do most do it? There are a few different types of live PAing. You've got an Ableton live arrangement/dub, or something like Stewart Walker where he uses an MPC + his other kit where he will have most of the patterns sequenced in advance, but he'll play some of them live on the MPC pads, and then trigger the sequences from the MPC as well (although I vaguely recall hearing he's using a laptop now)? Herbert will have most things pre-sequenced, and then he'll sample the sounds live. Then there's an entirely different level of liveness where almost all of the music is created on the fly a la Ayro and John Arnold, or Shawn Rudiman, where they play multiple instruments or machines in real time, have the seuencer take over for some of those parts, then move on to something else, only relying on a few bits of pre-arranged material. I'd say this last type has the most bang for the buck for sure. That Sendex show I was talking about on Sunday was sort of a cross between Stewart Walker and Shawn Rudiman styles maybe. Oh, and I was corrected after my last post that he actually had an 808 as well if anyone cares. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- No virus found in this outgoing message. (313) [Brixton Party] TO THE BONE Sat 10 December Matt Chester, Brendan Nelson, Guy Thackeray
This month's Bone Idols are Brendan Nelson and Guy Thackeray (Non Stop Recordings) and Matt Chester (11th Hour Recordings). X-Factor finalists in 2004, the Non Stop DJs' energetic scratch routines are widely credited with introducing crabs to a new generation of British kids. It was, of course, only a matter of time before their athletic performances caught the eye of 28-stone Dreamboys manager and 11th Hour Recordings head honcho, Matt Chester. To promote the band's Christmas single, 'Face Down, Ass Up', the boys are performing for one night only at Brixton's premier nightspot, the George 4th. Completing the line-up will be Tony Little (with his trademark blend of Hermaphrobeat and New Jack Swing) and Charlie Blue (playing songs from his childhood). (313) [Brixton party] TO THE BONE feat. Serge (Clone) // Saturday 12 November
the door price for this party is 7 pounds - but if you email names to [EMAIL PROTECTED] by this Friday you can get in for the usual 5 pounds. *** To us, he's the betentacled half-man in Clone's motorised throne, but to his mother he's known simply as Serge. Rumours of a genetic manipulation programme headed by the Dutch Davros have not been helped by the fact that he's recently 'fathered' twins. Possessed of intelligences far greater than our own, these two super-evolved electro simulacra are said to have developed their own language - an undecipherable code made up of sequences of handclaps and cowbells. In a rare gesture of friendship towards the outside world, Serge has offered to give south london an extended 3-hour demonstration of his unique line in electro eugenics. We tremble in grateful anticipation. TO THE BONE George 4th 144, Brixton Hill London, SW2 12.11.05 // 10pm-6am
(313) [London party] Soundslike Werk: Party #5 // Saturday 3 December
Accidental Records Werk Present SOUNDSLIKE WERK 5 Saturday December 3rd 10pm - 6am @ an unmentionable underground citadel of rave somewhere south of the river For those that haven't yet punctured their Soundslike Werk cherry, allow us to perform the deed this December. This is a party with no line-up, no address and minimal promotion. In fact, we won't even let ourselves know who's playing and where the venue is until the very last moment. What we do know is that it's a musical smorgasbord across three rooms, with the meat and two veg of house, techno and hip hop sharing a mouthwatering menu with the cheese, port and cigars of jaunty electronica, and perhaps a few lashings of jungle pie for dessert. The previous few line-ups, disclosed on arrival, have included Matthew Herbert, Four-Tet, Kode 9, Patrick Pulsinger, Modeselektor, Dani Siciliano and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir. And we have an inkling that some heavyweight presences at December's shindig will make you soil your rave-pants in sheer joy. So whether the line-up stars Jimmy Edgar, Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Nail, we hope you'll join us and chip to the chop, frug to the frick, and generally howl with primal glee as you spend yet another sleepless night dancing in a sweaty warehouse to the sound of Soundslike Werk. (313) [London Party] TO THE BONE: Planet Delsin Special! 08.10.05
TO THE BONE Saturday 8 October The George 4 144, Brixton Hill Entry £5 10-6am DJs: Peel Seamus Aroy Dee Terry Brookes Charlie Blew Tony Little With scant regard for finances, health, or personal hygiene, TO THE BONE step up a gear to bring you three parties in as many months. The Dutch have designed shoes that nobody wears; cheese remarkable only for its inedible skin; and sensible, enlightened policies that have resulted in one of the most tolerant societies on earth. But wait! Calm down, remove the key from the ignition, and stop feverishly booking unnecessary budget flights - let's not condemn them to a watery grave just yet. In recent years, a tight-knit core of producers and labels have made Holland the envy of the global electronic music community. And now they've set their sights further afield, namely, Planet Delsin; a strange and fearsome place characterised by snaggle-toothed, mentally deficient inhabitants and a currency consisting entirely of F-reg Ford Escorts and children's bikes. No, sorry - that's Brixton Hill. Planet Delsin is much the same, but with funny accents... ...so it is with genuine enthusiasm that we say 'hey guysh, wanna come make party with ush?!' to Planet Delsin's supreme leader, Peel Seamus, and crown prince, Aroy Dee. NWAQ and Deepart artist, Terry Brookes, will also join in the fun, travelling from the no less exotic environs of Willesden. As if the above is not temptation enough, on the night you can also purchase copies of Planet Delsin on CD and vinyl, as well as the accompanying t-shirts, for just ten pounds. hi. sorry, off-topic again - please reply off list. i'm after some examples of 'transformed spaces' in Chicago i.e. a power station that's now a club, or a bank that's now a restaurant - anything really, so long as it's still open for business and roughly in the service sector (so bars, restaurants, clubs, hotels, conference centres etc.). any help appreciated! dave

(313) [Brixton spam] TO THE BONE, Saturday 23 July, Alex Bond Raf Rundell
just noted a cheeky plug in the digest, so here's the full skinny for Alex's debut(?) Brixton appearance: TO THE BONE Saturday 23rd July The George IV 144 Brixton Hill Entry £5 10-6am Following a vigorous bash in February, we're back, with a new name, at Brixton's original Michelin-starred gastropub, The George IV. Come and join us for a party that will forever be remembered as the night of men's behinds. Our guests are: Raf Rundell (Accidental) - The man behind the man behind the first, and conceivably last, ever track to be made from a Big Mac carton. Expect Harold Melvin, Energy Flash and mixing with charisma... and Alex Bond (New Religion) - The man behind the man behind the last record ever played at Tresor. Expect techno records you really ought to know the names of and disco records you could never hope to. Residents are: Little Tony (Soundslike Werk - the man behind your mum) and Charlie Blew (the man behind corn plasters) The drinks are cheap and the DJs are precious. Plus, get three chakras for a tenner in the Zen garden. TO THE BONE Hop House, Heckno and Half a Bogle of Dancehall
