off on a tangent already... ehem.

recently i picked up a UR record (sc006?..don't know what # it is) anyway,
you can only get it @submerge. very funky. one track contains a
sample of some classic i can't put my finger on. first i was thinking it
was a zapp and rogers sample, now i'm thinking that it reminds me a lot of
kool keith's 'master of the game'. oh well. i also picked up a record on
vmax that has the double grooves. not entirely rare or my favorite, but
fun to play.

those are the ones. Heath B. mentioned they were collector items...
i think it was #4 or #3... that i really liked... very chill, ambient, and
ethereal... not sure who made what though. not sure why i didn't get a
couple of the others. (being broke isn't a good excuse,
especially @submerge where you get more record for your $ than anywhere
else.)

yeah, when i see an isolee record, i don't hesitate to listen to it. i've

thin! whoa! i couldn't believe how much was going on in Vancouver when i
visited (over new years..)... try Ann Arbor.. a whole new definition of
sparce. luckily we're not too far from Detroit.

last time.. i visited i checked out Solar? and went to a couple'o
afterhours parties.. heard a dj set by a woman named Joanne? ridiculous. i
long to hear a set that compares. Only time i heard a set that rocked
that much was when i saw Dan Bell couple years back in A2.

save yourself the trouble. my experience with them hasn't been to
favorable. they took forever and half of my order was out of stock.
+ I visited the store in NY. unorganized, staff not too friendly...

anyway, i'd recommend ordering from sumberge (www.submerge.com) their mail
order will be up in a couple'o months. + they are supa' cheap.

in the meantime, i'd try groovetech (www.groovetech.com). their website is
pretty up to date. so you won't be getting your hopes up for records that
are out of stock. also they deliver fast. i usually order my records and
get them 2-3 days later max. -m

Re: [313] Techno Visual Arts + sonic boom

oh no, here we go again...

i agree w/ the following statement:

> Just because you put your "heart" into something that has "soul" does
not
> make it anything, let alone "experimental".

true enough. i never thought of soul being the equivalent or synonomous
w/experimental...although they can overlap.

however, experimenting is trying something new... it's relative to the
person. one question, why make such broad generalisations, such as "there
is no experimentation". what purpose does this (belief) serve, not that
i'm completely utilitarian it seems narrow minded..and limited.

my $0.02

perhaps, i've missed the point all together... i feel like i usually do,
with these trance/techno... experimental/noexper' discussions. hmmm.

Re: [313] Technics MkIII

2000-07-31 Thread mkarora
if you go www.priceline.com they usually have some online companies
w/deals. last time i checked you could get mk3's for 450 w/no tax...
shipped out of ohio. even if you get guitar center to match your
price...which they will.. you'd still have to pay sales tax. The company
(name escapes me right now..) will probably give you a good deal on
shipping if you're getting two. they'll ship two for 30 bucks. cheaper
than any other place. -good luck -m

Re: [313] online record finders

2000-08-22 Thread mkarora
i've had pretty good experiences w/GEMM. In fact, i discovered some cool
record stores through GEMM, that i order from directly. anyway, a lot of
the stores/distributors through GEMM are 'certified' through GEMM. Which
means if the record store turns out to be sketch, you can always fill out
the little form in the 'my account' section. it automatically sends an
e-mail out etc to the store. if you are skeptical, make sure the record
store has the 'gemm guarantee'. also, it's better if they don't charge a
'gemm surcharge'.

one last comment. the only negative thing i'd say about ordering from the
netherlands or germany is the time it takes for some places to ship.
There's a great record store in Germany (i think) called Fun Records, but
it always takes a month or so to receive records, whether or not you
specify surface etc. I've had the same experience w/Clone. No doubt
though, they are both great. i guess that's why i still order from them.

oh yeah, i'd stay away from those two. just cause they are back
order/special order stores...that never come through. (at least not for me
anyway.) ps. you may want to contact them and find out if it's special
order or not.
