(313) Jamal Moss Interview Free MP3
I posted a conversation with Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, this morning: http://www.gridface.com/features/hieroglyphic_being.html He was kind enough to let me host an MP3 from his upcoming album as well. Cheers, Jacob
(313) Jamal Moss Sequence Manchester
I was about to send a mail out asking who was around for these 2: Toby - both? Gary - Sequence (what time do you get here tomorrow? If it's during the afternoon and you want to check record shops give me a ring - though to be honest they've now decreased in number to the point where a guide's a bit overkill!). However on the subject of tonight I'm sad to say I've just had the following message from Detroit Public Radio who were putting Jamal on: Subject: Jamal Moss - Important Development Chumps/Chumpettes... Unfortunately UK immigration has not allowed Jamal entry into the country. After waiting and speaking with immigration for three hours this morning they told me they could not let him into the country and he would be returning, at once to chicago. They could not discuss why as this is confidential information. I have later spoken with Jamal's agent who has informed me he has cancelled his whole european tour but will be rescheduling for May this year. It's not all bad news though! We've managed to catch Modern Love's Pendal Coven, on their way back from Berlin, where they played alongside Larry Heard and Maurizio/Rhythm Sound at the CLUB TRANSMEDIALE.08 festival. We're really happy to have these stalwarts of deep electronics step in at the last minute and save our proverbial bacon! They've also promised to be dropping some unreleased CD-r's for your listening pleasure phwwwar. Finally, we'd like to apologize for Jamal's absence by reducing the door fee to £5. we've also made 100 or so CD's with a fresh, free Spandex Valley mix: Cosmic Movements which i'd like to claim is our best yet! (get down early, free CD's to first 100 or so chumps). So get down, K e e p R a d i o C o n t a c t x x x I'm really gutted for the promoters. This sort of thing REALLY sucks. I'm also gutted as I was looking forward to this! I'll still go down for Pendle Coven. And hopefully there are too many amazing artists on tomorrow for immigration nazis to stop all of them Anyone in the area tonight or tomorrow hit me up.

Just had chance to listen to this. Sounds very nice, I do feel that Jamal needs taming in terms of his production values sometimes and this release proves that (from what I've heard). robin... http://www.juno.co.uk/products/246090-01.htm

In a similar vein, Has anyone else checked out the 'IAMTHATIAM' digital-only 'compilation' on Mathematics Recordings? (Available from Bleep.com and possibly elsewhere but I haven't checked.) I have 'comp' in inverted commas because although it's supposed to be a set of tracks contributed on an anonymous basis by the likes of Poindexter, Adonis and other Chicago bods, of whom Jamal Moss is something of a protégé, they do all sound uncannily like Mr Moss! Still, they're all at least good and there are some gems too. (Trivia note: by the way I think the title comes from a line in a Toots and the Maytals song, I think it's 'Sun Moon Star' but I welcome correction.) Ken

If you all are into the Steve Tang / Jamal Moss vein of material, you might like my 'etc' radio show. I've been airing after Clinically Inclined since 1999 and both of these guys (Mr Moss Mr Tang) have kindly contributed guest sets to the program. It currently airs weekly from 11pm-2am CST on WNUR in Chicago. In semi-related news, I'll be playing an electro set alongside David Siska (of Clinically Inclined) at the Rx Gallery in San Francisco on Saturday, February 3rd. It will be a SF debut for both of us. m50 http://m50.net/ At 08:52 2007/1/12, robin wrote: http://www.mathematicsrecordings.com/MathematicsRecordingsDigital.html Doesn't seem to have the file though. robin... Jurren Baars replied: to be honest, i'm starting to feel that a lot of the output by mr. moss is starting to sound alike. i think there was one defying moment in his musical development, and that was when he first heard farley jackmaster funk play 'washing machine' in reverse. not that i have a problem with that though! I was thinking the same thing last night actually. Then I thought, perhaps I should deduct a few points (as I felt like doing on my opinion of Shed before I heard the 'Red Planet EP'). But if you're still enjoying the stuff, I think giving someone a chance to expunge their backlog of already-made tracks is fair, especially if they're enjoyable, as I say. K

So. I think I'm a bit of a Jamal Moss fan on the quiet. He did a new record w/ Steve Poindexter a lil while back. Pretty harsh. Can use the drums on the B though However I have a question about it. The B side is entitled Faces Drums. Wasn't Faces Drums some Ron Hardy record? i.e. one he used to play? Pretty sure it was. I don't own an original copy though. Presume its an italian thing? Anyone know? Think it's just raw drum patterns ala Electronic Drums Virgo Rhythm Trax etc etc. So whats this then? Just a repress of that, or 'updated' versions? (not sure how you update a drum box like) Also, news just in - my mate sent me these clips from Clone. New Jamal Moss record, he's saying its proper dope, but I cant hear it! Can anyone else? this is the text from www.clone.nl: Frantic Flowers 002 - The Sun God - Relics Artifacts Jamal Moss re-invented detroit's techno-soul again.. this is the perfect balance between soulful beauty and total chaos.. Hmm. If anyone can hear it, let me know. Hmm. Jamal Moss. Heard that new Axis by him, and it's excellent. Then, after the pub Friday night me and a mate were playing a few records.
