Still morning for me ... only a few popped into the head straight away: Rhythim is Rhythim - The Beginning (at the 2'30 mark) BFC - Chicken Noodle Soup mu-Ziq - Ethereal Murmurings Reload - Event Horizon (heck, most of A Collection Of Short Stories) Joy Division - Atmosphere, Dead Souls, The Only Mistake, etc. ad infinitum :) (Oops ... got a bit OT there :) ) Speaking of OT ... the www.Ready.GOV parody spoof thread on the Internet Infidels Discussion Board is the funniest thing I've read in a long time ... http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.php?s=92304c943bbed7527ec48bffbf1d582ethrea did=46223perpage=25pagenumber=1 Grab sides before reading. - Greg

RE: (313) techno tunes that do it (make your hair stand on end)
Loads of techno tunes do it for me - too much to mention! But at the moment the main ones that do it, aside from the obvious contenders, are: Fix - Flash (especially the part about halfway through when the stuttered synth parts come in) Dimension 5 - Computer Groove (the arrival of the strings is quite a moment) Orlando Voorn - Boomerang (intense on so many different levels) The Deacon - Soul Saver (sampling Al Green eh??) A Scorpion's Dream - Aqua Dance Idol Making - Un, Deux, Trois (ridiculously mechanistic funk) Black Dog Productions - Otaku (from their EP on Rising High) Quadrant - Quadrant Dub (kind of epitomises the BC sound for me) Claude Young - Second Experience (from the first Claude/Shake EP on Frictional - doesn't do much for the first 90 seconds or so, and then... we have lift-off!) 'Die Kosmischen Kuriere' While we're on this subject, I have an old Manuel Gottsching LP with this all over it and I was wondering the connection between that track and this LP (they must have seen it), there's no obvious samples or anything. Did Manuel Gottsching reguarly call himself the 'Cosmic Courier' or was it just this one LP. Anyone know? 3MB = fehlmann/von oswald, right? Same with Schizophrenia? Speaking of, did that 'Schizophrenia' track appear anywhere else before the Tresor 3 compilation? Brilliant track, sounds so great at a decent volume when those bass gurgles finally come in under the fluttering highs. peace Matt MacQueen

It's great to see everyone's picks . . . reminds me of how many holes I've still got in my collection. Here are my spine tinglers: Stacey Pullen Vertigo (what's he been up to lately?) Drexciya Aquaticism (that vocal . . . spooky) Manuel Gottsching e2-e4 (when the guitar finally comes in after 35 minutes) Laurent Garnier Greed (Fabrice Lig remix) Savvas Ysatis Highrise (it's so crisp, and doesn't suffer from the sterility present in much of what gets called deep tech-house) Basic Channel Radiance III (edit) (spending a lot of time in the barren expanses of the American West, one acquires an appreciable awareness of their position on a planetary scale. For me, Basic Channel was always the perfect musical accompaniment for that feeling of isolation and and distant grandeur) And it's not really techno, but there's an old track (mid-70s) done by an academic electronic musican named Laurie Spiegel . . . Appalachian Grove I think it's called . . . it's really gorgeous. Definitely the inspiration for the layered sine wave melody I wrote for hold: http://www.bprince.com/BrianPrinceHoldPreview.mp3 Here's her web page: http://retiary.org/ls/index.html - Brian balistic Prince http://www.bprince.com - art and techno Strokes of Defiance EP . . . soon.
