Two tracks on the True People compilation that were named after his sisters (abbreviated) and birthdates. "Stella 2" on Peacefrog, which was released on T.A.X. compilation as "Lodge Freeway" or something. (313) ARCOLA
I haven't offered a record recommmedation to 313 in some time, so that probably carries little weight to my suggestion, but check out ARC 000 on Arcola. It is Warp records from Sheffield, yeah you know home of early home of Aphex, Speedy J and Autechre etc, it is an offshoot of Warp that concentrates on a more 4/4 approach. This record features a track that has really nice germanic percussion over a Rakim sample. I don't dig the marriage that much but on the flip is a wicked slice of disco riddled pasty madness. It seems to hold a Prince sample in it too. Challenge to the geeks - what sample lives within?

Re: (313) Shake in Holland, in Liverpool too
I know I am bit slow in replying but Shake played a blinder the day before that in Liverpool too on Friday 11th April. He was an ultimate star when he came, very special atmosphere in the place as usual for T-funkshun's 2nd Birthday. It was a special night all over as Jonny McIntosh turned in a great set before Shake, starting with What's Going On by Marvin Gaye. The style of these two was most suited. I remember Shake dropping everything from Radiohead - Idoteque, Smith & Hack album, Feadz - Funksplitter, Krikor on Katapult, Clash - Radioclash (this was odd as we had been enthusing about the Clash when we picked him up.), and also that electronic funk tune that's name has temporarily left me. The vocal actually says something like "I sing the funk electric, I sing the funk electric," "Out of space out of time, blah blah blah blah blah blah, on a journey!" I think it is called Electric something. Anyway, Shake, wherever you are, I hope you are smiling after your travels. Sounds like you did damage everywhere you came. Much love. Re: (313) Patrick Pulsinger
I was gonna say that if that was true that Pulsinger must've been older than I thought, and have rubbed shoulders with Dean Martin in his time. Re: (313) Theo Parrish
Yes, I was there too Alex. Nick said that you were there, but he left before we were introduced. I agree that the crowd seem to take a lull with Theo, but I just headed to the back room and listened to the dj in there for a bit. Quite nice playing everything from Basic Channel to Lonnie Liston Smith. By the time I caught Theo again I thought that the lull had worked wonders as he obviously likes to get deep, so it felt purposeful. It just made the last period seem more of a crescendo. Not the best mixer in the world we know, but in these funkless days it is nice to see the track selection getting the respect. Re: (313) Robert Hood imitations?
agreed that 'imitator' is bad. Original poster just used the wrong word I'd say. I'm sure you all knew what he meant though. On Jacek: I attempted to pronounce his name to Pacou when he was over here - he just laughed. I don't know who the original poster must have meant, Jacek is the only artist I can think of from Poland, apart from the other guy with the unpronounceable name who is aka ECHOPLEX (I think he is Canadian too). How confusing. Techno is our nationality. SM - Original Message - From: "Mark S. I have always liked Jacek Sienkiewicz's records. I think he complements Hood, but still has his own take on things. I know he is from Poland and he sometimes appears on here. Do you mean him? (313) Mike Grant/Mark Broom in Liverpool - February 14th Valentine's Day
T-funkshun in Liverpool, UK opens up in February after a killer party with Freddy Fresh and Luke Solomon in December. Now after trying to get a slot for Mike over a long period of time it is now on. MIKE GRANT (moods&grooves, afrosyntrix, end2end) MARK BROOM (rue east, pure plastic) SCOTT 'NOCTURNE' MCGILL MARK FORSHAW @Masque Theatre, Liverpool, L1. [EMAIL PROTECTED] 07855 365601 Like a previous poster has mentioned about Mike Grant, he is a pillar of Detoit history. DJing since the 80's, and making appearances alongside the likes of Ken Collier and Jeff Mills. With this Mike's reputation grew and grew, and led to partnerships and friendships with the likes of Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes, Derrick May and Juan Atkins. Even with all this expeirence behind him he has never received the attention he has fully deserved due to military and education commitments. Now in his return, and in some respect playing catch-up, Mike has founded 3 stunning labels that cover deep house, detroit techno and urban based releases. And as a dj, Grant is the only Detroit DJ who plays complete deep house/house and techno sets as well as a mixture. Grant also earned the distinction as being the only American DJ to have a residency at Tresor Club in Berlin. www.tfunkshun.com
Re: (313) François Kevorkian played hard techno...
Yes, Sonar was an all encompassing set for me, but when he played Lost about 5 months ago he played a much more straight techno set than I had anticapted. Many grumbled wanting a 'Body & Soul' vibe, but I thought it was well put together. How often does he get to play music like that? It's like Mills, I would like to see Mills play a set of a different type and I am sure so would he, but I bet he doesn't get much chance. You only have to listen to the mixes he puts together on his electronicdir site to see what I mean. It would be nice if a promotor gave him the chance. Maybe when my budget is bigger I'll offer guys like them the platform. Why thankyou Jonny. Glad you enjoyed it so much, and we likewise enjoyed your company once again. A truly fantastic night was had by all, whether for Jonny's set or seeing a huge visual on the wall of Jean-Claude Van Damme's dance routine in 'Kickboxer' movie. But y'know, at least Jeff Mills never (to my knowledge) openly dissed anybody for what they chose to put in their sets. And as popular (and wealthy) as Hawtin is, you'd think he could afford to buy himself some magnanimity. (*IF* he actually dissed Dave Clarke, which I never read before or heard him say.) -marc

Girls on Top it is. It has been out for quite some time. Very nice, actually sounds made for each other, great vision. he otherside is TLC Scrubs and and somethig else but cannot remember. I hardly play that one due to the Whitneywerk one being so good. By the way, did I miss the Kraftwerk write-ups from Paris. Re: [313] Fw: 28 SEPT. JEFF MILLS / STEVE BICKNELL...
I was in total agreement with you in a way until you mentioned Francois K. I was at that Lost, and to be honest, I remember a few of my close associates saying a similar things about him. You know, should be playing a 'Body & Soul' type set. Well in response to that I totally disagree. At the end of the day, it is down to Lost to book him for what they want and steer him that way. I wanted to experience the journey of one of his typical sets, but instead I witnessed a guy expressing himself in a thoughtful way but with techno records - and I enjoyed it. I mean how many times does FK get to do that? and furthermore I feel he will be doing this a lot more often from now on. He masde have used the effects, but I thought it was well controlled. Not just some run of the mill ass who wants to wear put the effects unit on a pioneer. It was deeper, and people who witnessed his attempt at this type of set at Sonar will know what I mean. Its that time again, time to pick up where we left off. t-funkshun is back on October 11th when we move to the most splendid of surroundings at Masque Venue (home of Chibuku). 90 Seel Street, Liverpool, L1. The nights will run on 2nd Friday of the month from then on. There is an extra drive behind us now, due to other nights not offering, or doing what they express to do. Maybe not always thinking with the head, but with slightly more heart, we as promoters still aim to put on artists that will not instantly guarantee hordes at the door; we want to put on people who deserve to be here. The coming months will show that. First up on Friday October 11th we will be hosting our launch night. This will feature the talent of the amazing Jonny McIntosh. (313 based boy!) Now if you have never heard or seen Jonny then this is the time to change that. I regard Jonny right up there as a dj; superfluously mixing through house, disco, soul, techno, whatever. As the launch night we are keeping the prices way down at £4/£5. 10-3am. DON'T MISS OUT. looking future funk. Friday 8th November: Baby Ford (Force Tracks, Ifach, Trelik, Background), Andy Nicolson (Fissure) Friday 13th December: Luke Solomon (Classic, Music For Freaks), more tba. Not forgetting the finest residents around: Mark Forshaw, nOctURne and friends. look out for the website which will be up and running soon. contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the love, T-funk "everything else is like dancing to no music." - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Does anyone have a tracklisting for this? I specifically want to know what the tune is at about 17min30sec into it. I dj myself in the UK. And like many others I am so miffed by the scene as a whole too. Too many nights that are once credible but then completely lose it when they move onto bigger things. Or nights that temporarily close and start up again to do the same old. That is why in October I have decided to do something for myself and for the love. You gotta make it happen. Cameo - Money was actually the same as Kvein Saunderson's Velocity Funk. I just remember a friend buying it and the guy who sold it to her said that she wanted Cameo and not the KMS tune. I have been looking for this record since 94. Can anybody tell me what the record that features the vocal "What is house music? A unique form, a unique form, of dance music." is please? Yes, I have this baby. Does it have a vocal in that sounds like Sean Connery and a wolf howling in it too. My copy is a bit warped now but it was on K7 as a DJ Kicks release. I originally heard it on a radio show years back, and was informed that it was Claude's track. Ignore that, as it is by a guy called Michael "something". If you like the Advent, then yes. But overall I think it's less compelling than their first string of truly outstanding 12's on Internal, and thus the "Elements of Life" catch-up too. To be fair, I have some friends who are pretty into "New Beginnings" but I just wasn't feelin' it the same way... so it probably also depends on how hard you play out. Are there any "must have" Kombination Research records? I passed on most of them but I'm sure there are some winners ? Re: [313] laurent garnier mixed cd from react.
Yes it's a nice one. There is a Philip Glass piece in there too if I remember correctly. You could also get the Laboratoire mix in a box set form with about 5 sheets of vinyl I think. Laboratoire Garnier. I was always waiting for the day when Laurent would pounce on the obvious humour of that title.
