I wonder which version patrick russell plays on the mixtape he did on
matts

show?
there is a 'remix'of 4 minutes or so, and an original of 2 and a half.
anyone know?

well on that mixtape he plays the track for longer than 2:45 with no
obvious sign that he plays two copies. i'd guess he uses the version
on that Lektroluv Lektrokuted compilation

yes that was the one he had..

Dr. Attaman is the only person i know with an original, and unless BMG
found an original, i'd predict that's where he got a clean copy to do
his secret mixes and fixes edit from. :) PS -- if anyone in Ann
Arbor area needs a doctor that is also a killer DJ of dance music
obscurities, Dr. Attaman will heal your body and soul, look him up at U
of M medical center!

i've also seen him lurking round the DJ History forums too, hopefully
doing research UNrelated to his medical practice.

like if you listen to the first minute or two, all the DNA of the funk
of the track is right there. the little disco/funky guitar with a
little delay on it, then the horn blasts, just soaked in more reverb
would be so great... like kind of a studio one dub kind of feell. then
bring in the big round bassline... oh yeah, add some claps.. maybe a

(313) new record observations

2005-02-24 Thread alex . bond
In a bid to cheer myself up, went to the record shop at lunch to save a few
items ahead of payday tomorrow.

Here's what I listened to:

Recloose - Dust - Peacefrog : Really like it!! Don't think its gonna be
everyones bag, danny doesn't like it. I do though, and shall play it down
blackheartdisco to wind him up. Been a while since I had a nice vocal
record I liked alot, col! Don't like the saxes that much, but can deffo
live with them.

Shed - Cityslicker - Soloaction : abstract electronics, like it. saved one.
pretty disjointed and out there, but, fresh I think.

Matthew Jonson - new one, cant remember title or anything, one track, 'live
edit' on the flip. didnt catch my ears immediately, but will give it
another whirl in a few days.

Analord 3 4 - Rephlex : Saved a copy of number 3, had a nice plinky
plonky melodic thing on that I liked.

jesus, I've forgotten the rest. it was only about 15 mins ago too. not
good. anyone else got owt?

alex

from the clips i've heard (yet to test the vinyl) not really my thing
either. i can see why people might like it tho.

a few things came my way yesterday:

Tyree Cooper - SoulSurvival vol.7
Specifically the track called 'Love' on this had me groovin around the
housetough chicago rhythms, filtered piano and 303(low in the mix,
classy) and Tyree wiffling over the top of it all about love (if you
like mike dunn's 'god made me phunky' then you'll like this). fantastic!

Marco Passarani - Criticise
The vocal is a bit new order, which i like. some might not. over an
old-schooly but not backing. a winner in my book.

Basic Bastard - Cruising/Space Rider
JT's fault this one for exposing me to Space Rider. Deep as you like
detroit techno, melancholic bassline and pianos. Winter music. Brill.

and that's all i got around to listening to as I took our Charlie
out for a meal (priorities :) )

(also got those two Secret Mixes and Fixes (capatazz!), DJ S2 (crisp
electro), two new Rick Wades, two more Voorn things on Ignitor)

oh and as Arne Weinberg was mentioned before, that track he did on the
Frantic Flowers 001 12 is very nice indeed. really melodic (in an AFX
kinda way) but with a 313 tech leaning. erm tip! :)

I need that velodrome track big time.
I note that the original track is only 2 and a half minutes long, so it
needs an edit.
I refuse to buy someone elses edit though. I'm the d.i.y kid these days.

I wonder which version patrick russell plays on the mixtape he did on matts
show?

there is a 'remix'of 4 minutes or so, and an original of 2 and a half.
anyone know?

well on that mixtape he plays the track for longer than 2:45 with no
obvious sign that he plays two copies. i'd guess he uses the version on
that Lektroluv Lektrokuted compilation (or off the original 12 where
they got that mix from...)

and if anyone hasn't heard that mix try and get a copy, it's brilliant.

wow. man, just check the record out, its the best soulful vocal
tune not made by kenny dixon that ive heard in a couple years. its
just ridiculous. when the beat changes up like 2/3 of the way
through it its a special moment. ive had this song in my head for
days and i havent listened to it since monday! as of right now i
cant imagine what else will have to come out this year to knock it
out of my year end top 10.

duly noted Tom. i did say that i'll dismiss only when i've had a proper
listen to the vinyl rather than just clips :)

You know what tom, I haven't got my copy yet, (tomorrow) but I think I'm
almost going to have to agree with you. dont agree with the kenny dixon and
years bit, but hey. the moment the needle hit the record, I just thought,
ahhh, lovely jubbly.

does it remind you of prince at all? or is that me being a crack head?

(i only flicked thru in the shop in my defence)

Hmm, not sure. That'd be sweet if the first mix I heard did eventually
get released since I like it more than the mix on this current white
label (even though I still think its awesome).

the beat certainly could be prince-ish, the vocals not quite so.
too deep for prince, but its got that funk and that soul. its just
a great great record. as much as you went on about that carl
craig, im gonna go on about this recloose ; P
