I have no real information on these no shows (just whats been said here) but I
do have first hand experience of booking dealing with him and he was a real
gent, his agent was a hard a** though, difficult to deal with if I remember
correctly.

I hope he sorts all this stuff out as his by far one of the best djs I ever
seen.

I really don't have an opinion on what TP is doing...but I do have a couple of
thoughts

One-as I have also had the opportunity to perform with, and talk with
Terrence...I don't find him to be a 'superstar' dj...I find him to be almost a
total square peg. To me, that doesn't matter much. As I have been following
this, I've had a couple of feelings about it. One-many people enjoy kicking
you while you're down. And, two: This music business has always been a game
played by people with honest hearts against those who would rather eat your
heart for breakfast.

My hope is that he'll tell us all the story in some public way (whether he
'makes his goal' or not). I believe it could be a great cautionary
tale-because some kid with a good ear and stars in their eyes needs to know
that this business and life have a dark side. I've lived the good times and
the bad in music, and can say with great talent comes great pain.

I refuse to trash TP publicly. I do think that on its face this issue
looks horrible for him and his 'image.' As a believer in God, it also can be
difficult for the non-secular among us to not think of Televangelists begging
for money before 'God calls me home.' I only hope that he is able to make a
resolution.

Personally-I've been homeless TWICE, lost 75% of my records, all my memorabilia
and two different hardware studio setups already...and I've never, NEVER been
able to find an agent willing to work for me. One day it may happen.

However you look at this situation-it's really quite sad and painful to watch.
If you like being uncomfortable, it's a great drama.

I'll keep my eyes on something more positive instead.

LIke I said, I have no idea what happened with Terrence, and people who are
professionals should show up when they're expected and do what they do.
Missing gigs as a DJ is really hard to live down. As an example, Paul Johnson
got a reputation as a no show, and I think that it still effects the number and
quality of bookings he gets to this day.

I just want people to know that whatever happened, TP is a human being too.
There's a tendency -- and I'm not accusing anyone on this list per se -- to
pile on when someone's down, and I couldn't see it happen to someone I know and
respect and hold my tongue.

very sad to hear about TP's personal circumstances and i wish him all the best .
i do wish though that the issue with the promoters was handled a bit better .
most promoters are actually reasonable . you do get idiots same as in any other
job but i do believe that when you give good reasons for canceling shows to
promoters and give them time to find a replacement dj and working on solutions
with them then a good way can be found in resolving issues . i work with mainly
american dj's . 1 of those dj's had to cancel a whole tour of 10 dates last
december as his mom was out of the blue , diagnosed with a terminal illness and
he just wanted to go home , understandably so . i immediately reached out to
promoters and asked the said dj to also publish a formal statement apologizing
to fans who had already purchased tickets for some of those shows . 100 % of
the promoters were very supportive . we managed to reschedule all of the shows .

i heard that 1 of the promoters involved in the TP situation went as far as the
airport and he was nowhere to be seen . they got an email that evening saying
he could not make it and they feel that they were not even afforded a valid
reason for the no show !

my biggest worry with this situation is that , this fallout will impact other
dj's - just because they happen to be american . when i started working with
dj's beginning of 2008 . i approached several known clubs in europe and as soon
as they realized that i was working with mainly american dj's some went as far
as to say that they simply are not comfortable with working with american dj's
because they come with problems . i.e. , not showing up for gigs and general
attitude problems .

i feel in the last few yrs we turned a corner

Re: (313) Terrence Parker

2014-04-30 Thread kent williams
Starting in about 1998, the promotion crew I was involved in, Rotation
(Iowa City) brought Terrence Parker to play shows in Iowa City. We brought
him in at least 5 times. Since then, other Iowa City promoters brought him
4 or 5 more times. The last time he played here was IIRC 2012.

Throughout that period, TP was the gold standard of 'name' DJs coming
through -- he always showed up, he always drew enough of a crowd to more
than pay his guarantee and expenses. Furthermore, he was a sincere,
lovable guy, who would stand around for an hour in the rain after everyone
got booted out of the club to talk to fans.

He's always been a friend to me personally. To the extent that I am a
judge of character, I've always thought he was honest, sincere, and 100% on
the level. Throughout his career, he's tried a lot of different things to
try and make a living and not all of them are successful. He moved to Las
Vegas and worked as the music director of an evangelical church; he's tried
a lot of different record labels and ways of communicating.

To some extent you could say Terrence was almost corny -- the intros to his
Mix CDs with the Warner Brothers cartoon samples; calling himself DJ
Extraordinaire. But anyone who sees him play know that he's one of the
real people, a guy with a great ear for house music, great DJ skills, and
the ability to read a crowd and make them feel fantastic.

I have no idea what the deal is with his current difficulties. I know that
a lot has happened in his personal life -- he has declared bankruptcy, lost
his home, gotten divorced. That last has to have wounded him the worst --
he was NOT a player, and loved and respected his wife deeply, and I'm sure
still does.

I have not contributed to his DJ fund, primarily because after putting two
kids through college and one through graduate school, I'm broke as a joke.
I also do not think that he will raise the kind of money he's looking for.
But I have no doubt he is trying to dig himself out of a deep hole and
restore his reputation.

Whatever the reasons for his difficulties I believe in Terrence's talent,
character, and good will. I have no doubt this whole mess of the last two
years in his life have been devastating and deeply humiliating for him.
I'm not sure the IndieGoGo thing will work but I know why TP is trying it:
He really believes in the goodness of people, and is hoping his fans can
get him back into a better position so he can do what he's best at.

When someone is down, they find out who their friends are. The music
business is harsh, and real friends are rare. If you are a friend to TP,
it's important for you to let him know that, even if you can't help him out
financially.

The electro-ish remix side of this is mad hot, and the vocal track is
pretty nice too. I assume that TP did all the mixes since no one else
is credited.

Does anyone know a domestic internet record store that is carrying this?

Re: (313) Terrence Parker in UK on Friday

2004-06-10 Thread robin

Over the Movement weekend some part of his stuff was like that but a lot
of it was more on the vocal house end of things and i guess stuff that
would be described as gospel house.

the technique on that mix is a little taster for what he's actually
like...compared to the stuff i saw him pull off the mixing on the mix is
quite conservative (!!)

a lot has been made of TP's spiritual leanings and how that might limit
his playing but i can honestly say as someone who isn't a Christian that
it doesn't get in the way of his music. And if he's feeling it like
that then that's just the way he feels it. Simple as that.

Hello 313 Peepz,

Just wondered whether any of you could help me out with some Terrence
Parker / Intangible info. I've just got
turned onto a couple of his records which I love (Tribute
e.p and Love Got Me High). Can anyone recommend anything
else that he released on Intangible or other labels that's in the same
league as these 2 ?

Also if there's anything released by other artists on Intangible which are
'must-haves' then please let me know
about these as well.

I've been into Detroit stuff for years but am only catching onto his stuff
now for some reason. He never seemed to get the publicity that the other
Detroit artists received in Europe which strikes me as odd, seeing that his
stuff is up there with the best of them.

Thanks - Any help appreciated.

2002-09-13 Thread Wibo Lammerts
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Fri Sep 13, 2002 2:49 am
Subject: NEWS: TP's DJing career will soon be coming to a close!

Greetings of peace everyone!

Yes! It is true! I will soon retire from touring and having a DJ residency.
This is not a joke! This is not a mistake. After more than 20 years on the
WHEELS OF STEEL, my DJing career is coming to a close.

I've been moving towards making this decision over the past 2 years. Now, I
am in a place in my life where my relationship with GOD, my lovely wife, my
gorgeous daughter, handsome newborn son, family and close friends, command
that I pay attention to my own growth, development, and maturity. I imagine
that I'll officially retire from DJing in 2003.

Over the past 7 years, I've traveled all over the world, DJing in more than
100 cities.
In those 7 years, I've averaged travel for a minimum of 45 weekends out of a
52 weekend year. That's a lot of time away from my family.

On July 21st of this year, I was baptized in Jesus name, and received the
precious gift of the Holy Ghost. On that day, the old TP died, and a new TP
was born. Those who know me, know that I've been on this path of
righteousness for quite sometime.
I stopped smoking 12 years ago. I stopped drinking 2 years ago. I stopped
cursing, swearing, and using GOD's name in vein 5 years ago. So this is
nothing new. I've been religious most of my life. But now, GOD is leading me
in a different direction. I plan to work heavily in the BUSINESS side of the
music industry. I hope my contributions will help make a positive impact in
the music industry. I'm not sure exactly how GOD plans to use me, and I am
more uncertain of the new challenges I will soon face. But I know that
according to Proverbs 3:5-6, I'll be just fine because I can do all things
through Christ Jesus.

This is not an attempt to force my religious beliefs on anyone. GOD's love
doesn't flow like that. Instead, my purpose here is to share with you the
miracle in my life, and the changes that shall be proven because of it.

I'm not going to quit DJing tomorrow. I still plan to honor my commitments
to DJ upcoming gigs in Iowa (USA), Germany, Japan, and other upcoming dates.
I have a request to do a 30 city tour in 2003 with the man who released the
first ever house record - Mr. Jesse Saunders! I'm also hoping to do a SPREAD
LOVE DJ Tour with DJ Booming B in Germany in 2003. I just wanted to put all
of you on notice so it wont be a surprise to those who truly care about me,
my music, and my endeavors. So if you see I'm coming to your city or town,
you better make certain you're there. If not, you might miss my final DJing
performance in your area.

If the right opportunity to DJ on the radio comes along, I might strongly
consider this along with having my mixes featured on the internet. But I am
just about done with touring as a DJ, or having a residency in any club.

This brings me to my next announcement . . . . . I will spin for another 2
weeks at Tonic on Wednesdays, and then I will end my residency there. The
staff, and everyone there has been great!

The state of music in general has turned towards the worst! Artist and
producers are releasing horrible records, DJs who can barely spin, or who
have a limited knowledge and/or respect for music are getting paid
enormously crazy amounts of money to DJ. And the masses of the people follow
and worship them as if they were GOD. Back in the day, you could listen to
the radio and hear songs about love and compassion. Now all day, everyday,
major radio plays sex theme music that 3 and 4 year babies know all the
lyrics and sexual dance steps to. The club/party scene is ruled by drugs.
Very few people truly care about the music anymore. VERY SAD!

I'm not perfect, but I've always tried to be positive. So my advice to all
of the current and future aspiring DJs, please be mindful of the music you
play. To the producers and recording artists, be mindful of the music you
make. Those youthful in mind, body, spirit, and maturity are watching you!
Don't let money be your motivation!

DJing has been, and will always be part of me. If I never spin at another
club or party again, I'll still go into my basement, and make a hot mix CD!
Music was once my life! Now, although I will always love music, GOD is my
life! The old TP had his priorities mixed up. My priorities now are in
order:

1. GOD
2. my family
3. my career

(If your HOUSE is not in order, you may want to think about it.)

I don't know if I'll continue to make mix CDs. That's something I am praying
about. When GOD lays the answer on my heart, I'll let you know.

I want to thank all of my fans and friends throughout the world who've
supported my music and my DJing throughout the years. I love you all! THANK
YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL THE MANY YEARS OF LOVE POSITIVE VIBES!

You can see my current DJing schedule at TPMusic.net

Hey,
Have you ever thought of putting together a box set of your fav mixes?
There just SO much to pick from on your mix list. (about $1,200 for every mix)
A friend of mine, Amy Ricketts has most of them...I just can't remember which
are deep and which are aren't. I remember there's even one that sounds almost
like salsa! ;)

Thanks,

Over the past 7 years, I've traveled all over the world, DJing in more than
100 cities.
In those 7 years, I've averaged travel for a minimum of 45 weekends out of
a
52 weekend year.

But now, GOD is leading
me
in a different direction. I plan to work heavily in the BUSINESS side of
the
music industry.

I still plan to honor my commitments
to DJ upcoming gigs in Iowa (USA), Germany, Japan, and other upcoming
dates.
I have a request to do a 30 city tour in 2003 with the man who released the
first ever house record - Mr. Jesse Saunders! I'm also hoping to do a
SPREAD

And the masses of the people
follow
and worship them as if they were GOD. Back in the day, you

There are honest people in the music industry, you just have to keep
one hand on your wallet and have a good lawyer.

There are a lot of places TP can express himself and make a living that
don't involve the things about club culture that trouble him. If you're
really curious about his plans send him e-mail...

I have total respect for the club DJs who have survived and done
their work with integrity over the years. TP certainly deserves
recognition for that.

Thanks to Kent for putting it exactly right.

I really feel like if you don't understand the connection between
Saturday night and Sunday morning, you can't understand where house
music really comes from.

So TP's decision makes entire sense, and I appreciate the way he
presented it. And if you didn't see this coming, listen to one of
his truly great records, The Question, one more time.

More than any other DJ I can think of, TP uses turntables as a musical
instrument. A lot of people can rock doubles and scratch, but with TP
it's just building the vibe by any means necessary. If you like house
music with funk, soul, and beauty, be there, or live to regret it.

JOINT CHIEFS (DB + MCs)
DJ Vince Woolums(BrothasSistas IC)
joined by Don Juan and Automatic (Bad Fathers, formerly The Committee)
in a hip hop/drum bass soundclash.

RYAN BURNS(BrothasSistas IC)
Techno House. Not only does Ryan have the skills, he's a rabid collector
of those rare, amazing records that make every set special.

This is an ALL AGES Show, doors open around 9PM. There will be top notch
music 9:30 to 2AM, so don't show up late frontin like you had more important
things to do.

(313) Terrence Parker DJ schedule

2000-02-25 Thread Kent williams
Someone asked about whether Terrence Parker will be playing (somewhere
on the west coast? Don't remember).

The easiest thing to do is e-mail him at [EMAIL PROTECTED] asking for
his current schedule. He maintains a mailing list that you can join
as well. This will entitle you to weekly entertaining updates from
the mind of TP, along with current scheduling info.

Not to minimize the skills of other Detroit DJs at all, but a TP DJ set
is a unique experience, and since he started coming to Iowa City, he's
developed a real following of rabid fans. We always have a jam packed,
hands in the air, sweat running down the walls, stomping good time.

(313) Terrence Parker super special on Cognition :)

1999-09-15 Thread Andrew Duke
Detroit's Terrence Parker is playing here in
Halifax this Saturday and Cognition
is the official URL for his visit :)
due to popular demand, I've just
put up the 9/9/99 interview with
Terrence Parker in full in RA (almost
an hour of TP speaking from the heart).
While the text feature written
up from this interview gets into a couple
of things, this RA interview gets into
plenty: inspired by the Latin Rascals
to get into tape editing in 1979, breakdancing
on the circuit and getting into DJing
in 1981, playing his first parties in 1982,
The Question blowing up in 1993, playing
out in Germany almost every weekend,
the German music scene, house and techno,
why he DJs the way he does, his feeling
on drugs in our scene, and plenty more.
In total the Terrence Parker special
on Cognition (http://techno.ca/cognition)
now includes:
--1 text feature (525 w :))
--2 RA features (the interview from show
580 and the recent interview done 9/9/99)
--1 TP DJ mix (70 minutes of turntable madness!)
--plenty of new and classic Parker material on
show 580
if you're interested in checking this out, please
do so asap as I can't keep up all that RA for
more than a week. Thanks. Andrew Duke :)

yesterday and is different than the interview
on Andrew Duke's In The Mix show 580.
A longer extended version/remix of the
9 sept 99 interview will be posted (2000 w
or so--had 2 one hour interviews to work
with with lots of important stuff transcribed!)
in place of the 450 w edit when I have
a chance to tweak/tighten the longer version.
Thanks. Andrew Duke :) ps yes, this is a tad
halifax related, but tp talks about djing,
