(313) italoboyz - victor cassanova (mothership records)
Mothership transmission #1… Ricardo Villalobos says it best: “Viktor Casanova is a record with a huge surprises effect. I play it since I got it from the guys 3 month ago and every time I get the same reactions…It has been a while, since I had a track which caused that much attention on the dance floor. It happens not that often, that every single time I play a track, lots of people ask me what it is. People even ask, if it’s me who puts the opera singer sample over the record…Viktor Casanova is the best example, that the only really important thing about a good track is the idea behind it, nothing more and nothing less.Add two very sexy minimal-tech remixes by Samim and Lee Curtiss and you have a truly amazing record. mothership is the new project from Claude VonStroke. The concept for the label is to create a deeper more experimental techno based sound than the tech-funk sound of his other label, dirtybird. A large percentage of the proceeds from mothership will go to a school in downtown Detroit that teaches and enables children to learn how to make music (yes, even electronic music!) We are very excited to be able to give something back to the community that helped shape and define our music.Enjoy. http://www.wordandsound.de/article/48079 discuss?

Sounds like the rest of the glitch stuff, with added UR wannabe and Ricardo Villalobos hype. Also, nice to see Claude VonStroke on the minimal hypetrain On 6/19/07, Ramon Crespo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Mothership transmission #1… Ricardo Villalobos says it best: Viktor Casanova is a record with a huge surprises effect. I dunno. I've not heard it. Not so interested in Claude von Stroke though. Hope it at least *sounds like a Detroit techno or house record! I wonder which school will receive this 'large percentage' of the proceeds? -Original Message- From: Thomas D. I wonder which school will receive this 'large percentage' of the proceeds? Just a guess - isn't there a Max Fisher school of that sort? jeff
Re: (313) italoboyz - victor cassanova (mothership records)
Hope it at least *sounds like a Detroit techno or house record! Especially considering we're facing a new wave of minimal (not mnml) house records coming out of Detroit. I mean people like Omar S, Keith Worthy, DJ Jus Ed, Patrice Scott and obviously Theo Parrish. There's a few related artists (not Detroit based) putting material out at the mo like KSoul, Ra.H, DJ Qu and Lerosa. I'm well excited by all this stuff currently. robin...

I'm well excited by all this stuff currently. yeah, lots of different stuff out there is killing it IMO. malik pittman played a white label of unirhythm 002 at the end of the 3 chairs set at the festival, he said it should be coming out very soon. its pretty ridiculous as well! tom

I wonder which school will receive this 'large percentage' of the proceeds? id be very interested to hear that as well. i think its awesome when people do stuff for their local communities. however, this feels pretty disingenuous to me as none of the artists live in detroit. mr vonstroke supposedly lived there (though you certainly cant hear that from his sounds, where was he from? the city or the burbs?), but that didnt stop him from moving away to greener pastures. maybe im biased because i think his music is complete trash, but the dood seems like an opportunistic joker who is trying to front on detroit music and i find it pretty offensive. tmo

that new lerosa on real soon is very nice, a different spin on that detroit-esque house sound. The previous release on Real Soon by Juju Jordash is also another take on that sound. A hot label currently, for sure. I wasn't taken by the samples of that Victor Casanova record, but Claude Von Stroke has made some tracks I really like. Beware the Bird sticks with me, and makes me happy when I hear it, and though it has a jokey title, the music is serious. And the Whistler is kind of a gimmick track that people will get sick of if it's played too much, but I like it on its own terms. And the proof is in the playing out IMHO. CvS gets a visceral reaction from a dancefloor. People who want to dance hear what they like. Whether we'll be talking about it in a hundred years, well, _I_ won't be talking about anything in a hundred years, so for me it's right now that matters. On 6/19/07, Thomas D.
