but no. this time its different.

this is infact a GBOT with a 'FRO.

a g-bot is a robot version of g-unit.

so its like a rapper crossed with a robot, with an afro with frogslegs.

I was thinking along the same lines - pick the most popular tune you could
find - except I defected and started looking at people like Tiesto and
Sasha Digweed.
Seems although gobs and gobs of people just gush about them, not too many
own viny copies of their records (or do CDs count?). I take this as a
positive sign.
Either that or the massive masses haven't discovered Discogs yet. I take
this as a positive sign too.

Yeah I've had similar strange reasons for rejection of comments from
discogs. Yet at the same time I've seen the most anodyne, wierd (i.e. not
particularly reflective of the music) or sometimes just plain idiot comments
on there!

I have had some comments passed - but again, the reasons why they went and
others didn't isn't altogether clear. At the v least it's inconsistent.

The loose 'peer review' system on comments appears to be too loose, 'cause
all to often the moderators seem to have vested interests.

i don't have any figures but i think there's plenty of errors, and
the mods constantly tell to look for more information from the net even
when pointed out that google or altavista can't find anything when
searched with record name or label and telling me wrong facts about
records i own. not forgetting that there's just some mods whote no for
release when it is representing a genre they don't like.

the problem lies of course in that fact that there simply isn't any one
person who would know everything about every record ever released, or
even reasonably sized group of people who would be able to do that; and
we must remember that the net is full of wrong information otherwise;
if person x submits a record he has in his hands, with correct information
and some mod finds a netsite that has some false information regarding
that record, and the mod doesn't know anything else about that record,
he is likely to vote no for it, without knowing his information is
false. then again, the submitters constantly submit wrong information,
for example records that they don't own but they just copy/paste
the info from a website. (this is generally not accepted but it isn't
always obvious).

some of the errors in the db will get corrected over time, some will
not.

how many other releases they messed up. maybe that cosmic light force
and

i don't have any figures but i think there's plenty of errors, and
the mods constantly tell to look for more information from the net even
when pointed out that google or altavista can't find anything when
searched with record name or label and telling me wrong facts about
records i own. not forgetting that there's just some mods whote no for
release when it is representing a genre they don't like.

the problem lies of course in that fact that there simply isn't any one
person who would know everything about every record ever released, or
even reasonably sized group of people who would be able to do that; and
 we must remember that the net is full of wrong information otherwise;
if person x submits a record he has in his hands, with correct information
and some mod finds a netsite that has some false information regarding
that record, and the mod doesn't know anything else about that record,
he is likely to vote no for it, without knowing his information is
false. then again, the submitters constantly submit wrong information,
for example records that they don't own but they just copy/paste
the info from a website. (this is generally not accepted but it isn't
 always obvious).

some of the errors in the db will get corrected over time, some will
 not.

perhaps you should not say when I played to a crowd, and you should
instead say when played to a crowd of it was accepted openly.

I can see the line that they don't want to cross. If they allowed reviews
like that, they'd have every bedroom dj in teh world sliding in quips
about how good a record is when THEY play it, etc. If it's really not
about the fact that you played it, then you'll have no problem changing
the words around to make it generic. :D

I've had mune up there for a few years now...there is a way to go there and
make your collection private so that no one else can see it. That way, no
one will ask you to sell it. It does happen all the time now, but I have
scored some real deals out of there...

If you have a huge problem with it let me know...I am a moderator and I will
bring it up in the mod forum to see if maybe something else can be done
about it.

I suppose if you already know that then it might get annoying. And the

get harder...

And it acts as a sort of DIY group effort to catalogue the music we
like

-
especially for those labels that are either no longer in existence,
don't
have websites, or don't list their discogs.

I use it for this reason and the below mentioned

it's a very effective way of keeping track of your collection,
specifically all the pertinent little details

I do have a music library catalogue on my computer but my computer
isn't
working at the moment and I thought - what if something was to happen
to

my
computer and I couldn't retrieve a list of what I had or in case of
some

sort of damage to my collection (fire, robbery, etc. - touch wood)?
Ah-ha! www.discogs.com

it also helps me to figure out do I have such and such record
already?

since I have an ever expanding collection. I have at times bought a
second
copy of something I already own because I couldn't remember or because
the
label was slightly different (one was a promo copy, a white label,
etc.)

Wondering why would one want to put up a list of all the records in

I've started building my collection on discogs and just got an email from
someone wanting to buy one of my records - is this common?
None of my records on there are for sale, I just use the website as a
back-up to my library database I have at home.

Yeah, that happened to me for the first time a couple days ago as well.
