indeed, it's not maurice fulton. seems that they changed the link. took
the info from this site: http://www.mynews.cl/news.html, the little text
there from 09.03.05 links to http://www.tokionfm.com/audio/6.mp3. but as
i said, i didn't check the links again before posting them.

i still have the mix on my hd, if you really need it, hit me off list,
i'll upload it for you.

2002-03-13 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Um, well, sure I know there was drama - you hear that on the records as
Maurice is a confessional artiste - but in a very public forum such as this
I usually respect people's private lives - unless they're Tom Cruise and
Nicole Kidman in which case they are getting ridiculous amounts of money to
compensate for speculation. I wouldn't want my affairs detailed on 313, you
know what I'm sayin'? :)

They were both cool people. I wish them the very best, it was not easy for
either of them.

The main reason Maurice left was immigration - work visa - issues.

What was all that about with the Australian immigration then? As far as I
understand, he went back ot NY intended temporarily only to discover his
girlfriend (mistakenly?) had assumed he'd been playing away from home (which
was true in one way) ... anyway, she'd destroyed a lot his records ... then
Australia refused him re-entrance and impounded his belongings including his
records ... last time I heard it was not certain that they'd be returned,
can't think why that would be. Am I right? If so why?

Last I heard (read) Maurice lived in Australia somewhere
(Adelaide?) but I
think he is often in the UK as people have mentioned seeing him dj here a
few times recently. (and Nuphonic is London based) I feel the same way
you do about his production, it's all very, very good. Esp. the Ladyvipb
LP.I also have a 12 by him on Bubble Tease, 1 track of
which is the
most funky little number I've heard in a long time.. I've been
dropping it
out constantly since I grabbed it. Lets hope there's lots more to come.

Re: [313] Maurice Fulton again

2002-03-11 Thread Cyclone Wehner
He gets a fair bit of coverage in Jockey Slut - he has a sense of humour, so
he'll dress up in women's clothing and send the whole media thing up. He's
originally from Baltimore. He's into garage (classic meaning of the term -
ie Paradise Garage eclectism).
He has worked with the Basement Boys on projects by Crystal Waters and Ultra
Nate. He's also collaborated with Jimi Tenor. More recently he contributed
to an avant garde album by vocalist Nicole Willis (Tenor's other half) -
Soul Makeover - which is great. In 1999 (?) Fulton put out his first album
Life Is Water For Gerbadaisies When They Are Dancing.
He's prolific as he records most of his stuff on an Imac notebook with a
keyboard and even lays it down on planes.
He was living in Melbourne and even started a night but then he had visa
problems and went back to NY, before that he was in London.
His music has come up before on the list, but you're right, he is great.

[313] Maurice Fulton

2002-03-04 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight
Heyall - hope you've had a good weekend. New purchase on Saturday was
Maurice Fulton's Ladyvipb Stories of a Broken Heart and Recovering which
I will HIGHLY recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in broken
beats, deep house, or jazzy techno. It's become somewhat of a sacred CD for
me already. The last number almost had me in tears - it starts of with a
balls out tribal rhythm, it really sounds like they are giving it all
they've got. then a melancholy piano piece - real simple - plays over the
top but it's in like 1/2 or 1/3 of the tempo of the rhythm. doesn't sound
right but it's really cool - and the combined frenetic energy of the drums
and the sadness of the piano made for me one of those moments that just
opens the heart.

Anyone have any web links to more of Mr. Fulton's work or any info on him.

He has a great 12 on Sound Signaturenot sure of the name or number, but
I'll dig it up later or perhaps someone else knows the details.

It could be a collaboration with Theo Parrish...can't remember.
