Just to clarify for Michael.
Yorkshire is a county.
Leeds and Sheffield are cities in Yorkshire.
And NoW are from Leeds - in fact George used to DJ at Leeds Warehouse, where
'LFO' was 'christened' I guess.

Warp the label is from Sheffield. LFO and WildPlanet went to school
together in Oulton, a suburb of Leeds.
NOW I am pretty sure they are from Leeds, however I can't tell you what
highschool they went to...

Three words:

yep, Woody was very influential on the whole midwest acid techno sound
he used to have some good connections with the UR guys but I'm not sure
what happened to that
he works more with Drop Bass now

if his music wasn't influential then the raves he threw around the Midwest
definitely were

Well, if you're going to include them, you need to mention Jake Mandell,
Mr. Projectile, Brad Kraft, etc... All those guys that got the IDM
scene going there a few years ago-- the band Triangle also came out of
that scene, though they're more on the twee thing these days. Cepia
(Ghostly) is also from Minneapolis.

But yeah, I was speaking purely of influential people. Sure, Woodie was
techno, but he certainly inlfuenced me early on.

Hi Robert,
You forgot the best ones from Leeds.

Wild Planet
LFO
Nightmares on Wax

That's how I picked up a copy of the original NOW - Dextrous demo white
label when I was in Leeds last.

http://www.discogs.com/release/35147

Simon Hartley from Wild Planet used to be in a band with Mark Bell
before LFO and Wild Planet existed, but I can't remember the name
and I don't think they ever released anything.

Maybe I'll find some more GEMS next summer when I go back.

Hrm... here in Cleveland I'd have to say Devo, they're the

closest thing

to techno that's come from here and been influential (yeah, they're
actually from Akron, but it's close enough, mmm-kay?)

There were certainly other influential artists, such as Pere Ubu

& The

Dead Boys, but I don't think they had much impact on the techno

scene. :)

Every City/Town has one, but which one do you think has had

the most

influence on the scene we now love?

From Sheffield, it has to be Cabaret Voltaire, their BBQ's

and Party's

influenced everyone here and for many it was the first time

anyone had

heard Kraftwerk on a big rig - god bless Mal and Richard.

Cheers
Martin

RE: (313) Friday - Home Town Band

2004-08-06 Thread David Bate
Hi Robert,
You forgot the best ones from Leeds.

Wild Planet

Dave

Is this the same Information Society that did the electro track 'Running'?

And to really bring it on topic that was then subsequently sampled by Altern

Hrm... here in Cleveland I'd have to say Devo, they're the closest thing
