I know I'm gonna catch flack from somebody, but this is the most exciting
of the dust-eez for me (I know black dog and claude are super ace). The
melodies are sublime and well felt out, which I think is the most
overlooked element in modern techno. The strings in distant gratification
remind me of Bone (and if you didn't know that's a great thing in my book)
and those little plinky delayed things gave me eye spasms. I almost didn't
like delirious but then the bottom dropped and made it gel with the disco
feel. And prescience is just right up my alley, deep bassline
melodies and sweeping gorgeous bizness. I want one now. Has it been that
long since we heard techno proper from the kook? Or is it me (late again)?

 hello all,

what is this club wired like? i had a link for a website but cannot

are there going to be pre-sales? the prospect if there are none of
driving from lansing, standing in line, the boarder patrol and maybe
not getting in is making me question an attempt at the trek. is there
anything going down that is a must see at this show? i have not missed
a richie show a quite a few years and have not been fully satisfied
with that past two city club show's. (the last one being out of there
control with the police and all) i would be bummed if i missed a live set.

now the show in chicago, what club is it at? any other info?

just trying to figure out what to do for halloween and it is looking
like the i.t. freak out. but i'm a richie freak and would love to see
a live se if that is the deal.

After hearing lots and lots of hype about this albulm for the past couple
of

I've heard but it still is amazing albulm. The first track really sucks
me
in especially with the synthy opening. I think Ping Pong and Headcase are
very good also. When listening to the albulm I think its important to
keep
in mind that it is a concept albulm, bringing you closer into the mind
of
Mr Hawtin. I think the vocals are a very important part of the albulm
which
relates directly to the concept behind it all. I'm constantly amazed on
how
dark the albulm feels. I will agree with Dennis and say that it is a must
buy when it comes out in October.

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, as I haven't yet
 seen
  anything about it.

After giving Closer a few listens, I have to say that I'm very
impressed
at not only the musical quality but the way in which Plastikman was
able
to keep that traditional Plastikman sound, yet meld it into a new album
 that
isn't walking on exactly the same ground that he's walked before. The
 whole
album plays out like an album should, a full context of itself, with
each
song becoming a part of a greater whole, which is very enjoyable as a
listener. All of the compositions include somewhat basic production
methods, but used in a sort of finesse that really uses each part to its
potential, instead of relying on tons of layers to tune out things that
  don't quite work.
The very industrial-inspired vocal work is pretty non-descript and not
over-the-top or cheesy, as one would suspect simply given the
description.
The heavy use of delay and reverb gives every production a lot of space
 and
feel, ala Consumed, but the songs all have more of driving presence
akin
to the direction of earlier albums (sheet one, musik).
This album is a marvel in keeping pace with expectation without
dissapointing the faithful followers of a specific sound, while adding
 some
new elements. Definitely Plastikman, but at the same time, definitely
 new.
  Buy on site.

General info is up at www.apple.com/retail/may2

How does that work !?? Do Ipods have pitch controls nowadays ?
What would be fantastic actually would be the combination of
ipod + finalscratch (oh yeah and if only they give ipod
   recording functionality..)

PG Totally true. I think ipod's are one of the best things
   to happen to
music, i have over 500 albums encoded on one device that's
smaller + lighter than my portable cd player. Rich has been
using one forever.. I don't know how you would mix using one
of them though, with two i suppose you could dj jamaican
style. Would be cool to have a final scratch type thing-ie
   for IPOD's though!

Sounds interesting. One of the (forgotten) female innovators of electronic
 music.

LAURIE ANDERSON BRINGS 'HAPPINESS' TO AUSTRALIA

Internationally renowned New York performance artist LAURIE ANDERSON
will
be in Australia this month to perform her acclaimed new solo show
'Happiness' with dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Anderson - multi-media priestess, classically trained violinist, ex
cheerleader, poet, composer, ventriloquist, sculptor and film-maker - is
one of the most diverse, fascinating and renowned performance artists in
the world. She is certainly the only one to achieve and maintain
household
  name status.

This new work is one of her most personal and sees Anderson performing
as
  DJ in the performance.

Happiness is in part a self-portrait. In my past work, I have often
mentioned things that I have seen or heard. This is the first time I
have
used so many experiences from my own life, which in this case has become
a
kind of touchstone for thinking about deception and fiction, the stories
we
tell ourselves so that we can go on.

In Happiness the music is a pulse and a metronome. The sounds are a
combination of keyboards, violin, and digital processing as well as
several
MIDI triggers. I get a lot of pleasure out of DJing these sounds which
allows me to improvise. Unlike the technically more complex multi-media
shows I often do, Happiness is meant to be flexible and in the moment.

Serious House And Techno With A Smile On Its Face

 DJS:

Baby Ford (Force Tracks, Trelik, Ifach)
 Andy Nicolson (Fissure)
Mark Forshaw and Scott 'nocturne' McGill

 DETAILS:

Peter 'Baby' Ford has been making innovative sounds since way back when
Acid
House bomb 'Ooochie Koochie' was released at the tail end of the 80's, and
has since been involved with ground breaking record labels such as his own
Ifach (Baby Ford and Eon's 'Dead Eye (1997) set a new standard for deep
techno), Trelik (Soul Capsule Productions), and Perlon (Baby Ford and
Zip's
1999 track 'Vacuum Cleaner' with its cut up vocal schizo dub funk sounds
led
the way for producers such as Akufen and Pantytec). More recently we have
witnessed his all-engulfing 'Sacred Machine' LPon Klang and the
minimal-as-you-like 'All That Nothing' (Force Tracks) which has the kind
of
sound you can step inside. His tracks also featured heavily on Richie
Hawtin's inspirational DE9 mix cd. Add to this to the many guises that
people don't often realise are him such as Lighter Thief and the list is
 endless...

His Dj'ing sound has taken him from the UK to Detroit's respected Motor
night and being a regular fixture in Germany with the Background Records
stable alongside Akufen, Mike Grant and Juan Atkins and now back again.

It is with great pleasure that T-Funkshun welcomes Baby Ford to our Friday
8
November gig, fulfilling our promise to put on the people who deserve to
be
heard. On the night he will be accompanied by original Voodoo resident
Andy
Nicolson, who is stepping out of the studio for the evening and by
T-Funkshun's own residents, Mark Forshaw and Scott McGill.

Everything Else Is Like Dancing To No Music

 t-funk out.

check out www.tfunkshun.com for more info.
Also: Look out for Mark Forshaw's first release 'Revolution as featured
and
remixed on Jamie Ball's Turning Point Records (TP05)

 Cheers
 Nick

Re: [313] Does anyone compare to Hawtin?

2002-06-05 Thread The Deliverator
Well,

After having missed only this Hawtin Party over the past 4 years I have to
say that the last Control left me feeling a little empty. I love a loud
sound system just as much as anyone, but even wearing earplugs the entire
night my ears *still* rang for seven days afterwards. 1500 people jammed
into a club designed for 500 is really no fun either- no room left to boogie
without punching some poor guy behind you in the head :-) Also, I'm really,
really, *really*, sick of City Club. Expecting people to stand for 12 hours
is unrealistic, and sitting on the City Club floor leaves one literally
filthy. The other thing that bothers me a bit, is that at Integral, U, NYE
1999, and the +8 party at Saint Andrews, a lot of attention was put into the
physical environment- transforming it into something that it wasn't before.
The past series of parties at the City Club, the club has been left
essentially untouched. I really don't like seeing the same old damn club
exactly the way it was when I was a goth kid at 18 years old. It leaves
more than a little to be desired Despite a couple of glorious moments at
Control I and Jak, I still feel that something very fundamental was missing-
what exactly that was I can't put my finger on. I've been really hoping to
hear something deeper and funkier, more along the lines of de9:ce, but that
still hasn't happened. I respect Hawtin as a producer and a DJ- it was
really his sets on 96.3 when I was a teenager that introduced me to Techno.
I've been a Hawtin freak for years, but nonetheless I have to say that I am
ready for something truly innovative from him, and I know that he has the
ability to do something completely off the wall compared to what he's been
doing. What he doing is played out. It's time to move on.

just my 666 cents

jim

I find it bothersome that the people who are discarding Hawtin because of
his set weren't even at the party.

The fact is, he played very little 140bpm boom-boom-boom

He seems to be taking cues from the Perlon guys and getting into weirder
rhythms that are still funky and techno and housy all at the same time.

Yes, there was a few hours of techno KREKC!!!

But over the ten hours I was at the party, I found myself getting down as
often as I was bangin' my head.

Please don't speak about partys you did not attend.

 Its really bad form.

Re: [313] Does anyone compare to Hawtin?

2002-06-05 Thread The Deliverator
Greets,

Still, what's to say that techno has to have soul or funk - why can't
we
 have some industrial sounding stuff?

Oh, there's nothing wrong with industrial at all, that's really what led me
to techno. I think a lot of Fred Giannelli's work has an industrial feel to
it (in a very good way.) It's the swedish sound that I'm growing tired of.

I still expect something a little more than that from Hawtin though. I
love hard techno, but it has had it's time and place. I listened to nothing
else for several years, and I'm ready for something different. I realize
that this is my problem, and not Rich's. I still think that it is
undeniable that Rich's Dj sets for the past for years have not really
changed in sound, despite the addition and use of several really cool toys.
The potential is there for so much more. Rich, being one that speaks of
shifting gears when he gets in a rut, I think could use a little
constructive criticism for getting stuck in one :-)

I think that the reason it's only written for BeOS, not Mac or
 Windows, is

because of the audio latency. The last I heard they had it down to
 like 5
ms or something. If anyone has ever seen BeOS in action it's pretty
impressive. There's no way a Mac or a Windows machine could handle
 audio
latency that low.

And 5 ms still isn't all that great for DJ uses, at least in my
 opinion.

We can talk about the machine and how it effects us
until we are blue. I think it's obvious that we know
who the demons are here..it's just a matter if you
make it your choice to challenge them on a daily basis
or you are one to choose your battles. For me, the
most important things I get out of these discussions
is the lesson to question things that seem a bit too
easy and try and kick the machine as often as
possible. I don't think it will ever be broken (though
maybe when we get a black, female US president) but at
least it personally feels good to challenge it as much
as can, as often as I can.

I picked up a great 12 in Rubadub yesterday by DFA (Deterministic Finite
Automata), snappily titled 'Microstructural Chracterization' on
Surveillance
Recordings from Detroit. 3 tracks of minimal but extremely soulful and
melodic electronic house/techno, very very nice indeed. Just wondering if
anyone had any more info on DFA or the Surveillance label, and if there's
any other recommended material worth checking out?

Their website (http://www.surveillancerecordings.com/) looks great but
 there's no actual content...

Live. I left immediatly to pick it up, and then when it rang up at $350, I

To make a long dialogue filled story short, he ended up selling me 3

2 guys from Ontario, Canada...prolly best known for Spatial Specific (that
must be 6-7 years ago) which was released via +8. There were a few more
singles back then and another full length a few years ago (Floating in
Shallow Water?). Their stuff is quite dense, very blurred around the
edges/sounds drug-fogged sorta beat laden ambience with some vague
hip-hop
sensibilites tossed in. Reminds me of old DJ Spooky when he was good, but
not as, um, death-tripped. They recorded under other aliases as well.

A few days ago, I stopped at a local record store that I used to
frequent.
Some of you Cleveland 313'ers might know of My Generation. As early as
2000
it was possible to find Elecktroids, Dan Curtin, Octave One, Urban Tribe,
Kenny Larkin, Morgan Geist, Drexciya and other mind-blowing artists in the
cut-out bin. I am talking 50% to 67% discounts on some of the rarest
and
finest out-of-print Detroit direct and inspired material. I still
remember
catching my breath when I bought The Web Of Life for $5.87.
Anyway, to get to my point, when I stopped in recently... the clearance
bin I knew was gone! They still have a section of cut-outs, but it does
not
provide the 313 addict with any material. I can only guess that they may
have decided to discard the old material. Oh well... years before this
sad
occurrence I was feeding my vinyl habit at Bent Crayon. I am still able
to
get my hands on primo Red Planet EP's, but nothing beats paying $4.35 for
mint copy of Panic In Detroit. No sh#t... I still reel at that
discovery. Any other 313'ers have similar amazing discovery tales?

[313] New Tracks

2001-11-05 Thread deliverator
Greetings All,

Just a quick note to let you know that I have two new tracks available at
http://www.assasins.net

the first track is entitled Tabla Jam. It is a collaboration between
myself and John C. It is a very long (24 minutes,) and almost meditative
track. I know that the size of this file will not be good for those on
modems, but you should be ble to stream it ok. If interested, email me
privately and I will burn a CD. I'm quite proud of this track, so please
let me know what you think!

The second track is unagi. It is a bangin' techno track in the style of
Utility Plastics. I experimented with several parts of the song falling in
and out of time with each other. The track is hard, but still remains
lighthearted.

thanks

Another hijaked plane was diversted from cleveland, and at last update had

Also a van in east cleveland with blacked out windows surrounded by about 20

To those in NYC DC, good luck.

Greetings all,

For those who went to control the other night. Richie had a righteous set
going on right about 5am that started with 'minus' by rob hood. The next
two or three records after that were quite spectacular as well. Any
trainspotters remember what tracks they were? I could try and describe
them, but I think I'm lacking the right wordsa long shot I know, but

I suspect that he used electrix' repeater a bit as well. The perfect tool
for loopoopooping,

I've already heard people slag on this CD. People aren't happy when
Hawtin's bangin', and they aren't happy when he's minimal and (imho) funky.
No winning is there?

I listened to the cd once online (i was real icky about listening to it
more
than that, since i prefer to support the artists), and i really enjoyed
it.
The only track 'sample' i could pick out right away was spastik, and well,
its hard to miss that one. It was a difficult cd to classify (as we humans
love to do); deep at times, downtempo at times, house at times, but i
don't
remember any 'hard' moments. You can tell that hawtin has really gotten
into
 using sonic foundry's ACID program.

The repeater allows one to edit loops on a pee cee or mac, and then drop the
sound files onto smart media. From that point syncing, stretching, pitch
shifting, etc can all sync up to midi. Pretty schweet. I wouldn'y be
suprised if he used acid thoughalong with a variety of other tools.

I'm the somebody:

hopefully the encoding for this doesn't get messed up. If it does, i'll
re-edit it.

and not really feeling argumentative, if you don't agree that's fine with
me:

http://www.bobmarley.com/life/musicalinfluences/punkyreggae/

Well, Bob was influenced by punk at least.

and the show the brought the connection to light for me on pbs:

The Ramones, Patti Smith, Talking Heads and Blondie light a fuse in America
that explodes in London with the cynical inner-city punk spirit of the Sex
Pistols and The Clash. Sharing a sense of alienation and rebellion, they
champion the Bob Marley-led reggae movement. -
http://www.pbs.org/cgi-registry/whatson/template.cgir?s=WVIZt=2p=1490c=d;
d=2001-08-13

Punk explores two late `70s musical innovations that shaped rock and roll
through the next decade: punk and reggae. In New York, members of Blondie,
Talking Heads, Television, and the Ramones tell how they inadvertently
created the cynical, urban, stripped-down sound that became punk rock. In
London, punk takes off with the Sex Pistols, and members of the Wailers and
the Clash recall how Jamaican reggae, another musical form of rebellion,
crossed international boundaries, deeply influencing punk and pop rock.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/rocknroll/rnrtv.html

By combining a punk attitude with the rhythms of reggae - a musical import
from Jamaica popularized by Bob Marley - bands like the Police, the
Pretenders and Elvis Costello and the Attractions created a hybrid that
proved both infectious and commercially acceptable in a way that hardcore
punk was not.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/rocknroll/rnrpunk.html

The Sex Pistols had broken up the previous year and the Clash were
considered the standard bearers of Punk. The concerts were the scathing
attacks of fury that had earned the group its reputation as a high energy
concert draw. The band returned to the UK after the tour to begin writing
for their new album to be produced by Guy Stevens who had produced the
Clash's demos for Polygram in 1977. So much material had been recorded that
the album was set to be a double. (Time is Tight a Booker T cover the band
had been playing since 1977 was recorded for the LP but was not included).
The title song was released in advance of the album (the album's working
title was the New Testament) with the flip side Armagideon Time. That song
hadbeen a reggae hit for Jamaican singer Wille Williams in 1978, but the
Clash's version was so far superior to the original it has since become to
be associated with the band as their song.
http://members.aol.com/secretsun3/history.html

Roxane by the police came out in 1978, well before the 1988 date you cite.
Then there's always regatta de blanc in 1979, walking on the moon.

I guess it really does all come down to one's definition of punk after
allbut I think there is enough evidence of cross-polination.

and no, I am not iggy pop.

Do you have any evidence of this? Can you support this claim? Are you
Iggy
Pop? The only influence Dub and Reggae may have had on punk is the
message
they tried to get across. Ska was directly influenced by the rhythms and
sounds of Dub and Reggae as is apparent in the music, however Ska-punk
cross
pollination really didn't happen until about '88 when Operation Ivy hit
the
scene. Unless you consider The Specials and The English Beat 'punk', I'd
really like to know where you got this idea.

Actually pbs had a very interesting show a couple weeks ago regarding the

I haven't wanted to get social sciency on the list...but I have questions
about this. Are we making a distinction between primary and secondary

have to be an influence that is direct. I listen to Mojo ergo I am
influenced. I listen to Kraftwerk, ergo I am influenced. It also seems
to me that a secondary influence--like the Jamaican one here--would have
to be an influence that is INdirect. Kool Herc created the
breakbeat...some disco DJ picked up this and influenced someone in
Chicago...who happened to spin while Derrick May was working in a record

Last I spoke with him he was making some changes in his personal and
musical life. Cognition lost its syndication awhile ago, which is why you
have not heard anything from that show lately. He is still doing a local
show and running a local college station, which is what is taking most of
 his time these days.

He has also been concentrating on his own music again. I got a promo cdr
earlier in the year, he is doing dark ambient material. Lance McGannon
praised it when it was making the rounds earlier in the year. Andrew will
also have track on the next issue of Masstransfer.
 http://www.masstransfer.net/

I think he and Lance both ran into the same situation. You work your ass
off
at something because you love it, but you get very little financial
reward.
Time passes, you get burnt out and you need to start making money...blah
blah blah... It is a shame for these lists because both of those guys
contributed so much information. I think the level of education on the
lists
has gone down because of the fact that Lance and Andrew are not pointing
out
articles or giving 30 release discography info and reviews, followed by 5
artists who you should check out if you are into a similar sound. There
are
still people contributing, but it is not like it was.

Either way, Andrew deserves props because he worked his ass off to bring
this music to people who would not have heard it, and to better inform the
 people who already had.

 Take care,
 mt

[313] repeater info and link

2001-05-30 Thread Deliverator
http://www.axemusic.com/links/manufacturers/menu_links/electrix_home.htm

Repeater is the next step in the evolution of loop-based music production.
To the studio musician, it gives a power to arrange audio that was normally
reserved for MIDI. Live musicians can safely sample and integrate loops into
their performance with almost no learning curve. Repeater's algorithms are
tailored to making the looping process simple and intuitive.

NEW! Download the Repeater Manual and take a deeper look into its features
(PDF file requires Acrobat Reader). This is a Public Beta Manual with facts
and figures subject to change in final product.

Repeater Features...

-Loop Point AssistT algorithm takes the tedious pre-production work away
from creating the perfect loop. Loop on the fly!

-High quality pitch shifting and time stretching algorithms gives you
creative control over a loops tempo and pitch. Completely change the loop's
vibe with a few control tweaks.

-Audio Beat Detection automatically syncs recording and playback to any
rhythmic audio source, such as a sample CD, vinyl, or a kick drum.

-Intuitive interface means a short learning curve so you are having fun and
being creative faster.

-Repeater has an 8-minute (40 MB) loop limit. That's larger than any other
hardware, looping device.

-Repeater can have up to 99 loops with 4 tracks per loop.

-Control the level, pan, pitch and position of individual tracks.

-Independently Slip each track position much like you would in a software
multi track application like a ProTools or Cubase.

-The overdub feature lets you build multi-layered loops on each of the 4
tracks.

-Resample lets you bounce 4 tracks to 1 or 2 and re-record effects into the
loop.

-Overdub regeneration lets Repeater act like a very long delay line.

-The undo function lets you experiment, overdub, edit and record without the
fear of destroying your work.

-Reverse play and record adds new creative possibilities to your work.

-Double loop multiplies the recorded loop allowing you to create a bed for
overdubbing a longer phrase.

-The front panel trim controls allow you to easily edit the start and end
points of your loop.

Memory

-Carry your performance in your pocket! Front loading Compact Flash media
gives Repeater virtually unlimited memory expansion. Repeater comes bundled
with a 16 MB Compact Flash card to complement the 8 MB internal memory. 24
MB means 4.5 track minutes.

-The largest single card available (as of this writing) is 256 MB or 49
minutes of uncompressed audio. Need more memory? Just swap cards. (read more
about the Compact Flash media)

-Purchasing the optional Sandisk ImageMate gives Repeater Mac and PC
compatibility (suggested retail $29). The ImageMate sits on your desk and
acts like a removable disk drive, treating the flash memory card like a
diskette. Drag and drop files to your hard drive and back. Record loops on
Repeater and transfer them onto your computer for integration into your
recording software. (read more about the ImageMate)

File Format

-Repeater records uncompressed WAV files giving you high quality audio that
is compatible with other environments.

Remote Control

-Any TRS style 3-button foot controller (like a Digitech FS-300) gives foot
control over play/stop, record and tap tempo.

-Repeater can be operated from a MIDI foot controller for Hands Free use.

-Full MIDI control also means you can sequence your loops to create complete
song structures.

-MIDI keyboard control over the pitch offers real-time manipulation over the
sample. Experiment with melodic variations of the loop.

I/O

-Repeater's digital out means easy integration into the digital studio
environment.

-The High quality Phono Preamp makes it's easy to sample from vinyl.

-Repeater's stereo Insert lets you integrate any effects unit into your
loop. Assign the insert to individual tracks, the output or the input of
Repeater, all from the front panel.

-Repeater can be configured for Individual track outputs.

-Repeater's front panel instrument input and headphone output means, plug
and play looping.

my original message didn't come through.

The repeater is the main piece of gear that Richie used to do the mind-warp
versions of spastik and the whole prince 'i won't hurt u' and 'i called u'

Well this message really doesn't want to come over!

All of the really distoreted and twisted effects during richie's performance
were done with the electrix repeater. I forwarded the info on it earlier.
Sorry if this ends up coming over three times.

Re: [313] jak

2001-05-29 Thread Deliverator
Hello all,

This was the best party i've been to in years! I met a fellow 313 member on
the people mover, which made me happy, and the night only got better-
despite everyone bum rushing the doorI left about 6:30 am, and you could
literally still hear the party 5 blocks away!

He threw down some nice funky stuff, and that twisted version of nitzer ebb
was amazing. Not to mention: I called you- but you weren't there and
Don't worry, I won't hurt you... The price loop just about made me go
completely ballistic.

Other than Jak:

Kenny Larkin's set was immaculate. Kit Clayton impressed me way more than
Autechre. John Acquaviva dropping that track (what is it) which made
the sun come out :-). Seeing Laurent do 'Acid Eiffel' live. D. Wynn's set
(except for the damn m.c.) Regrettably I missed Fred Giannelli's
set.sigh...

Overall a great festival, but I do wonder whether or not it can retain its'
integrity next year.

In response tot he inquiry about jak, it was insane! I was itting on the
speaker resting int the middle of the relentless 6+ hour set and I felt
something hard hit my hand and I realized the ceiling was crumbling
because
 the bass was so loud.

The next day people were asking Rich how the party went and he described
it
as an amazing experience for him.

Not that one, the one with the funky organ line and the female vocal mixed
in from another record. Though Electric avenue was great to hear :-)

New Tracks

2001-04-20 Thread Deliverator
Greetings All,

Please forgive my non-participation in the list lately. The work demon has
given me no peace :-).

However, I do have two new tracks to make up for my lack of participation.
The first is called Morticia, which is a slow and spooky track along the
lines of Hallucination LXV. The second I finished quite some time ago, but
haven't announced. It's called Foundation, and is a bit more dancefloor
oriented.

I would appreciate it if you could take a minute or 13, and check the new
tracks out.

Also, I now have a new website as mp3.com decided to charge a premium price
for slack ass service:

http://www.ampcast.com

or

http://www.assasins.net

thanks!

mea culpa

2001-04-20 Thread Deliverator
greetings again all,

I realized this morning that I uploaded the wrong mix of 'morticia.' If you
have the patience to check it out again, you will be rewarded with a
smoother mix and a new synth line. My apologies for posting twice, but I'd
rather have people hear the track in mostly finished form instead of a very
rough mix.

thanks

Or just get a macintosh. :-)

jim (sorry, couldn't resist)

I run a P3 733MHz with 128Mb of ram and have never ever had a recording
failure, but the average problems are clipping and defragmentation.
I use a 20GB partitioned drive and send all audio to the non-OS partition.
You should always up your system virtual memory and never point it to your
OS partition. This is accomplished through the System Icon under the
Control Panel.
I would also recommend getting all the Windows updates for Win98, and
regularly look for more. Uncle Microsoft is still pulling it apart and
fixing problems inherent in the DOS layer.
Cheers

Yikes! I knew it went up, but I didn't know it went up *that* much. FWIW
the rooms were $150 last year. Every room I've ever stayed in there, has a
hide-a-bed as well as the number of beds you order. So it is good for
large groups of people

In case anyone is curious...I called the Athenium and found out that a
room
with 2 queen beds is $270/night.
yes i have too much time on my hands today...

Greetings all,

This is rather ironic as I just downloaded the demo version of max on
saturday...The user tutorial alone is 250 pages long. You can do some
incredible things with this piece of software, and at least in the beginning
it relatively strightforwars, but alas I think it would take me a year at
least to get the fundamentals downsigh

Looks like my next purchase is gonna be reaktor (and a new mac to run it,

Fred- Are you buying it?

I got in a rather lengthy discussion over a few beers this past weekend on
this topic. Admittedly, I have more than just a slight buzz going at the
time but..After about an hour or so discussing the ford focus commerical
I came to the following conclusion:

1.)Hooray for Juan, the man has skills and talent. He deserves recognition.
2.)This is a sad day for Detroit Techno. Whether we like it or not, it's
been co-opted.

I will always love this music, it's a part of my blood. I'm just left with a
lingering question:

What now?
